4 Units on Boise State O 54 -110
4* SELECTION: BOISE ST/BYU OVER With Matt Berry back for BYU they threw the ball 44 times against the Rebels last week. This team has got to throw to be successful and tonight will be no different. Boise also relies on the pass as they hit the 40 attempt mark on a regular basis so despite the cold weather tonight this one should soar above the total. BYU has got a lot to prove after their drubbing by Colorado St. in their last home game and with a big point outburst against the Broncos tonight they could make a bleak season a little easier to swallow.
5 Units on BYU +7 -110
5* SELECTION: BYU The Cougars have not looked good at times this year that is a given. Boise St. on the other hand has gotten fat and unloaded on pushovers like Tulsa, SMU and San Jose St, all in recent weeks. The Broncos schedule has been a joke this season but give them credit, they’ve made the most of a good thing. BYU has played a tough, solid schedule and for the most part they’ve done so without their leader Matt Berry. Berry was 31 of 44 for 274 yards and a pair of TD’s in the Cougars win at UNLV last week. Boise St. scored the most points in school history last Saturday against Jose and the last time the Cougars were in Provo they gave up the most home points in school history in their 58-13 loss against Colorado St. The Cougars win against GT in Week 1 looks pretty damn impressive at this point and tonight they look to prove to the BCS that Boise St. is indeed a pretender and not worthy of National recognition. Granted, BYU has gotten drilled in games but lets face it, they were against USC and the Rams. They lost a close one against Stanford and although the scoreboard didn’t show it against Air Force, they hung in yardage-wise with the Falcons. Boise has played only one legitimate road game and that was a loss at Oregon St. Believe me, Gary Crowton will be playing up the fact that this team from the lowly WAC is coming into their house laying a TD
5 Units on Texas A&M -11 -110
5* SELECTION: TEXAS A&M (2003 NCAA Football Game of the Year) KANSAS lost starting QB Whittemore last week and was soundly destroyed by Kansas State 42-6. When Whittemore went down last season the Jayhawks were 0-4 losing by an average of 40 PPG. Backup QB Nielsen appeared to be effective hitting 8 of 12 but at closer look, it was for a paltry 33 yards or just over 4 yards per pass. That will not cut it in Division 1 football! In fact, KU could not accumulate 100 yards through the air, nor on the ground! Meanwhile, the Aggies have played a brutal schedule and have dropped 5 straight to quality opponents (Pitt, V-Tech, T-Tech, Nebraska, and Oklahoma St). The one game where they were able to take out frustrations was vs. Baylor and the Aggies did just that by a score of 73-10. This week they find themselves in a similar 'VENT' situation vs. a Kansas team fading fast. The Jayhawks lone feather in their cap was a sound victory over Mizzou in Lawrence. Since then, they gave up 50 points to a bad Colorado squad, fought for their life vs. a HORRIBLE Baylor club, and were pile-driven by in-state rival Kansas St last week. KU has plummeted to #87 in rushing Defense allowing 4.5 YPC and they are falling fast in pass efficiency as well as they now allow over 61% completions without playing very many pass oriented offenses. The Hawks are allowing teams to roll up 500 YPG on the road with that total skyrocketing to more than 550 on grass. This Aggies team is well balanced, especially at home, rushing for 241 YPG and throwing for 210 at Kyle Field. QB Reggie McNeal should be able to take advantage of the Kansas pass coverage. A&M lost a huge weapon when WR Jamaar Taylor went down against Nebraska but McNeal still has Terrence Murphy (15 YPC) and Tim Van Zant to hook up with. They are led on the ground by Courtney Lewis who is running for nearly 100 YPG and has scored 10 TD. This is actually the best price that A&M has seen in 4 years in this series (due in large part to their performance against the aforementioned powerhouses). The results have been pretty much the same with the Aggies winning 3 straight against Kansas. Last year A&M went into Memorial Stadium in Lawrence and soundly whipped the Hawks 47-22 laying 23 points. Kansas covered the previous 2 meetings getting a ton of points. The walls are crumbling fast for Fat Bastard look-alike Mark Mangino and now they lose their very talented QB Whittemore! The ass-kicking buffet is now open for the Kyle Field Jar-heads and Fried Jayhawk is on the menu! Ladies and Gentlemen, I proudly release my ***2003 COLLEGE GAME OF THE YEAR ON THE TEXAS A&M AGGIES***
NBA Basketball
3 Units on Phoenix Suns -9½ -110
3* SELECTION: PHOENIX LeBron James scored 25 points in his debut last night to lead the way for what should be a common line this year for Cleveland; James scores and the Cavs lose. Now the rookie gets to see how travel is in the pros as they left Sacramento for Phoenix last night. Ah the glamour of the NBA. The Suns lost a tough one 2 nights ago in SA and make their home floor debut tonight. Marion & Marbury led the way for the Suns against the Spurs and tonight I’ve got a feeling Stoudemire will get into the act in a big way. The Cavs are young and with the back-to-back nights factored in we will lay the points.
3 Units on Orlando Magic -4 -110
3* SELECTION: ORLANDO Both teams played tough ones last night as the Hornets let the Hawks in the back door and pulled one out in OT. Darrell Armstrong led the way with 18 points as NO is without Mashburn and Alexander tonight in Disney. It was an OT victory in MSG last night for the Magic as Tracy McGrady got off to a slow start but scored half of his 26 points in the 4th quarter and OT to pull out the win. They play the shorthanded Hornets on the home floor tonight as they make their debut in front of the friendly crowd.
5 Units on Houston Rockets U 179½ -110
5* SELECTION: DEN/HOU UNDER Jeff Van Gundy makes his debut tonight as head-man for the Rockets against a Denver team that beat SA last night with the Spurs playing in the altitude after a tough one against Phoenix the night before. The Rockets have already taken notice to Van Gundy’s more strict tone than they were used to under Rudy and we all know how NBA players respond to that. The Rockets are also dealing with the Eddie Griffin fiasco as the 3rd year former SH Pirate has checked himself into a local hospital for undisclosed reasons. Houston police are also investigating allegations made that Griffin struck a woman and shot at her. Nice. Carmelo Anthony was 4 for 15 from the floor last night in his pro debut and is in mid-season form as far as complaining about officiating. 80 points is about all we see either team mustering up tonight as both teams will be emphasizing defense.

Even though I had Boise last night, it would appear to me that EF Hutton/Phil Steele/Northcoast better start going to more of and paying more attention to those spring scrimmages of teams like Boise and BYU in order to prevent more the disastrous picks like BYU last night.
Then again, since Phil has been hawking NEXT year's PowerSweep Newsletter all week, he may not have time for such "trivial" endeavors as to figuring out how to pick a winner in college football.
