College Funds: Tuesday's best NCAAB bets
              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Marquette Golden Eagles at Villanova Wildcats (-4.5, 148)

Marquette's run as the lone undefeated team in the Big East ended with a 57-56 loss at South Florida on Friday. It was the first road loss for the Golden Eagles (20-3, 9-1) and dropped them into a tie with Louisville for second in the Big East - one-half game behind Connecticut.

With Marquette riding a 12-game winning steak, facing struggling South Florida didn't seem to present cause for concern. The Golden Eagles, though, shot 4-for-24 on 3-point attempts and 10-of-23 from the foul line.

At 46.9 percent, the Golden Eagles are among the top shooting teams in the Big East and must prove that against Villanova (19-4, 7-3), which is holding opponents to 38.5 percent.

Marquette shot 46 percent and went 10-for-24 from beyond the arc to overcome 19 turnovers in its 79-72 home win over the Wildcats on Jan. 1 in the league opener.

Jerel McNeal had 24 points, while backcourt mates Wesley Matthews added 19 and Dominic James 17 for the Golden Eagles in that contest.

No one may be hotter than McNeal, who is averaging 20.0 points on the season and 24.7 in his last seven contests. The 6-foot-3 senior had 22 against South Florida, leaving him 20 shy of the school record of 1,773 career points set by George Thompson from 1966-69.

Reaching that milestone won't be easy against Villanova, which is 12-1 at home but carries a 25-game winning streak at the Pavilion - its on-campus arena - into this contest.

The Wildcats have won their last two games at home against ranked opponents, beating then-No. 3 Pittsburgh 67-57 at home on Jan. 28 and then-No. 20 Syracuse 102-85 on Saturday.

              Pick: Villanova

Clemson Tigers at Boston College Eagles (+3.5, 147.5)

Clemson (19-3, 5-3) appeared to be headed to a fourth consecutive victory Saturday, but blew a 19-point second-half lead and lost 65-61 to Florida State at home.

The defeat, which came three days after the Tigers routed then-No. 4 Duke 74-47 at home, dropped them to 3-3 since opening the season with 16 straight wins.

"We've got to bounce back," said Clemson coach Oliver Purnell, whose team is in a four-way tie for third place in the ACC. "Now we have to go on the road and use the lessons from what Florida State did and what we've done in the past."

As Clemson tries to set a school record by winning 20 games for the third straight season, it again seeks its elusive first victory at Boston College. The Tigers are 0-3 in Chestnut Hill, including a 59-54 defeat on Feb. 24, 2007 - their most recent trip.

The Tigers, though, used balanced offensive efforts to dominate the Eagles in two games in 2007-08. Clemson won 78-56 at home last February and beat Boston College 82-48 in the ACC tournament.

Boston College (18-7, 6-4) is seeking its third straight home win, but like Clemson is trying to recover from a tough loss. The Eagles saw their overall five-game winning streak snapped Sunday with a 93-76 defeat at then-No. 7 Wake Forest.

Jeff Trapani had 19 points and Tyrese Rice added 18 for Boston College, which was outscored 47-29 in the second half after leading by one at the break.

Rice, a senior guard averaging a team-leading 18 points, has not scored more than 17 in any of his five career games against Clemson.

              Pick: Clemson

Denver Nuggets at Miami Heat [7:30 PM ET]

Nuggets: Denver is coming off its worst loss in nearly 12 years, suffering a 114-70 loss at New Jersey on Saturday. The Nuggets had won four straight games before that, and head coach George Karl had an easy explanation. “Sometimes you’re one step slow,” Karl said following the loss to the Nets. “We were two steps slow. Offensively we were slow. Defensively we were slow. Rebounds, hustle points, all that we were slow on. This is the first time all year we haven’t had the energy to fight back.”

Nuggets are 1-3 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
The OVER is 11-4 in Denver's last 15 games vs. Eastern Conference.

Heat (Pick'em, O/U 203): Miami has won its last four home games by an average of 16.5 points and hopes to continue to play strong defensively after limiting opponents to 41.6 percent shooting during that stretch. However, the Heat barely beat Charlotte 96-92 on Sunday. “We may have had a fatigued group out there,” Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra said. “I wanted to make sure we were fresh in the second half and I thought our starters played with a tremendous amount of energy when they had their legs.”
