This is the annual year end "big deal" show in Japan. I will say that after last year's dream events, i was hooked.
As usual it's all about a "show" in japan with some bouts having k-1 rules, some dream rules (which is mma rules 10 minutes 1st round, 5 minutes 2nd round) and the usual 1 or 2 freak shows.
ex: bob sapp is fighting a amatuer wrestler, who will be wearing a mask and playing the part of a famous japanese anime character. It's actually labeled sapp vs the anime name, not the guys real name.
There are some really good fights on this card though and i want to throw my picks out now, and i will add my pick on the title bout later as i am still undecided.
This is a 3 unit pick (all others are 1 unit)
Badr Hari -220 vs alistair Overeem-
This fight will be under k-1 rules and Badr hari is something like the best heavyweight kickboxer out there, if this was an mma match (like they will have later in the year) i would take overeem. But in a kickboxing match vs one of the best in the game. i'm going with the kickboxer. Hari -220
Tokoro -120 vs Nakamura -120
Both of these guys are pretty evenly matched, and they both go for subs like crazy (which counts as they count points for sub attempts in japan) They both have good ground games and i'm going with nakamura because he is on a 7 fight win streak and he is about 30 lbs bigger. Nakamura -120
JZ Cavalcante -130 vs Joachim Hansen
This is set up to be the co-main event, with hansen being ranked #4 lightweight in the world and JZ #6. Hansen actually beat JZ in 2004 for 1 of his 2 losses. I see JZ wanting to avenge that loss and being able to take hansen this time around. I think he can pound him out. JZ Cavalcante -130
Eddie Avarez -140 vs Shinya Aoki
This is THE ONE, THE BIGGIE. These are the the # 2 and #3 lightweights in the world and this fight is for the title. Guys IMO this fight alone is bigger and better than the whole ufc 92 card. Alvarez has a strong wrestling base, and very good striking, Aoki is a submission machine LITERALLY, aoki attempts 30 subs on average per fight, yea, and the only place where we have not seen alvarez is on his back, even if alvarez is super careful he could still wind up on his back and aoki can do things you guys haven't seen in usa. ( a couple fights back he finished it with a omaplata from a front mounted postion, everyone was shocked and the announcers finally said it was an aokiplata, the dude made his own submission) nobody has ever seen anything like it, and while aoki does have all those subs he does NOT have striking at all, and alvarez does. This is the pick i will update later for now i'm leaning toward alvarez but not official.
cro cop filipovich -200 vs hong man choi
a lot of people like cro cop, i'm so, so on him, but the way both of these guys have looked stay away. cro cop is like 1 foot lower and about 80 lbs lighter, freak show. just thought i'd let people know he's fighting.
there was just a last minute replacement in 1 fight and the line is not up yet, there is also 1 other fight that is not up yet. this is common with japanese fights.
mark hunt was supposed to fight lebanner,(out because of flu) but melvin manhoef just took the fight literally like an hour ago. so it's hunt vs manhoef and if you get a decent line take Manhoef.
I will update as i need to and i will be back with a final pick on the title fight.
*** remember this goes off 1am eastern time dec 31st so if your getting on these they would have to be in by tonight at 1 am.
