College football offers up the Poinsettia Bowl on Tuesday night, while the NBA and NHL will provide full slates to sports fans. Here's your Daily Sports Roundup.

The Gridiron Spotlight

The Boise State Broncos didn't lose a game all season long, but despite that feat they're still stuck in a pre-Christmas bowl game this year. The Broncos (12-0 straight-up, 8-3 against-the-spread) ended their regular season in style, blasting Fresno State by a score of 61-10 as they rolled to top spot in the WAC standings.

Boise State's Poinsettia Bowl opponent will be the TCU Horned Frogs, who finished the season at 10-2 SU and 8-3 ATS. The Horned Frogs' only losses this year came versus ranked opponents - Oklahoma and Utah. TCU got past Air Force 44-10 in their last game, but they will be missing linebacker Robert Henson on Tuesday night - the star player is out for the game due to academic reasons.

Nevertheless the oddsmakers have TCU pegged as 3-point favorites, with the total at 46 points. Both the Horned Frogs and Broncos were 5-6 versus the totals.

Other Notable Events

There are a dozen NBA games on the schedule for Tuesday, including three high-powered matchups - Houston at Cleveland, the Lakers at New Orleans, and Denver at Portland. LeBron James and his Cavaliers have won three games in a row to sit at 23-4 on the year, and they've paid off for bettors at 21-6 ATS so far.

The rest of the league's slate: Oklahoma City at Atlanta, New Jersey at Indiana, Washington at Charlotte, Philadelphia at Boston, Golden State at Miami, Chicago at Detroit, Utah at Milwaukee, Memphis at Dallas, and Minnesota at San Antonio.

The NHL has a busy night as well, with 13 games on the ice. The top Eastern clash has Boston at New Jersey, while the marquee Western contest features Vancouver at San Jose. Rounding out the calendar: Atlanta at the Islanders, Washington at the Rangers, Ottawa at Philadelphia, Los Angeles at Columbus, Tampa Bay at Pittsburgh, St. Louis at Detroit, Nashville at Florida, Dallas at Toronto, Carolina at Minnesota, Phoenix at Colorado, and Anaheim at Calgary.

Finally, college hoops winds down its pre-Christmas schedule with plenty of ranked teams in action on Tuesday. No. 7 Gonzaga, which dropped an 88-83 OT decision to UConn last time out, will try to get back on the winning track against Portland State. As well, it's No. 9 Texas vs. Wisconsin, Florida International vs. No. 12 Georgetown, Wyoming vs. No. 13 UCLA, Butler vs. No. 14 Xavier, Idaho State vs. No. 20 Arizona State, SE Louisiana vs. No. 23 Minnesota, and Illinois vs. No. 25 Missouri. The Tigers beat Stetson 78-44 last game to improve to 9-1.

News from the Wire

Rockets guard Rafer Alston missed another game on Monday with his hamstring injury . . . Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony isn't expected to play again until the weekend because of his sore elbow . . . Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron suffered another concussion on the weekend and is out indefinitely . . . Senators forward Daniel Alfredsson is questionable for Tuesday night due to an upper-body injury.

A Peek at the Future

There is just one game on the schedule for Wednesday - a Christmas Eve matchup between Hawaii and Notre Dame in the Hawaii Bowl (8:00pm ET). The Fighting Irish are pegged as 1.5-point favorites in that matchup, with the total at 48 points . . . Christmas Day only has NBA this year, with five games on the hardwood. The Celtics/Lakers matchup at 5:00pm ET is the highlight of the day.

Tuesday's List of 13: Assigning a grades to AFC teams......

Ravens-- Inc (Will be A if they beat Jaguars Sunday)-- Rookie coach, rookie QB, and the best offense they've had since Vinny Testaverde was calling signals in Baltimore. An amazing season.

Bills-- D. Not many NFL teams start season 4-0 and miss playoffs. Playing a home game indoors against Miami in Toronto, instead of in the elements of Orchard Park, didn't help the cause any.

Bengals-- D--. Carson Palmer's injury gives them a little slack, but at end of the day, failing to trade Chad Johnson created more negativity in a place where they don't need any more of that.

Browns-- F. Is there an F-minus? Networks gave them five games in primetime, and they responded with an 0-4 preseason, then a worse regular season. Heads are going to roll and they're going to roll soon.

