Pick 'n' Roll: Tuesday's best NBA bets
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chicago Bulls at Los Angeles Lakers (-12.5, 196)
Chicago will not be competing for a conference crown this season but the future looks bright for the new look baby Bulls.
The emergence of rookie guard Derrick Rose as an NBA star happened quicker than most people expected. Rose, who is second on the team in scoring with more than 18 points a night, became the first Bulls’ rookie since Michael Jordan in 1984 to score in double digits in each of his first 10 games.
“I’m not [comparable] to him,” Rose told the Chicago Tribune. “I'm not even near him right now. I’m too far away. For me to do that, it’s nice. But I'm worried about winning.”
Rose may not be the reincarnation of Jordan but he has helped Chicago to its first winning streak of the young season. Since opening the year with a 3-5 record, the Bulls have rattled off two straight wins.
The Lakers are coming off their first setback of the year, a home loss to the Detroit Pistons. Los Angeles shot 42 percent against Detroit and allowed the Pistons to shoot 52 percent from the field.
Pick: Bulls
Portland Trail Blazers at Golden State Warriors (-1, 203.5)
Golden State lost energetic point guard Baron Davis this past summer but you wouldn't know it by looking at the team’s recent box scores. The Warriors are ranked second in the league in scoring with more than 104 points a night but their 4-6 record shows just how much the team misses Davis and injured guard Monta Ellis.
''We're without a starting point guard," Nelson told reporters. "Baron Davis was our best player. I think we have a good backup in C.J., but you're throwing him to the wolves when you start him. Baron's left a void for us in the way we like to play, push the ball, create and run screen rolls, so it's been quite a change.''
Despite its high-octane offense, Golden State will have trouble outlasting the Trail Blazers, the NBA's second youngest club. (Golden State is actually the youngest with an average age of 23.6). Unlike the Warriors, Portland actually plays defense and is limiting its opponents to 96 points a game. Golden State is ranked last in the NBA in team defense, giving up more than 105 points a game.
Golden State center Andris Biedrins is having a breakout season and is averaging more than 16 points and 14 rebounds a night. Biedrins will be hard pressed to match his averages against a Blazers frontcourt that includes No. 1 draft pick Greg Oden and LaMarcus Aldridge.
Pick: Trail Blazers
