Saturday's College Basketball

Notes on the top games on today's card........

Creighton led Nebraska 47-20 at half LY, won 74-62; Bluejays lost by a hoop at Little Rock in last game, their first loss in four games (beat New Mexico by 7). Huskers won at TCU, beat Saint Louis; they're 4-0 so far. Big 12 home favorites are 9-7. MVC road underdogs are 1-3 vs spread.

Miami nipped Xavier by hoop LY, after being down 11 at half; Miami is 2-2, losing to UCLA, Pitt- they still haven't played a home game. Xavier has already beaten Missouri, Virginia Tech and Memphis in tournament last week- they're 5-0. A-14 home favorites are 5-9 against the spread.

Nevada lost at home to Pacific in its last game; Wolf Pack is 2-2, 1-1 on road, losing at San Diego, winning at Montana State. Portland is off to a 3-1 start with an upset of Washington. WAC favorites are 5-6 against the spread, 1-0 on road. WCC home underdogs are 3-1 against spread.

All five Rhode Island starters played either 30-31 minutes last night, in 77-72 win over decent Penn State team. Villanova's starters played from 28-31 minutes. URI lost by 3 at Duke after leading whole game. A-14 road dogs are 4-6 against spread. Big East home favorites are 11-10.

Hampton upset Portland State in OT last night to get to finals of Alaska Shootout; Pirates have three starters back from 18-12 team, are 3-2 with a win over George Mason. San Diego State is 4-1, losing 59-52 to really good Arizona State team. Mountain West road favorites are 4-2.

Texas Tech was 8-25 from arc last night, with three guys playing 27 min other two starters playing 37- Big 12 road dogs are 2-3. Mississippi St played ten guys 10+ minutes last night in a loss to Wazzu; Bulldogs are 5-1, best team they've beaten is St Bonaventure. SEC road favorites- 4-7.

Washington State forced 20 turnovers last night, holding Miss State to 52 points in their 5-0 start- they're allowing just 41.2 ppg. Pac-10 dogs are 3-3 vs spread. Pitt hammered Miami OH, they beat Texas Tech last night by 13-- Big East home favorites are 11-10 against the spread.

Dayton beat Auburn by point in OT Friday, despite going 0-24 behind the arc; Flyers are 5-0, beating collection of stiffs before last night- they are in deeper water vs guard-rich Marquette squad that beat Northern Iowa by 30 last night- they're 5-0 and haven't been threatened yet.

Illinois trailed Kent State almost whole game last night, but they finally won in OT; Illini are 5-0 with a win at Vanderbilt. Big 11 are just 3-4 vs spread on neutral floors. Tulsa beat Texas A&M pretty good last night; Hurricanes are 4-1, losing by 18 at Oklahoma State for their only loss.

Cal Bears beat UNLV by 18 last night, their fifth win in row to start the season (also beat Pacific, San Francisco). Pac-10 favorites are 5-4 vs the spread on neutral floors. Florida State rallied in second half to win last night in low-scoring game vs Cincinnati. ACC underdogs are 6-2.

Kentucky turned ball over 31 times last night, almost blew 17-point lead but hung on to beat Kansas State, raising record to 3-2. West Virginia is 4-0 after crushing Iowa Friday; they were up 19 at the half. Meeks had 36 for Wildcats last night-- he'll need some help from friends in this one.

Drake has third head coach in three years; they're 2-1 so far, losing 58-48 to Butler, then beating couple of stiffs-- this is their first road game, and in good place, Cancun. Vanderbilt lost 69-63 at home to Illinois- they're 3-1, with best win over Middle Tennessee. SEC favorites are 14-12.

New Mexico is 3-2, losing at home to Central Florida and at Creighton. Mountain West favorites are 4-1 vs spread away from home. VCU lost its last two games, allowing 92-93 points to Rhode Island, East Carolina. CAA underdogs are 9-11 against the spread.
