The Jets will be trying to run their winning streak to six games on Sunday afternoon when they play host to the Broncos. Here's your Daily Sports Roundup.

The Gridiron Spotlight

The Jets have a one-game lead on the Patriots in the AFC East division standings heading into play on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a five-game winning streak punctuated by a 34-13 win over the Titans last weekend. New York is now 8-3 straight-up and 7-4 against-the-spread on the season, and they're 7.5-point home favorites Sunday versus the Broncos. Denver is at 6-5 SU and 3-7-1 ATS.

The Patriots took care of the Dolphins 48-28 last week behind the arm of Matt Cassel and the hands of Randy Moss, and New England is a 1-point home favorite on Sunday against the Steelers. The other marquee contest on Sunday has the rival Giants and Redskins clashing in Washington, with the Giants pegged as 3.5-point favorites as they try to win their seventh consecutive game.

Elsewhere on the NFL's schedule for Sunday: San Francisco at Buffalo (-6.5), Baltimore (-7) at Cincinnati, Indianapolis (-5) at Cleveland, Carolina at Green Bay (-3), Miami (-9) at St. Louis, New Orleans at Tampa Bay (-4), Atlanta at San Diego (-4.5), and Kansas City at Oakland (-3). As well, the primetime matchup has the Bears playing in Minnesota, with the Vikings listed as 3.5-point favorites.

Other Notable Events

The Toronto Raptors will be in tough on Sunday night as they play in Los Angeles against the West-leading Lakers. There are also a couple of early games on the hardwood on Sunday, with Portland at Detroit at 3:00pm ET, and Chicago at Philadelphia at 5:00pm. Making up the rest of the NBA's Sunday slate are Houston at Denver and New Jersey at Phoenix, with both starting at 8:00pm.

The Rest of the Schedule

Notable college hoops action on Sunday includes UNC-Asheville at No. 1 North Carolina, Western Kentucky at No. 3 Louisville, Rice at No. 6 Texas, Furman at No. 8 Notre Dame, and Missouri-Kansas City at No. 17 Florida. As well, tourneys such as the Old Spice Classic and the Anaheim Classic will continue; check your favorite books for up-to-date matchups and lines for those tournament contests.

Finally, there are just four games on the NHL's Sunday schedule, with Florida at the Rangers, St. Louis at Atlanta, Edmonton at Dallas, and Anaheim at Carolina.

A Peek at the Future

Monday Night Football this week is a matchup of two disappointing AFC South teams - the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans. Both of those teams are 4-7 on the season, with Houston favored by 3 points at home on Monday . . . the NBA starts its December schedule with three games on Monday night, as Minnesota is in Charlotte, Boston hosts Orlando, and Miami visits Golden State.

Sunday's College Basketball

Notes on the top games on today's card........

Cornell favored at Indiana? Wow-- Randy Wittman was a great Hoosier, his son starts for Cornell team that is 4-2, losing by 11 to St John's and by 18 at Siena. Indiana went 1-2 in Maui, beating D-II Chaminade by a hoop to salvage one win. They have no regulars back from last season.

Siena, Oklahoma State will fight hard to avoid leaving Disney 0-3; Saints had double-digit lead vs Wichita Friday, lost by hoop. Cowboys lost by 12 to Gonzaga (up 1 at half), by 15 to Michigan State (down 15 at half). Big 12 teams are 9-6 vs spread on neutral floors, MAAC sides are 6-4.

Wichita State rallied from 12 down vs Siena Friday; they scored 65+ in their three wins, 65-50 in losses (Georgetown by 8, UMKC by 3 pts). Michigan State plays North Carolina at Ford Field Wednesday- are they looking ahead- they allowed 79,80 points in first two games at Disney. ? MVC underdogs are 5-7, 3-4 on neutral floors.

