I won a big 3* Wednesday on Notre Dame as one of my most importnant bowl criteria worked---play the better coach. Charlie Weis vs. Gregg McMakin was one for the ages but there are two more this weekend.
Friday:
1* Florida Atlantic +7
First off, I am prepared to go against the MAC the entire bowl season. This was a down year for the league yet somehow the MAC got a bunch of bowl bids. Central Michigan scores a lot but has no defense. Howard Schnellenberger won a national championship and has been succesful everywhere he has been. Give him four weeks to prepare against the CMich coach who is winning with Brian Kelly's players---no contest.
Saturday:
3* North Carolina +1 1/2
This is the most staggering coaching mismatch of all---Butch Davis going against the befuddled Bill Stewart. North Carolina made major strides this year while WV underperformed and is not happy to be stuck in a nothing bowl. NC won numerous close games this year and is battle-tested. The game being in Charlotte helps. The lone worry is whether WV's strong run game can overpower NC. I look for Davis to put seven in the box and force Pat White to throw. Imagine Bill Stewart trying to counter that.....
NOTE: I posted the NC play earlier as a 1* when the line was "pick." The above play is an upgrade. I'll rate it in my record as a 1* at pick and 2* at +1 1/2.
Sunday:
Opinion only:
Louisiana Tech (as I stated, keep going against the MAC)
NFL:
I'll write these up later but am betting them now at the lines listed:
3* Texans -2 1/2 (-115)
3* 49ers -2 1/2 (-120)
1* Jets -2 1/2
1* Bengals -2 1/2 (-115)
