        Ice Picks: NHL best bets
        -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

San Jose Sharks at Ottawa Senators (+170, 5.5)

The San Jose Sharks will head into Ottawa fresh off of a hard battle with the Detroit Red Wings. This game is also the tail end of a three games-in-four-night stint for the Sharks.

The Sharks have been playing extremely well as of late winning four in a row prior to meeting the Red Wings on Wednesday.

After struggling for the first time under Cory Clouston, the Senators managed to halt a three-game slide by doubling up the Hurricanes 4-2 on Tuesday night. Clouston was happy with the win but wants to see a more complete effort.

"We got the win, we're happy with it, and we'll build confidence from it, but we've got to put a full 60 minutes together. The other (day in Montreal), it was the last 40. (Tuesday night) it was the first 25."

The Senators are coming off a nice 4-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Ottawa will need to have the big three rolling if they want to avoid a nasty bite from the Sharks. Heatley and Spezza both scored against Carolina while the captain Daniel Alfredsson chipped in with two assists.

San Jose would be the popular pick here but the team will be tired and could be vulnerable for a letdown.

        Pick: Senators +170

St. Louis Blues at Dallas Stars (-160, 5.5)

This is the first of three meetings over the next month and half between the Stars and Blues. In their only other meeting this season the Blues hammered the Stars 6-1 in Dallas.

The Stars were struggling horribly at the time of the loss but have since then turned things around and are in the ***** of the playoff race.

The Blues are also in the post-season hunt, standing just five points back of the final position. Goaltender Chris Mason is getting a much-deserved pat on the back for pulling the Blues back into playoff contention.

Dallas will be looking to bounce back after a tight 1-0 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Monday.

"The effort was great," Stars coach Dave Tippett said. "But we didn't score a goal, and you've got to score a goal to win."
The Stars have finished under the total in seven of their last 10.

There have only been seven total goals scored in the last three games involving the Blues. They doubled up Phoenix 2-1 on Tuesday, prior to that they split a low scoring home-and-home series with the Predators.

        Pick: Under 5.5

Cleveland Cavaliers at Houston Rockets [TNT | 8 PM ET]

Cavs (-1.5, O/U 184): Like Houston, Cleveland also brings a five-game winning streak into this nationally televised game. However, the Cavs have not performed well on Thursdays in prime time, going 3-9 ATS in their last 12 TNT appearances. They have also struggled in Houston over the years, going 3-17 SU in their last 20 trips there. Cleveland star LeBron James will also face former NBA Defensive Player of the Year Ron Artest at times. “Every time we play against each other, it’s fun,” Artest said. “I’m in a different situation now and I’m not on him as much as I’d like to be. Guys like that push me.”

Cavs are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 Thursday games.
The UNDER is 7-3 in Cleveland's last 10 games overall.

Key Injuries - G Delonte West (wrist) is questionable.
F Sasha Pavlovic (ankle) is OUT.

              PROJECTED SCORE: 91

Rockets: Ron Artest has averaged 20.1 points since replacing Tracy McGrady in the starting lineup, but more importantly, he has led Houston to wins in each of the first five games of its six-game homestand. “Our record doesn’t show it, but we’re starting to show the type of team we are," Artest said. “We’re starting to come together.” The Rockets have won eight straight at home, but Artest now faces arguably his toughest test of the season in guarding James, who has only won once in Houston.

Rockets are 7-2 ATS in the last 9 meetings.
The UNDER is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.

Key Injuries - F Carl Landry (ankle) is day-to-day.
G Luther Head (foot) is day-to-day.
G Tracy McGrady (knee) is OUT.

PROJECTED SCORE: 93 (Side Play of the Day)

Phoenix Suns at Los Angeles Lakers [TNT | 10:30 PM ET]

Suns: Phoenix is averaging 128.4 points on 56.7 percent shooting from the field since Alvin Gentry took over as head coach, replacing Terry Porter. The Suns are 4-1 in those games but still sit 14.5 games behind the Lakers in the Pacific Division. It's unknown whether or not point guard Steve Nash will be available after he turned his ankle in the third quarter of a 112-102 win over Charlotte on Tuesday. Nash did return in the fourth and hopes to play.

