    Best games of 2008

    Nov. 28

West Virginia at Pittsburgh: Devine vs. McCoy. Stewart vs. Wannstedt. White vs. Pittsburgh's defense. West Virginia's psyche vs. itself. Just think if the Mountaineers need this to go to the BCS title game. Again.

    Nov. 29

Chase Daniel and Mizzou should have a lot riding on the outcome of the Kansas game.

Missouri vs. Kansas (in Kansas City, Mo.): The winner could be playing at Arrowhead two weeks in a row. Kansas City hosts the Big 12 championship game on Dec. 6. Nothing, though, can top last season's epic. The second-largest crowd in Arrowhead history watched Missouri win 36-28.

Auburn at Alabama: Tommy Tuberville is running out of hands to show the cameras how many times in a row he has won. (This article was written pre-season. It's now looking like Tuberville may never need even one hand again!)

    Dec. 6

South Florida at West Virginia: Jim Leavitt might -- just might -- admit this is a big game. The South Florida coach fell asleep during Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon. Not much phases him. The winner here should capture the Big East. Two top 10 Mountaineers' teams have played South Florida the past two years. Two top 10 Mountaineers teams have come out losers. The tough Bulls' D has shut down West Virginia's running game.

USC at UCLA: Rick Neuheisel is Tabasco. This rivalry, lately has been rice cakes. In other words, USC-UCLA needs a little Ricky Tabasco.

Western Michigan at #15 Ball State [ESPN2 | 7 PM ET]

Western Michigan: The Broncos believe they might be catching Ball State in a bit of a letdown spot after a big win at Central Michigan last week. The Cardinals have another dangerous foe here that is certainly capable of beating them if that turns out to be the case. Quarterback Tim Hiller leads the conference with 3,382 passing yards - including five straight 300 yard games - to go along with 33 touchdowns. “I think our kids are feeling pretty good about it,” Western Michigan head coach Bill Cubit said. “I mean, Ball State’s undefeated. So I think the challenge there is pretty good.”

Western Michigan is 9-1 SU in its last 10 games overall.
The UNDER is 3-0 in Western Michigan's last 3 games overall.

Key Injuries - RB Brandon West (ankle) is questionable.
DB Londen Fryar (ankle) is questionable.

          PROJECTED SCORE: 21

Ball State (-11, O/U 54.5): The Cardinals remain focused on winning the MAC first and foremost above everything else even though there is still talk around the college football world about an unbeaten season and a potential BCS bid. “Our goal has been to win the championship since we came here in 2003, so when we meet at the beginning of the year, we talk about our expectations and what investment we’re going to make as a team,” Ball State head coach Brady Hoke said. “Believe me, it’s been a conversation. But I like our team because of how they care about each other and how they play for each other, and that’s what we’re going to do on Tuesday.”

Ball State is 15-3 ATS in its last 18 games vs. teams with a winning record.
The UNDER is 7-1 in Ball State's last 8 November games.

Key Injuries - WR Dante Love (back) is OUT.

PROJECTED SCORE: 35 (Side Play of the Day)

Texas A&M at #2 Texas [ESPN | 8 PM ET]

Texas A&M: The Aggies may have beaten Texas in the last two meetings, but the guy who engineered those wins will be watching this game from the sidelines. Senior QB Stephen McGee scored the game-winning touchdown two years ago and then threw for 362 yards and three TDs last season. McGee will miss his ninth straight start due to a sprained shoulder. “It’s evident in watching those games that the entire A&M football team played at another level,” Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman said. “I think Stephen, certainly being the leader, was a big contributor to the fact that not only did he play well but I think he motivated others to do the same.”

Texas A&M is 3-0 ATS in the last 3 meetings.
The OVER is 8-1 in Texas A&M's last 9 conference games.

Key Injuries - OL Robbie Frost (concussion) is questionable.

PROJECTED SCORE: 20 (Side Play of the Day)

Texas (-35, O/U 68.5): The Longhorns have to win this game big if they have any hopes of remaining in the #2 spot in the BCS rankings after this week. Oklahoma plays a tougher opponent in Oklahoma State on Saturday and would likely leapfrog Texas with an impressive victory. But Texas head coach Mack Brown knows his team can't overlook the Aggies, who they've lost each of the last couple years. “You’ve got to give the BCS credit,” Brown said. “They’ve got more talk about college football than ever before. Sitting here and talking about (the BCS) is disrespectful to A&M. The only input we can have is to play well Thursday night.”

Texas is 9-3 ATS in its last 12 games overall.
The OVER is 8-2 in Texas' last 10 conference games.

Key Injuries - FB Luke Tiemann (knee) is OUT.
TE Blaine Irby (knee) is OUT.

Fresno State at #9 Boise State [ESPN2 | 6 PM ET]

Fresno State: The Bulldogs essentially earned a bowl invite last week with a 24-10 win at San Jose State and will now try to beat Boise for just the second time in eight meetings since the Broncos joined the WAC in 2001. Fresno has lost the last three meetings at Boise by an average of 29 points and simply wants to finish the season strong. “We just know that we’re going to a bowl,” Bulldogs RB Anthony Harding said. “That’s what is important to us right now. Obviously we didn’t get our WAC championship or BCS run, but there’s still a game left and we can finish on a high note.”

Fresno is 10-28 ATS in its last 38 overall.
The UNDER is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.

Key Injuries - WR Devon Wylie (undisclosed) is questionable.
FB Isaac Kinter (leg) is questionable.
S Marvin Haynes (back) is questionable.
RB Ryan Matthews (knee) is doubtful.
DL Jon Monga (foot) is OUT.