Maryland, Georgetown have met just twice in last 25 years, so this is a big deal in Chesapeake Bay region. Terps beat Michigan State squad that didn't have its center, then got waxed by Gonzaga. ACC underdogs are 7-2 vs spread so far this season. Big East neutral court favorites are 8-5.

Tennessee went to Seattle LY, beat Gonzaga by 10 (led 36-31 at half); Vols beat Siena by 14, then pulled away late from Georgetown- they're more balanced, more athletic than LY. Zags beat Oklahoma State by 12 in opener here, then easily beat Maryland by 23- they're +27 in second halves of those two games.

Charlotte, Fullerton are both 0-2 in Anaheim event; Titans lost by 25 to St Mary's Friday- they lost four starters from LY's Big West champs, so they figure to struggle early, even playing just eight miles from campus. 49ers lost last five games, two in OT, one by a point- their confidence level is very low- they were up 10 at half Friday but lost to Providence.

Providence lost badly to Baylor in first round, were down 10 at half to Charlotte Friday, but rallied to win; Friars scored 56-67 points in their games in this event, not good. St Mary's star Mills had dreadful game in loss to UTEP- he recovered when Gaels blasted Fullerton Friday. WCC favorites are 9-4 vs spread. Big East underdogs are 8-5.

Texas-El Paso has been spunky this week, upsetting St Mary's 75-62 in first round, then losing by 3 to Wake Forest Friday- they had lost home game to UNLV before this, so they're pleasant surprise. Arizona State couldn't handle Baylor's guards Friday, after crushing Charlotte in first round. Pac-10 favorites are 16-20; C-USA underdogs are 10-12.

Baylor's senior guards have been terrific this week; Bears beat Arizona State by 9 Friday after beating Providence by 16 Thursday. Wake Forest ispicked 3rd in ACC, so they're good- they beat Fullerton by six in first round, then spunky UTEP by 3 Friday. ACC underdogs are 7-2, Big 12 favorites are 8-3 on a neutral floor.

Vanderbilt cruised part Drake last night, leading by 11 at half, winning by 15. Vandy played three guys 31+ minutes, and survived Ogilvy's (18 min) foul trouble. VCU was down point at half last night, beat the Lobos going away-- they were 10-19 from arc, played two guys 35-37 minutes no one else more than 28. VCU's Grant was at Florida, he knows Vandy.

Toronto Raptors at Los Angeles Lakers (-12.5, 206)

Boasting the NBA's top record, the Lakers look to win their seventh straight home game against the Raptors when the teams meet Sunday night.

Los Angeles (13-1) won its sixth in a row Friday night, beating Dallas 114-107. The Lakers' lone loss this season was 106-95 against Detroit on Nov. 14.

"We're a pretty smart team," said Los Angeles star Kobe Bryant, who had a season-high 35 points. "So if something is not going our way in the first half, we all come in here and not just talk about playing harder, but we also talk about the execution of it. That's the way Phil (Jackson) has raised us to play and think."

The Lakers matched the 2001-02 championship team for the best start after 14 games in the franchise's 61-year history. That club won three more contests before losing its second game.

Bryant was 14-for-26 from the field Friday after going 5-for-17 with 12 points in Wednesday's 120-93 win over New Jersey. He has had little trouble at home against Toronto (8-7) in his career, helping the Lakers win nine of 10 games.

Bryant has scored at least 31 points in each of his last four games versus the Raptors at Staples Center, including the second-highest point total in NBA history with 81 in a 122-104 win on Jan. 22, 2006.

His success has helped Los Angeles win six straight home games over Toronto since an 89-86 loss on Dec. 28, 2001. The Lakers are averaging 110.2 points during that run.

Los Angeles went 2-0 against Toronto last season, averaging 119.0 points while shooting 54.6 percent from the field and 45.9 percent from 3-point range.

Chicago Bulls at Philadelphia 76ers (-6, 194)

Derrick Rose and Chicago have been struggling over the past week. Elton Brand had plenty of losing stretches with the Bulls, and he's yet to land with a consistent winner.

