                  Saturday's six-pack

-- Yale handed Princeton its first Ivy League loss; now Tigers and Cornell are tied for Ivy lead-- there is no conference tournament in the Ancient Eight, so the regular season means everything.

-- Michael Vick still has $43.11M left on his contract, but Falcons don't have to pay any of it, except roster bonuses, as long as he is under NFL suspension. Vick's contract runs through 2013.

-- Milwaukee 3B Bill Hall is out 4-6 weeks with a torn calf muscle. Luckily for the Brewers, the season starts in seven weeks.

-- Arkansas suspended PG Fortson indefinitely, which is bad sign for 1-8 team in SEC that has Kentucky coming to town Saturday.

-- Valparaiso coach Homer Drew won his 600th game Friday night, as Crusaders hammered Loyola by 24; Drew seems like a very nice man-- he even hugged the Valparaiso mascot after the game.

-- How is Michael Jordan not already in the hoop Hall of Fame?

Saturday's List........Ranking the months of the year........

This is my very subjective rankings for best months of the year. It will be a lot different from your list; thats what makes like fun.

                    12) June-- Weather really gets lot better now, but there's not so much going on, just baseball and late in the month, the NBA Draft. Really a good time to travel, before the real summer fun starts around here. No holidays in the month don't help it any.

If you're a kid in school, this is the best month of the year, for sure.

                    11) April-- Baseball starts, we trade in college basketball for better weather, but still not great weather. NFL Draft is at end of month, and the NHL playoffs start. NBA playoffs start late in the month.

                    10) May-- Same as April, except add in NBA playoffs, and a holiday weekend at the end of the month. Weather is little better, but this is not a great month for stuff to do.

                    9) February-- Shortest month of year; has college hoop and Super Bowl, but other than that, best thing that happens is the beginning of spring training, otherwise known as when all the really hot strippers migrate to Tampa, to be near ARod for the month.

                    8) January-- If you live in cold climate, January sucks, but playoffs in pro football and the last of the bowl games push it past February in the rankings, even though it has three more days of dismal weather. You know its a bad month when watching golf is a highlight.

If you don't like college basketball, January/February are definitely the two worst months of the year, and it isn't close.

                    7) July-- Get a holiday early in the month, and All-Star break calls for a road trip. Best weather of the year in these parts, but other than the British Open and baseball, not a whole lot of sports going on.

                    6) August-- Football is getting revved up, the pennant races are in full swing, there is lot of nightlife in the area up by Saratoga racetrack, so this is a fun month, the last days of summer, fukk of possibilities.

                    5) September-- One of the three big overlap months of the year, with baseball/football both going strong. If you're a kid or a teacher, this is the worst month of the year. Fortunately, I am neither.

                    4) October-- Baseball playoffs, hockey starts, and there's football all over the place. Easiest month of the year for this website, other than gettign ready for the start of college basketball- big research month.

                    3) November-- By far the busiest month of the year for me-- overlap between football/basketball has become a four-week event, Veterans' Day to the first weekend in December. Throw in three holidays and this is defienitely one of the best months of the year.

                    2) March-- For me, this is the culmination of the sports year, with March Madness my favorite event of the year. Now if you don't like college basketball so much, this can be a boring month.

                    1) December-- Bowl games, climax of the NFL regular season, lot of college hoop, then add in Christmas (and my birthday) and you have the best month of the year. A busy month and a fun month.
