  • The falacy of betting only on good teams and not to bet on the bad teams

A member here jumped down my throat once when i bitched about the detroit lions on thanksgiving day

i was told thats what happens when you bet on shitty teams

here are some examples of "shitty teams" being profitable

oklahoma city has a 3-26 record straight up-- did you know they have covered 3 straight , 5 of 6 , 10 of 13 and 12 of 16 games ?!!

The might lakers with their 24-5 overall record just went thru a stretch of not covering 10 straight games

milwaukee with their 14-16 record has been the 2nd most profitable team to bet on in the nba behind the cavs this year !! Covering 21 of their 30 games

new orleams has only covered 10 of their 25 games

shit... Even those shitty detroit lions have managed to cover 7 games this year

im sure there are many other examples and i will post them when i find them

the key is to find value - alot of these big name teams have inflated lines because of the records

who would have thought betting ok city would have covered 10 of 13 games for you if you bet them the last 13 games ?

    Just food for thought

I agree in that there are alot of public teams out there in all sports that are overpriced and can offer some value. Personally I only bet a dog if I think they have a good shot of winning outright and not simply hanging around and staying within the number. JMO.

      Greek,

      Shut up about this.....LOL

I've been winning with Milwaukee and OKC all season,

Here's another one: the Lakers had lost ten in a row ATS prior to their last two wins

OKC could go 0-16 ATS and still have a winning season against the spread.Detroit don't have but 16 chances to prove there worth. And there worth ain't shit IMO

And I will also say that Culpeper has made a decent team out of them.If Kitna had stayed QB they might be 0-15 SU and 0-15 ATS.I have taken them several times lately because of Culpepper. Now,it's back off the bandwagon for me with Culpepper hurt.

most of the games detroit has covered have been on the road with the higher spreads -- they only covered one game at home beacuse the spreads were so much lower

Can you imagine them w/o Calvin Johnson.I mean people want to talk about MVP because of what someone means to a team but I don't know if anyone is more valuable to there team than him.

Interesting GG...I know you are a huge dog man,,,and i know you do well,,so who am I to argue... Not related to betting dogs,,in fact the exact opposite...do you think it will or would have been profitable to bet the Boston Celts ML every game this year. I am sure someone out there could look up the stats for this,,,I would guess you would be ahead right now,,,,but would this be profitable for an entire year????

If gambling on shitty teams is so easy, why are you 5-7 betting on Detroit this year?

You know my record when I have bet on the lions ?

                      SO...Im almost at .500 betting on a 0-15 team !!- Thats not bad !!

Where did I say gambling on shitty teams was easy ???!!!

I just went thru the worst 3 month stretch in my life this past football season

All im saying is you dont have to bet on the lakers and boston to win -- there is value taking ugly dogs as the two I have posted above

The Colts have a great record but they suck against the spread

                      There are many examples

But I never said it was easy so dont put words in my mouth

Yep, I was bored tonight and I was really surprised that someone actually bet on the Lions 12 times this year I know what you were trying to say, But saying "there is value taking ugly dogs as the two I have posted above" may be a little misleading. Happy Holidays

like you said in the 1st post, the key is finding the value. It is silly to say not to bet on a team, just as it is silly to say to bet on a team. You can always find examples to support almost any argument.

There are of course bad teams that suck against the spread and bad teams that are good against the spreads, just as there are good teams that are good against the spread and good teams that are bad against the spreads.
