          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pick 'n' Roll: Monday's best NBA bets
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cleveland Cavaliers at Miami Heat (+3.5, 186.5)

Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade is coming off arguably the best week of his NBA career. For the Heat to be successful over the next week, he might need to play even better.

In a matchup featuring the league's top two scorers, Wade looks to continue his surge Monday night when Miami opens a daunting portion of its schedule against LeBron James and the Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland Cavaliers.

A year after missing 31 games due to injuries, a healthy Wade has led the Heat (31-27) to the fifth-best record in the East. He is averaging a league-high 29.0 points - 0.7 more than James - and virtually carried his team on his back this past week, scoring or assisting on 59 percent of Miami's baskets in four games.

Wade scored a career-high 50 points in a loss to Orlando on Feb. 22, and followed that two days later with a 31-point, 16-assist effort in a win over Detroit. He had 21 points and 10 assists in a loss to Atlanta on Thursday, one night before a gutsy performance in a 120-115 win at New York.

Against the Knicks on Friday, Wade scored 46 points - 24 of them in the fourth quarter and 15 coming in a dramatic 19-0 spurt that erased a 15-point deficit in the final nine minutes. In addition to all the scoring, the five-time All-Star added 10 assists, eight rebounds, four steals and three blocks.

"MVP,'' Heat rookie Michael Beasley said. "That's all I can say."

          Pick: Miami +3.5

Dallas Mavericks at Oklahoma City Thunder (+5, 202.5)

The Dallas Mavericks kept winning even when top reserve Jason Terry was hampered by an injury. It would be unrealistic to expect sustained success out of the Oklahoma City Thunder without star forward Kevin Durant.

These teams meet for the second time in four nights Monday, when Terry and the surging Mavericks face a Thunder team that may be without Durant for the second straight contest.

Terry - Dallas' second-leading scorer with 19.7 points per game - broke a bone in his non-shooting hand in an overtime win over Chicago on Feb. 7. The Mavericks (36-23), though, posted a 5-3 record in his absence.

Terry returned to the lineup Sunday night, scoring eight points off the bench in a 109-98 victory over Toronto that completed a 3-0 homestand.

"I thought my conditioning would be the part that I had to worry about, but I think I did a great job of staying in shape," said Terry, who played 19 minutes.

Dirk Nowitzki, who averaged 21.4 points while Terry was sidelined, scored 24 and grabbed 10 rebounds Sunday, while Jason Kidd had nine points and 15 assists to become the fourth player in NBA history with at least 10,000 assists for his career.

"It means a lot of my teammates put the ball in the basket over the years," said Kidd, with 10,002 assists since entering the league in 1994-95. "It's nothing I ever thought I'd accomplish when I started out."

          Pick: Dallas -5
