      Sunday, November 23

      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pick 'n' Roll: Sunday's best NBA bets
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Minnesota Timberlwolves at Detroit Pistons (-10.5, 188.5)

Timberwolves leading scorer Al Jefferson had 23 points against Boston Friday, but the rest of the team's starting lineup combined for just 19 as the team shot 31.3 percent. Randy Foye was just 2-of-12 from the field, scoring four points, and is shooting under 35 percent this season.

Jefferson has scored at least 20 points in six consecutive games, but Minnesota has won just once over that span (4-2 ATS).

He had 30 points at Detroit last April 15, but the Wolves still lost 115-103 even though the Pistons' starters played limited minutes while resting for the playoffs. Detroit also won 94-90 at Minnesota on April 1 - without Billups, Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace - to sweep the season series.

      Pick: Pistons -10.5

Sacramento Kings at Los Angeles Lakers (-16.5, 209)

Los Angeles (10-1, 8-3 ATS), off to its best start since winning its last title in 2001-02, opened a five-game homestand with a 104-90 victory Friday over Denver - its third straight win overall. The Lakers hit 14-of-21 from the field in the first quarter and led by as many as 27 points in the second as all five starters played less than 30 minutes.

"It's about taking care of business. That is how we push it," said Kobe Bryant. "It's a push against the clock. I think it shows the business attitude that we have, as well as depth. I wanted to do a little more service, especially in these sleeper games."

Bryant, who is logging five minutes less per game than last season, when he averaged 38.9 minutes, and the Lakers' starters have had plenty of time to rest in 2008-09. Los Angeles has the NBA's second-ranked scoring offense at 104.8 points per game, and the third-best scoring defense, allowing just 91.3 per game.

      Pick: Lakers -16.5

        --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ice picks: Sunday's best NHL bets
        --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nashville Predators (+127) at Carolina Hurricanes (-137)

Now that Carolina's Eric Staal has broken out of his scoring drought, the Hurricanes are hoping it won't take another two weeks for him to score again.

Staal and the Hurricanes look to win their fourth straight when they host the Nashville Predators on Sunday.

Staal recorded his fifth career hat trick after scoring three goals in less than 24 minutes in Carolina's 5-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Friday. The Hurricanes' highest paid player hadn't scored since Nov. 2 when he recorded an empty-net goal against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He had two game-tying goals on Friday and put the Hurricanes (11-7-2) ahead with his eighth goal of the season late in the second period.

"It's about burying your head, working hard, not changing your game, getting to those areas where goals are scored - and for me, goals are scored in the front of the net and those traffic areas," said Staal, who has 13 points for the season. "Eventually, they were going to fall - I knew that."

Staal had gone eight games without a goal - his longest drought since he went nine without one in 2006-07.

The Hurricanes have won three straight after dropping their previous three in a row while allowing 13 goals. Carolina has given up five goals in the last three games, with Cam Ward in net for all of them.

        Pick: Hurricanes -137

New Jersey Devils (-101) at Tampa Bay Lightning (-109)

The Devils (10-7-2) have tied a season high with three straight wins, with Patrik Elias totaling three goals and four assists. He has a goal and an assist in each of his last two games versus the Lightning. Brian Gionta has scored in three straight games - he also has two assists in that span - and has four goals in his last three games at Tampa.

Lightning forwards Vincent Lecavalier and Steve Eminger each has four points over the last three games (1-0-2) for the Lightning.

"Our last three games, I think, we've had a lot of energy," said Lecavalier, who leads the team with nine goals and 15 points.

The Lightning could be short-handed again after center Chris Gratton (lower body) and left wing Gary Roberts (upper body) sat out Friday. Ryan Malone, who had three assists, left in the second period due to soreness after missing the previous four games with a lower-body injury.

        Pick: Devils -101

Chicago Bulls at Denver Nuggets [9 PM ET]

Bulls: Chicago is coming off its first road win of the season and avoided a major scare in the process. The Bulls pulled off a 115-110 win at Golden State on Friday, improving to 1-2 on their current seven-game road trip. Rookie point guard Derrick Rose scored 23 of his 25 points in the second half, including 12 in the fourth quarter before leaving in the final minutes with a hip injury. “Man, it was a sharp pain that was there for a long time, but I’m all right now,” Rose said. “I’ve just got to ice it and massage it tomorrow. I’m not missing (Sunday’s game at Denver).”

Bulls are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
The OVER is 16-7-2 in Chicago's last 25 road games.

Key Injuries - G Derrick Rose (hip) is probable.
F Luol Deng (hamstring) is questionable.

                PROJECTED SCORE: 99

Nuggets (-7.5, O/U 205): Denver will be seeking its fifth straight home win and has not lost at the Pepsi Center since acquiring point guard Chauncey Billups. One Nugget who has struggled lately is Carmelo Anthony, who is averaging just 16.3 points on 33.7 percent shooting in his last six games. “I think it’s very difficult to be a star when defenses are designed and manipulated to take you out and stop you from being successful,” Denver head coach George Karl said. “Right now we’re not getting a lot of opportunities for him. He’s taking a lot of tough shots and getting frustrated over the shot selection. I think he’s got to be patient and work with us, and we’ll figure out how to help him gain more success.”

Nuggets are 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings.
The OVER is 19-7 in Denver's last 26 games vs. Central Division.

Key Injuries - C Chris Andersen (ribs) is OUT.

                PROJECTED SCORE: 106
