  • Leinart versus Cassell

I was listening to Mike and Mike this morning, and they brought up the whole Leinart/Cassell thing, which started me thinking. How do you think Leinart felt in that handshake after the game was over? What does Cassell say.........uhhhh.......nice game, Matt.

Mr. Pretty Boy, Mr. Everything, Mr. All World in college...........high draft pick........big contract...... Who could of guessed a few years later that it would have taken his team being down 47-0.......in a snow storm........for a team whose playoff fate was already determined......for Leinart to even get into a game. MEANWHILE, the reason his team was down 47-0 was in large part due to his college back up throwing for 350 yards in said snow storm, and having a magical season.

Now, with both guys contract coming due, Cassell is line to sign a contract that will probably double up Mr. Leinart's deal. Amazing how fortunes can change so quickly.

Cassell will deserve a new nice contract while Leinart was overpriced to begin with.

I still think Leinart is going to be a good pro and better than Cassell over the long haul.

Cassell is overrated. Almost any NFL QB would flourish in the Patriots sytem currently. Do you think if Cassell signs with the Raiders or Lions next season he will have any where near the same success?

I agree with you, and that is why I think Leinart will be better as the bar will be low...but in his defense, he has not had much of a running game.

Linehart will never amount to anything. Too much of a party boy.

Of course the team/system/opportunity all matter, but none of that matters when it comes to real life. Cassell is going to get a big ass deal and Leinart won't.....that's the reality of things. I also think you are selling Cassell a little short. He sucked when he first came in, showing that not just anyone could jump in and do well. The turn around he has made is rather remarkable in my book.

agreed, but still something NOBODY would have believed at draft time.

He has certainly earned a starting job, and there are probably 8-10 teams that would LOVE to have Cassell as their QB next year.

The Pats actually have a really tough call to make on Cassell. They have done a lot to develope him, and he is playing really well. If they don't slap the franchise tag on him, they will get nothing in return for him. If they slap the franchise tag on him he will be a top 10 paid QB, and it is hard to ahve that on the bench. I know it is blasphemous to even consider Cassell starting overy Brady, but nohting would shock me. Brady is 31 years old, and likely only had another 3-5 years left to play at the level he was playing at. That was before hthe injury and surgery that seems to be a very big deal. There isn't any guarantee at all that he is the same Brady upon return. Cassell has showed he can run this team and is five years younger than Brady. Seems like the Pats willhave to sign Cassell to me, and then maybe trade one of the guys. You could probably get a couple 1st round draft picks for Brady I'd think?.

Cassell will get a nice contract but I dont think he'll get a huge one. If Cassell decides to stay in NE, we all know he aint getting a big deal (cause NE never give up big money) but even if he goes to another team...I cant justify giving this dude a big payday after 1 season...unless he goes to the Raiders.

All I know is Cassell is one of my fantasy football keepers along with Steve Slaton. Got Cassell off waivers mid-year and Slaton was a late-round draftpick. Im set up something sweet. I hope Brady tears another ACL in the offseason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think it's a big QB market so someone will certainly overpay for Cassell. It sort of reminds me of Neil O'Donnell when the Jets paid an absurd amount for him. I do think Cassell is a bit more talented than him, but he really needs to go to a team that has good parts around him. Cassell has Welker, Moss and a solid running game right now. What happens if he ends up with scrubs and rookies on a rebuilding team?

No way he stays as a backup unless the Patriots give him big enough money to stay put.
