Coming off a second half win Saturday with Kansas, which was my first posted Special Second Half Play since I began posting these. Tonight St. Marys plays Gonzaga for the WCC Championship on a neutral court in Las Vegas. I live near St. Marys and have followed them closely. Here are a couple of good reasons to play St. Marys.
Gonzaga is not as good away from their home court. (Well, took a lot of brains to figure this out.)
St. Marys was up by 6 points at Gonzaga, when Mills broke a bone in his hand three minutes before halftime. From that point on, without Mills, St. Marys was outscored by 13 points and lost the game by 7 points. Had Mills not been hurt, do you think St. Marys would lose the second half by 13 points. Obviously I don't think so and other than missing most of his early shots last night, Mills had his speed back and looked as good as ever.
Gonzaga beat St. Marys by just 2 at Moraga before Mills was hurt. 7.5 seems too high for a team that lost the first half to St. Marys at home and won by just 2 points at St. Marys.
St. Marys, after figuring out how to compensate for the loss of Mills closed their conference play on a 5-0 run. Do not overlook Simpson and Samhan, great rebounders and both had a double/double last night.
Unofficially, I'm putting a little on the Money Line at +270, in addition to my posted play. I hate saying one team is going to cover because they need the win more than the other team, but tonight, Gonzaga is only playing for tourney seed while St. Marys is playing for much more.
I'm surprised the line seems stuck at Gonzaga -7.5. I'm looking for it to drop a half to full point before game time but for now you are getting a lot of points if you............................
PLAY ST. MARYS PLUS 7.5 POINTS.
Nothing wrong with making a small unofficial play on St. Marys on the Money Line at +270. Game is on ESPN at Midnight EDT/9 PM PDT.