The Bulls and prized rookie Rose, concluding what has been a tough seven-game road trip, get their first look at former No. 1 overall pick Brand in his new home when they face the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday.

Chicago (7-9) went 33-49 last season, but got a fresh reason for hope when it won the draft lottery and selected Rose with the top pick in June.

Rose has been outstanding, averaging 18.4 points and 5.8 assists per game, but the Bulls continue to experience growing pains. Chicago has lost four of six since starting its trip on Nov. 18, and is 2-7 on the road this season.

Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro believes some of the reason for the Bulls' problems is his attempt to get Luol Deng back in the flow the past two games after missing three straight due to a hamstring injury.

"Part of the trip was trying to get Deng back in the rotation," Del Negro said. "I need to do a better job to get him more involved, early in the games especially, so hopefully his health will be good the next couple of days. But we need everybody right now, so we'll go from there."

Deng is one of nine former top 10 draft picks on the Bulls' roster, but none is more celebrated than Rose, who grew up in Chicago. The point guard has shown immense talent in his first 16 games, but is coming off one of his worst efforts.

Rose managed one basket in the second half of a 98-88 loss to San Antonio on Wednesday night, finishing with 10 points. He was outscored 19-10 by Spurs rookie guard George Hill, the 26th pick in the draft.

Edmonton Oilers at Dallas Stars (-125, 5.5)

Mired in last place in the Western Conference mere months after nearly advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals, Dallas Stars coach Dave Tippett hinted that changes might be coming in net.

With the team slumping and the goaltending situation shaky, Tippett's Stars host Edmonton on Sunday, looking to defeat the Oilers for the seventh straight time.

Dallas (7-11-4) lost for the fourth time in five games overall Friday, falling 6-2 to the San Jose Sharks. Marty Turco was pulled in favor of backup Tobias Stephan after allowing five goals on 19 shots in the first two periods. Loui Eriksson and James Neal each scored for the Stars, who are allowing an average of 4.1 goals in their last five games, during which they are 1-3-1.

"Our goaltending has to be better," Tippett said. "Our (penalty kill) has to keep pucks out. We have a lot of things we have to work on. We expect a lot more from certain players and that starts in goal with Marty."

Turco, who was 32-21-6 with a 2.31 goals-against average last season when the Stars lost in six games to Detroit in the Western Conference Finals, fell to 1-4-3 with a 4.37 GAA at home in 2008-09.

"It's disheartening," he told the Stars' official Web site. "I wanted to be able to do so much more and be the guy who turns it around. We've all got to do this together, we realize that, but we're just not ... We thought it could have been a big night for us, a big spark for us, but in fact, it was the total opposite."

If Turco continues to struggle, Stephan could see more ice time. After stopping 10 of 11 shots in the third period against the Sharks, Stephan is 1-1-0 with a 3.47 GAA in five games, including two starts.

Anaheim Ducks at Carolina Hurricanes (-108, 5.5)

Whether Jean-Sebastien Giguere or Jonas Hiller is in net, it seems to matter little for the Anaheim Ducks.

The two have combined to allow two goals in helping Anaheim win three straight heading into Sunday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

With Giguere back in his native Montreal attending to a personal matter, Hiller made 26 saves and earned his second career shutout - and second in his last four appearances - in a 1-0 victory Friday over visiting Chicago.

"Sometimes you have to be lucky," said Hiller, who had his first career shutout against Los Angeles on Nov. 16. "They had two or three open nets, and they missed all of them. All I did was try to put something there so the players had to think where they were going to shoot. Sometimes that's enough to make them miss the net."

Giguere is expected to rejoin the Ducks (13-8-3) Sunday in Carolina, but with the way Hiller has played of late, they might not need him.

The second-year goalie is 4-0-0 in his last six appearances and has stopped 131 of the last 138 shots he has faced. Hiller is also among the league leaders with a 2.07 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage.