Broncos-- Inc (Will be F if they blow playoff spot by losing in San Diego Sunday)-- Go through running backs like Charlie Sheen goes through hookers. Maybe they should draft some more players from Vanderbilt-- Commodores have such a winning tradition, after all......

Texans-- C. Houston was down 11 late in game Sunday, threw pass on 3rd-and-1 from Oakland 5. Incomplete pass, which shows no faith in running game. So they kick a FG and get within 27-19 right? Um, no, they throw another incomplete pass on 4th down, and lose by 11, in process ending their chance for a first winning season. Terrific.

Colts-- A+. Grinded whole month of September, going 2-2 when they trailed by double digits in second half of both wins. Now they're on a serious roll, and will be road favorite in Wild Card round of playoffs.

Jaguars-- D--. Were popular choice to contend for AFC title, but lost pair of offensive linemen in September, and things fell apart quickly. In a world that loves scapegoats, defensive coordinator Williams will take the fall for this disaster of a season.
Chiefs-- D+. Longtime team president Peterson got whacked; it will be a miracle (not for Chief fans) if Herm Edwards is back next year. Upside for this season is that they found a QB in mobile Thigpen.

Dolphins-- Inc (will be A+ if they make playoffs). Miami was 1-15 last year, 1 and freakin' 15. Their dilemma for 2009 will be how they are going to integrate young QB Henne into lineup, since Pennington has done such a terrific job this season.

Patriots-- Inc (will be B+ unless they make playoffs, A+ if they get into postseason). Tom Brady is one of five best QBs of alltime, so replacing him in first half of first game of season was Herculean task. Now Matt Cassel is going to be really rich, while Brady's knee is ??

Jets-- Inc (will be D if they miss playoffs). In the words of Micheal Ray Richardson, "....the ship be sinkin'." 1-3 in their last four games, with the win a gift from strategically-challenged Buffalo. Favre looks old, Maginious looks comatose, the media is blood-thirsty. Uh-oh.

Raiders-- D. Fired the coach in first half of season, had wildly erratic performances after that. Gave up a TD on fake FG to Chiefs, but the punt returner Higgins is as good as anyone in NFL. It looks as if the game has passed Al Davis by, but no one wants to tell him.

Steelers-- B+. Have played lot of dramatic games. Are really lucky Ernie Accorsi was so enamored with Eli Manning, since thats how it fell that Ben Roethlisberger became a Steeler. Still confused why the Heinz Field playing surface is grass and not FieldTurf.

Chargers-- Inc. (B if they beat Denver and win AFC West with 8-8 record.) 4-8 at one point, San Diego can atone for everything and win AFC West Sunday, if they beat Broncos at Qualcomm. How they had 4-8 record is one thing, but recovering from it trumps that, and Norv Turner gets credit for keeping the ship afloat.

Titans-- A+. Its one thing when your franchise QB is a bust, but if the veteran journeyman backup steps in and has MVP-type season, and the rookie RB is one of fastest guys in NFL, and the defense has depth and speed and toughness, then you win top seed in the AFC.

Washington Wizards at Charlotte Bobcats (-6.5, 191)

The East's leaders in losses meet for the first time this season Tuesday in Charlotte, with Washington looking to avoid a seventh straight defeat.

Charlotte (9-19) finished at least 16 games under .500 in each of its first four seasons, and in its first season under coach Larry Brown, any progress has been slow.

The Bobcats traded away leading scorer Jason Richardson earlier this month, and they had lost seven in a row before earning back-to-back wins over Chicago and Memphis last week. They lost again Saturday, 110-103 at home to Golden State.

Gerald Wallace had 26 points and Raja Bell - acquired from Phoenix in the Richardson trade - added 21. The NBA's lowest-scoring team at 91.3 points per game, the Bobcats have topped 100 points in three straight contests.

A playoff team last spring, the Wizards (4-21) have lost their last six games by an average of more than 16 points. Washington has shot 41.1 percent from the field over that span while allowing opponents to hit 49.5 percent.

Washington matched a franchise record for the worst 25-game start with Sunday's 97-86 loss to Dallas, equaling a mark set by the 1966-67 Baltimore Bullets. Antawn Jamison scored 22 points, but none were in the fourth quarter when Washington was outscored 27-18.

