  • How Can Tuberville Be Canned When......

that buffoon from Fresno, Pat Hill, still has a job.

Isn't it pathetic Ball State won't play Boise State in the bowl game just because it's on Boise's home field? This is Ball State's only chance EVER for greatness. They could go unbeaten and knock off another unbeaten team. Instead, they wimp out.
I'd root against them tonight except I might play them.

Whatever school hires Mike Leach will be disappointed. This is the first year his program has had any defense at all and even at that he was uncompetitive against a real offense like Oklahoma. Leach has always played a patsy non-conf schedule which has inflated his record. If he goes to the SEC, he'll flop.

The same is true of Gary Patterson, except in reverse. He has great defenses and no offense. He'll be an also ran in a major conference.

Tuberville went UNBEATEN only four years ago and plays in the most brutal conference in America and had beaten Alabama six years in a row prior to this year. Are they crazy at Auburn?

It's astonishing how many decent coaches are being fired. There are five great coaches in America: Urban Meyer, Pete Carroll, Nick Saban, Jim Tressel and maybe Bob Stoops or Mack Brown. The rest are just coaches. To keep firing guys every four years guarantees your program will never go anywhere as you are constantly rebuilding and changing systems.

I think it would have been a mistake to fire Charlie Weis but I at least understand the points of those who disagree. The Auburn situation is unbelievable.

And what is it with Pat Hill at Fresno?? Has any coach mismanaged a program worse? He points for non-conference games and has lousy regular season games! His team has never won the WAC. How does he keep his job?????

i think mike leach is a character, but i expect that if he lands an sec team, he will do ok. Can you imagine Auburn in a couple years with his style offense and an sec defense? Would be fun to watch, it cant get much worse than where they are at now.

I dont think Tommy should have lost his job though, they lost 5 commitments instantly and i think more are to follow. I always thought Tommy T was a good coach.
No record here, Just wishing you good luck.

What's a SEC defense? Does a team acquire a SEC defense once that team plays in the SEC?

I can tell you this, i am from big 12 country, and they play defense a lot better in the sec than we do out here!

But hell, Who needs Defense right?

Tuberville turned around both Mississippi and Auburn. He was jobbed out of a national title in 04.

He'll win wherever he lands. Auburn may end up like A & M---constantly canning coaches just as they are on the verge of something real.

Why do Fresno fans tolerate Hill's incompetence when fans at so many other schools are IMPoSSIBLE to please??

I'm not going to try and defend Pat Hill too much. A lot of people would have been happy if he took the Washington job he interviewed for, or the few pro teams that have offered him a head coaching position. He has a good bowl record, and he does decently with the talent he gets.

It's not easy recruiting in Calif. He has to compete with Cal, Stanford, USC and UCLA. Who does Boise St compete with for recruiting? Idaho? lol.... He has two top QB's in line to play at Fresno. One is a Michael Vick type of player who was heavily recruited by Pac 10 teams and the other is David Carr's brother, who had 70 some odd schools looking for him. He could have named his school. Fresno will be back. I'm confident about that.

Hill has turned out three quality QB's in the pro's and several pro player as well. Volek, Carr and Dilfer. Like I said. He does well with the talent he has. Better than most would. There are teams in the Pac 10 that are far worse. See Wash, Wash St.....

He has one of the best records against BCS schools than any other non BCS team.....The problem this year was defense and Tom Brandstater just didn't have the same year as last year. Maybe a weak O line.....

                Just my take....

Auburn Athletic Director asked Tubberville 3 times to stay and Tubberville still DECIDED(not canned) to leave. Some people were calling for his job but the important people wanted him to stay.I agree that alot of coaches ain't getting enough time to turn things around.

I agree. You will never see a 60,70 or 80 point total in the SEC that's for sure.

Tuberville left because he was not given an extension; that's the equivalent of canning him.

As for my point on Fresno, Hill's teams are only .500 in the WAC and routinely quit (like last week at Boise). This is a reflection on the coach.

I think the guy has bad prioritites---like when he called the Wisconsin game the most important in program history. NO! A non-conf game is not as important as a conference game; every coach in America knows this.

gris--why would you say M A Y B E Bob Stoops...compare his record of the last 10 years, his tenure at OK, vs the others.....and the SOS it's against, you might want to use the M A Y B E on one of the other coaches....IMO

                        check the stats please...

Yea there is no arguing that Bob Stoops is one of the best coaches in the country, in my opinion THE BEST, and i hate the sooners.

Being from Hawaii and watching the Warriors battle Fresno every year, I've come to appreciate Pat Hill as a coach. He's tough, hard-nosed and about as no-nonsense as they come and generally, his teams reflect his personality. He plays a tough non-conference schedule and never backs down from a challenge. He has turned out a number of quality NFL players (Dilfer, Volek, Berrian to name a few) and has a couple of prospects this year in Pascoe, Ajirotutu and Matthews. He recruits his area well.

It seems to me, that Fresno really hasn't been the same team since they lost that game to USC (was it last year or two years ago) that they controlled most of the way. They tanked the rest of that season and it seems that they've never quite gotten over that loss as a program. I don't know if the program needs a new HC, but a return to the smash-mouth philosophy on offense would be a good start. They seem to be playing more of a finesse type of offense (spread formations, passing) than the more traditional power offense they've run over the years. And Brandstater just isn't very good.... I've never been very impressed with him, but he keeps getting mentioned as a pro prospect just because of his prototypical size/strength.

Anyway, that's my scatterbrained take on the Hill situation. I for one, think the WAC takes a big hit if he leaves.

I respect the job Stoops has done and OU has been outstanding the last 10 years. The problem is he seems to suffer from that same affliction as my favorite team the Hokies and that's a big struggle in the bowl games. I still can't believe they didn't hammer WVU last year. Nothing against WVU but OU's talent level was far superior. If OU gets to the big one this year, will they be able to take advantage of the opportunity?
