Chicago Blackhawks at Anaheim Ducks (+107, 5.5)

The Chicago Blackhawks haven't fared well in California, and beginning one of the franchise's longest road trips there is probably the last thing they wanted coming out of the All-Star break.

Looking to avoid three straight losses for the first time since their last stay in California, the Blackhawks begin an eight-game, 17-day journey Wednesday against the inconsistent Anaheim Ducks.

The Blackhawks have taken two other eight-game trips in their 82-year history - 1994-95 and 2000-01. The franchise's longest road swing was nine games in 1955-56.

Over the last five seasons, Chicago is 5-17-3 with three ties at Anaheim, San Jose and Los Angeles, and four of those wins have come against the Kings, who the Blackhawks face Thursday.

Their only win in the last nine tries at the Honda Center was a 4-3 shootout victory on Nov. 17, 2006.

Earlier this season, three straight defeats in those cities derailed what was a successful "circus" road trip in late November, including a 1-0 loss in Anaheim on Nov. 28. The Blackhawks ended their annual trek 3-2-1 - their first non-losing record since 2000-01.

Chicago suffered consecutive losses heading into the break and after going 10-1-1 in December, the Blackhawks are 5-5-1 in January. A cold offense that has averaged 1.75 goals over the past eight games and scored five times in the past four contests can take some of the blame.

"We know what kind of team we are, we showed it in December," Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews said after a 2-0 defeat to St. Louis on Jan. 21. "We want to keep going down that path."

Chicago might not have top rookie Kris Versteeg for Wednesday's game because of a finger injury, but could get defenseman Duncan Keith, who missed four games with concussion-like symptoms, back on the ice.

            Pick: Anaheim +107

Nashville Predators at Vancouver Canucks (-172, 5.5)

Scoring has been a weakness for the Nashville Predators all season, and the problem was particularly evident as they headed into the All-Star break.

The Predators return to action Wednesday night as they try to end a three-game losing streak in a road matchup with the slumping Vancouver Canucks.

A season removed from its fourth consecutive playoff appearance, Nashville (20-23-3) is in fourth place in the Central Division with 43 points - one more than St. Louis, which has the lowest point total in the Western Conference.

The Predators' struggles have been due largely to their lack of offense, as they're last in the West with 111 goals and have converted 13.7 percent of their power-play opportunities - among the lowest in the NHL.

Captain Jason Arnott - a two-time 30-goal scorer - leads Nashville with 15 goals, but only four Predators have scored at least 10. All-Star defenseman Shea Weber has 14, but forward J.P. Dumont, who topped the team with a career-high 29 goals last season, has been held to eight.

The Predators have totaled 24 goals in going 3-9-0 in their previous 12 games, and five goals during their three-game skid. Radek Bonk provided the only offense in a 3-1 home loss to New Jersey on Jan. 19 in Nashville's final contest before the break.

Arnott hopes the week off will help the Predators as they open a three-game road trip through Canada.

"(We) talked about it a lot, and now it's just going out and doing it. We hashed out a lot of our issues. Now it's just time to cut down our mistakes and capitalize on our opportunities and just keep working as a team. That's all we can ask," he said.

The Predators can start by ending their scoring problems versus the Canucks. They've managed eight goals in the last six meetings - all losses - and have been limited to two goals in three 2008-09 matchups. Nashville will be trying to avoid being swept by Vancouver in a season series for the first time.

            Pick: Under 5.5

Golden State Warriors at Dallas Mavericks [ESPN | 9 PM ET]

Warriors: Golden State hopes to build off one of its better defensive efforts but can't be overly confident following a 107-92 win over the lowly Clippers on Sunday. The Warriors held an opponent under 100 points for just the eighth time this season but need to consider the opponent with Dallas being a much tougher foe. “Actually, we played better in the games we lost than we played tonight,” Golden State head coach Don Nelson said after the win. “I don’t know that was possible through all the transition that we’re going through right now, but we’ll keep doing what we’re doing.”

Warriors are 8-20-1 ATS in their last 29 road games.
The OVER is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings at Dallas.

Key Injuries - G Jamal Crawford (hamstring) is questionable.

PROJECTED SCORE: 112 (OVER - Total Play of the Day)

Mavs (-7.5, O/U 225): Dallas returns home from a four-game road trip that saw two impressive wins and two dismal losses. The Mavs will face a much different team defensively than they did on Sunday in a 124-100 loss at Boston, as the Warriors have surrendered 111.6 points per game. The Celtics rushed out to a 74-47 halftime lead and never looked back. “I thought they were really looking forward to the game,” Dallas head coach Rick Carlisle said of his players. “Boston was great, and we needed to be better. We haven’t come across a team that plays this effective defensively.”

Mavs are 8-22 ATS in their last 30 home games.
The OVER is 5-1 in Dallas' last 6 games overall.

              Key Injuries - NONE

              PROJECTED SCORE: 119