Coach Ed Tapscott is hoping a lineup change could help turn things around. DeShawn Stevenson, who has started 189 straight games since joining the Wizards for the 2006-07 season, will come off the bench Tuesday. Stevenson is shooting 31.7 percent from the field this season.

Philadelphia 76ers at Boston Celtics (-13, 193)

The reigning champions try to set a league record for the best 29-game start in NBA history and establish a franchise record with a 19th consecutive victory as they host the short-handed Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday.

Boston became just the third team to start 26-2 after running past the New York Knicks 124-105 on Sunday for its 18th straight win. Rajon Rondo scored 18 of his career-high 26 points in the third quarter, helping the Celtics join the 1966-67 Sixers and 1969-70 Knicks - who both eventually won NBA titles - as the only teams to have just two losses through their first 28 games.

In the past two games, Rondo has dominated in different ways. The point guard had 15 assists with only one turnover in Friday's victory over Chicago and shot 12-of-15 with five assists on Sunday. Boston is 17-0 when he scores in double figures, something he's done 13 times since its last loss on Nov. 14.

Rondo has averaged 13.4 points and 8.0 assists in the 18 wins, shooting 57.6 percent while compiling a 3.5-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

The Celtics will not have backup forward Glen Davis, who was released from the hospital Sunday after suffering a concussion and whiplash in an automobile accident earlier that day.

Philadelphia, which starts a six-game road trip with this contest, fell 95-94 to Indiana on Saturday, its first loss in four games since interim coach Tony DiLeo took over for the fired Maurice Cheeks. Andre Miller had 14 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds for his eighth career triple-double, but Andre Iguodala missed a potential game-winning shot as time expired.

Guard Willie Green is questionable for this game after spraining his ankle in Saturday's loss.

Nashville Predators at Florida Panthers (-130, 5.5)

Tomas Vokoun spent eight seasons as the No. 1 goaltender for the Nashville Predators, winning 161 games and helping the franchise to its first three playoff berths.

Now a member of the Florida Panthers, he appears to be rounding back into form just in time to face his former club.

Coming off his second shutout of the season, Vokoun seems likely to be in net to meet the Predators for just the second time as an opponent as Nashville visits Sunrise, Fla., on Tuesday.

The left-handed Czech was an All-Star last season, but he got off to a slow start this fall, losing 10 of his first 14 appearances - and losing some playing time to backup Craig Anderson.

He's rebounded recently, going 2-0-1 with a 1.27 goals-against average in three starts spanning the Panthers' last four games. That includes a 23-save effort in Florida's 3-0 win over Colorado on Sunday.

The Panthers (15-13-4) have been playing better recently, going 8-2-3 in the past month while allowing 2.15 goals per game over that span. They're 3-1-1 in their last five games despite scoring just 11 total goals.

Nashville (16-13-3) has also relied on defense to win games recently. The Predators are 5-3-1 in December, averaging 1.8 goals but allowing just 1.6 while shutting out four opponents.

Carolina Hurricanes at Minnesota Wild (-145, 5.5)

The Minnesota Wild haven't generated much offense lately, and that doesn't bode well ahead of Tuesday's home meeting with the Carolina Hurricanes and rejuvenated goaltender Cam Ward.

Since returning from a groin injury on Dec. 13, Ward has gone 3-1-1 and allowed two goals or fewer in four of those starts for the Hurricanes (16-14-5). The Wild (16-14-2) have a 1-6-1 mark in their last eight, scoring two or fewer seven times in that span.

Ward made 26 saves, and Carolina improved to 4-1-3 in its last eight with a 3-2 overtime win on Sunday in Montreal.

"It was definitely a relief to get an overtime win. It 's a huge win for our team," Ward said. "Hopefully, we continue to do some good things in Minnesota."

The return of franchise scoring leader Marian Gaborik back has done little to help the Wild's struggling offense, which has averaged 2.62 goals per game.

After a 27-game absence with a lower-body injury, Gaborik, who set career highs for goals (42) and points (83) last season, had a goal and an assist in his return on Dec. 17 during a 3-2 overtime loss to Calgary.

He has failed to record a point in two games since, including a 4-2 defeat on Saturday in St. Louis. Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored 2:21 into the third period to tie the game at 2, but the Blues responded with the eventual winning score 30 seconds later.