                        PROJECTED SCORE: 14

Boise State (-21, O/U 56.5): The Broncos have won 48 straight home games during the regular season and are expected to finish up unbeaten again for the third time in five years. Where they go from here remains to be seen though, as the team is still hoping to receive a BCS bid. “The season is not over,” Boise State head coach Chris Petersen said. “To take that WAC trophy feels very, very good, but we’ve got a game next week and it will be a big one. It’s always a big game with Fresno.”

Boise State is 9-3 ATS in its last 12 Friday games.
Boise State is 6-2-1 ATS in its last 9 games overall.

Key Injuries - S Jeron Johnson (leg) is questionable.
OL Cory Yriarte (knee) is questionable.

#22 Georgia Tech at #11 Georgia [CBS | 12 PM ET]

Georgia Tech: The Yellow Jackets are hoping to win the ACC Coastal Division but won't have much control over that outcome in this game. They need Virginia to beat Virginia Tech in order for that to happen and will instead be looking to end a seven-game series losing streak to Georgia in this intrastate rivalry. “This is a good year to do it,” Georgia Tech fullback Lucas Cox said. “I think we’re prepared. I think we’re a good team. I think we’re going to go in and do it.”

Georgia Tech is 6-2-1 ATS in its last 9 games overall.
The UNDER is 29-14-1 in Georgia Tech's last 44 games on grass.

Key Injuries - RB Jonathan Dwyer (knee) is probable.
CB Dominique Reese (knee) is doubtful.
LB Sedric Griffin (knee) is doubtful.

                          PROJECTED SCORE: 20

Georgia (-8, O/U 48.5): The Bulldogs have surrendered an average of 167.4 rushing yards per game in their last five and face the challenge of stopping one of the nation's top running games. “I’m pretty sure it’s enough time because football is football, no matter what formation somebody is in,” Georgia defensive tackle Corvey Irvin said. “If you practice enough and you game plan, it can be stopped. I mean, I’m pretty sure it can be stopped because they’re not undefeated. I’m not saying that to be cocky or anything, but it can be stopped.”

Georgia is 7-1-1 ATS in its last 9 games vs. ACC.
The UNDER is 3-1 in the last 4 meetings.

Key Injuries - TE Tripp Chandler (knee) is probable.
LB Darius Dewberry (hip) is doubtful.
OL Justin Anderson (foot) is doubtful.

                          PROJECTED SCORE: 28

#4 Florida at #20 Florida State [ABC | 3:30 PM ET]

Florida (-16.5, O/U 57.5): The Gators have won the last four meetings with the Seminoles and clearly need another victory here in order to stay in the hunt for the BCS championship game. Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow was the difference last year, and Florida State definitely respects his presence in the game. “The thing about him that I always thought was very unique is that he always seemed to have that ‘it’ factor,” Seminoles offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher said. “There have been some guys that are maybe as tough, but you don’t see it because they don’t run that style of offense.”

Florida is 16-5 ATS in its last 21 games on grass.
The UNDER is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings.

Key Injuries - LB AJ Jones (knee) is probable.
DT Lawrence Marsh (knee) is questionable.

PROJECTED SCORE: 41 (OVER - Total Play of the Day)

Florida State: Seminoles defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews is not looking forward to facing Florida's offense, which has averaged 63 points in the last two games. “If you had your druthers you’d probably rather be on a creek bank or somewhere than try and defend a team as talented as they are,” Andrews said. “It’ll take our best effort of the year to even have a chance.” Florida State knows a strong start is needed to keep the team in the game while limiting turnovers could also be the difference in the game. The Gators lead the nation in turnover margin at +18.

Home team is 11-3 ATS in the last 14 meetings.
The UNDER is 19-8 in Florida State's last 27 November games.

Key Injuries - CB Darius McClure (leg) is OUT.

                          PROJECTED SCORE: 24

#3 Oklahoma at #12 Oklahoma State [ABC | 8 PM ET]

Oklahoma (-7, O/U 72): The Sooners have averaged 59.2 points and 598 yards during a five-game winning streak since losing to Texas, and they seem very focused on another strong performance here. They will likely need another big win if they hope to jump past Texas into the #2 spot in the BCS standings. “Obviously, now we’re in the mix with everybody,” Sooners coach Bob Stoops said. “With the way we played, you would think ahead. The logic of whether to put us in front of Texas? If you can’t do that because they beat us, then you’ve got to keep Texas Tech in front of Texas. What’s logical for one is logical for the other.”

Oklahoma is 8-2 ATS in its last 10 games overall.
The OVER is 10-1 in Oklahoma's last 11 games overall.

Key Injuries - DE Auston English (knee) is doubtful.
DE Alan Davis (knee) is doubtful.

                          PROJECTED SCORE: 38

Oklahoma State: The Cowboys have lost the last two meetings with Oklahoma in Stillwater by a combined nine points, and they will trying to duplicate their performance in 2001 when they ended the Sooners' BCS title hopes with a 16-13 victory. “I think they know that they just can’t come in here and manhandle us and we know that we have just as good a chance of winning as they do now, so it isn’t as one-sided and it makes for a better game,” Oklahoma State fullback Bryant Ward said. “We both come in more ready to play, we both prepare harder and I think it gives a better show.”

Oklahoma State is 9-2 ATS in its last 11 games overall.
The OVER is 28-8 in Oklahoma State's last 36 home games.

Key Injuries - RB Kendall Hunter (quad) is probable.

PROJECTED SCORE: 34 (Side Play of the Day)
