After the last few years up here, we've learned to trust N.E. and their decisions and i'm 100% confident that there is ZERO risk here. Too many teams need a QB and a bidding war has already begun. Besides, the salary cap takes a big jump for '09 and that would just offset his contract anyway if they needed him to stay. There isn't any risk here.
You seem pretty confident. Just saying stranger things have happened.

If he can go on the FA market and get a 50 Million deal and be a starter, he would. There is ZERO risk here for N.E. and it was the only way they could get something for him instead of losing him for nothing. There will be plenty of teams interested in Cassell and in the end, a trade will be made, and the Patriots will likely get 2 draft picks.

There are rumors of a possible trade to KC for Tony Gonzalez and a 2nd or 3rd round pick. KC Dumps the salary and unhappy player while getting a QB, and New England gets a solid pick and a Pro Bowl TE.
What do we do with Watson if we get Gonzalez? And what does Gonzalez make per year?

It is not the end of the world if they keep him. It is only one year and there are plenty of dead contracts to cut. A much dumber move would be to let him walk. They have nothing to lose this way. They have alot to lose the other way.

Watson has been a bust. Guy drops everything. Who knows, maybe he would get cut but he only makes about 2 million. I'm not sure what Tony makes but it is probably 7-8 million. Just shows that the money isn't scaring New England. I'm sure they will look at all the offers and take the best one.

They should cut Maroney too. The guy is always hurt and he is another bust!

I hope they don't cut this guy as he's still young and is showing promise. I remember years past when NE had no running game and it caused problems. If they are going to get rid of Maroney let's go get Sproyles from San Diego. Or get a really good draft pick RB.

He never plays and they don't need him. Sammy Morris has been better and if Jordan and Faulk are healthy, i would take those 3 with a middle round draft pick at RB. Get rid of his contract. Maroney is a bumb.