Suns are 4-1 SU & ATS in their last 5 games overall.
The OVER is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.

Key Injuries - PG Steve Nash (ankle) is questionable.
C Amare Stoudemire (eye) is OUT.

              PROJECTED SCORE: 113

Lakers (-9.5, O/U 237): Nash isn't the only player in this game dealing with an ankle injury, as LA star Kobe Bryant rolled his ankle with four minutes to go in a 107-93 win over Oklahoma City on Tuesday. Like Nash, Bryant also returned to action and saw a close game end with a double-digit victory. Bryant is averaging 33.3 points in his last four games and is looking forward to facing former teammate Shaquille O'Neal. “It was my ankle, but I’ve got ankle insurance,” Bryant said. “I’m fine.”

Lakers are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games vs. Pacific Division.
The OVER is 7-1 in LA's last 8 games vs. Pacific Division.

Key Injuries - C Andrew Bynum (knee) is OUT.

              PROJECTED SCORE: 123

West Virginia at Cincinnati [ESPN | 7 PM ET]

West Virginia (-5, O/U 134.5): Former Cincinnati head coach Bob Huggins will be honored on Thursday despite a controversial ending to his career at the school. Huggins was ousted by the President of the university prior to the 2005-06 season following a drunk-driving arrest after putting the Bearcats on the map again as an elite basketball program. He went on to coach Kansas State before returning to his alma mater West Virginia. Now he returns to Cincy and expects an emotional homecoming. “I’m sure it will when I walk in the building,” Huggins said. “I have a lot of memories there. I had the most wonderful kids in the world. I had terrific experiences there.”

West Virginia is 4-1 SU & ATS in its last 5 games overall.
The UNDER is 7-3 in West Virginia's last 10 road games.

Key Injuries - G Joe Mazzulla (shoulder) is OUT.

                PROJECTED SCORE: 70

Cincinnati: The Bearcats are fighting for their NCAA tournament lives and may be battling their own home crowd, many of whom are expected to be cheering for Huggins. They are currently tied with Syracuse for eighth place in the Big East and realize they need to win this game at home in order to have any hopes of making it to the Big Dance. “If my guys ever worried about the crowds, we’d have packed it in a long time ago,” Cincy head coach Mick Cronin said. “It’s not like we’ve been selling out every night.”

Cincy is 4-1 SU & ATS in its last 5 home games.
The OVER is 9-1-1 in Cincy's last 11 home games.

                Key Injuries - NONE

                PROJECTED SCORE: 65

#16 Purdue at Michigan [ESPN | 9 PM ET]

Purdue (-2.5, O/U 124): The last time these teams met back on January 31st at Mackey Arena, Boilermakers guard Chris Kramer was knocked out with a vicious elbow by Michigan's Manny Harris, who got ejected from the game for his actions. Purdue ended up winning that game 67-49 but dropped two straight after that before starting the team's current four-game winning streak. “We don’t retaliate, we just get `Ws’,” said Kramer. The Boilermakers sit just one game behind Michigan State in the loss column for first place in the Big Ten.

Purdue is 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings.
The UNDER is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings.

                Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 60 (UNDER - Total Play of the Day)

Michigan: The Wolverines are 13-3 at home this season and likely need to win their last three games in order to have any shot at making the NCAA tournament. That makes this meeting with Purdue a must-win situation, although Michigan has dropped three straight games against ranked opponents since beating former #4 Duke 81-73 back on December 6th. The Wolverines finish up the regular season with tough road games at Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Michigan is 9-3 ATS in its last 12 home games.
The UNDER is 8-3-1 in Michigan's last 12 games overall.

                Key Injuries - NONE

                PROJECTED SCORE: 57
