        Saturday's six-pack

We're looking at some of the best minor league prospects for all thirty major league baseball teams; today, the Florida Marlins......

-- Cameron Maybin, OF-- Was 16-32 for the Marlins last year.

-- Mike Stanton, OF-- Turned down football scholarship at USC.

-- Logan Morrison, 1B-- Reason they traded Jacobs to the Royals.

-- Sean West, P-- Talented, but injury-prone; did well in AFL.

-- Ryan Tucker, P-- Probably better suited to being a closer.

-- Matt Dominguez, 3B-- Should be in majors by 2011.

Saturday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but........

          13) Interesting article in SI.com this week on recruiting; seven of the 12 SEC football teams signed more than 25 players earlier this month by start of school in the fall, only 25 of those kids are allowed to be on scholarship. Lot of creative ways exist to get down to 25.

          12) Its not limited to the SEC, either; North Carolina only lost dozen seniors, but they signed 29 high school kids; Tar Heels have already lost nine kids from LY's team for various reasons, which means either more players will have to "disappear" before next fall.

          11) Next spring, for first time, there will be an equal number of teams having spring training in Arizona as in Florida. Cactus League made a concerted effort to get teams to train in the desert.

          10) Tampa Bay Bucs are $61M under salary cap, so why did they find it necessary to cut Derrick Brooks, best player in history of the franchise? Seems like he deserved lot more respect than that.

          9) Over last five years before this one, Missouri State Bears racked up 19-19-22-22-17 wins, but coach Barry Hinson got canned for not getting Bears into the NCAA tournament. This year, in a new arena and without Henson, Missouri State is 11-18, 3-14 and in last place in the Missouri Valley Conference. Change isn't always good.

          8) Henson's 2006 Missouri State team is still the only team with an RPI better than 30 not to make the NCAA's.

          7) Rhode Island won five in row, nine of last ten games; four of the Rams' 14 conference games have gone into overtime, with URI 3-1 in those four games, including a dramtic win this week vs Dayton.

          6) Vikings traded for Sage Rosenfels, giving him $9M for two years, so the Tavaris Jackson era in the Metrodome has apparently ended.

          5) Do race car drivers lose their hearing later in life? Seems like it is awful loud around a racetrack, no?

          4) There is a NASCAR driver named Scott Speed. Good name.

          3) Former Maryland star/NBA player Adrian Branch now works as an analyst at ESPNU; when he was a student at DeMatha High, one of his teachers was current Niagara hoop coach Joe Mihalich.

          2) Santa Clara lost 81-73 at home to Gonzaga late Thursday-- their fans got a technical foul for throwing a plastic bottle, then a rolled-up piece of aluminum foil on the court late in the game. Coach Keating got on the mike and briefly scolded the fans, but it was too late.

          1) Does anyone know why February only has 28 days? Seriously, it is bothering me that I don't know this. Any help is appreciated.
