Cincinnati (-3.5, O/U 48): The Bearcats are coming off a pair of character-building wins as underdogs against ranked Big East opponents and now see the roles reversed. They find themselves as road favorites just like South Florida when the Bulls visited Cincinnati nearly two weeks ago. Cincy pulled off the 24-10 upset and then followed that up with a 26-23 win at West Virginia in overtime last week. “A lesser team would’ve folded under those circumstances,” Bearcats head coach Brian Kelly said after his team blew a 20-7 halftime lead but still prevailed in OT. “It was just a great football game, one that we knew that we had to win if we wanted to talk about being a Big East contender.”

Favorite is 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings.
The OVER is 9-3-1 in Cincinnati's last 13 road games.
C Chris Jurek (undisclosed) is questionable.

Louisville: The Cardinals have won nine of the last 10 meetings with the Bearcats, although the last two games have been decided by a combined 10 points. Like Cincinnati, Louisville also beat a ranked South Florida team before suffering consecutive disappointing losses at Syracuse and Pitt. Now the Cards are back home as an underdog looking for just one more victory to become bowl eligible. “We’re 5-4 and two weeks ago everybody loved us - now, nobody loves us,” Louisville head coach Steve Kragthorpe said. “That’s the nature of this business and the nature of football.”

Louisville is 21-9 ATS in its last 30 home games.

Thursday's Games

Buffalo won its last three games, scoring 32 ppg; they're 5-4 and get to a bowl with 2-1 finish (and probably lose their coach to a bigger school in the process). Bulls finally beat Akron LY, 26-10, but lost last two trips to Rubber Bowl, 44-21/31-16. Zips scored 42-47 points in winning last two games, but they've lost three of four at home. MAC home sides are 13-21 vs spread in league games. 9-14 when favored.

Virginia Tech won four of last five vs Miami, winning last two visits to South Beach, 16-10/17-10 ('canes have moved little north to Dolphins' Stadium this year). Hokies lost last two road games; they're 1-3 if they allow 27+ points, 5-0 if they don't. Miami won its last four games, with three wins by six or less points, or in OT, despite being -5 in turnovers in those games. ACC favorites are just 14-19 against the spread.

UNLV lost last four games vs Wyoming, with Cowboys winning its last two visits to Strip, 53-45ot/34-26. Cowboys won at Tennessee and can still get to bowl if they win out, which is odd since Glenn was rumored to be on way out. Rebels upset New Mexico last week, snapping skid at five losses in row. Wyoming allowed 17 points in last two games, after they had allowed average of 40.8 ppg in previous four games. Mountain West home sides are 20-10 vs spread, 10-5 when favored.

Friday's Game
Louisville won its last five games vs. Cincinnati, with Bearcats losing last two visits here, 70-7/23-17, but now UC is better program, going 7-2 despite using four different QB's this season- they've also won three of four on road since losing at Oklahoma. Cardinals lost 41-7 last week, and at Syracuse the week before, so they're struggling (5-4) once again. Big East dogs are 13-4 this season, though, 6-1 at home. Bearcats are staggering 7 for last 48 on 3rd down.

Saturday's Games

Michigan won its last five games vs. Northwestern by average score of 32-13; Wildcats run same offense Wolverines do- underdog is 4-0 vs. spread in their road games this year, with Northwestern winning 24-20 at Duke, 22-17 at Iowa, 24-17 at Minnesota, but losing 21-19 at Indiana. Wolverines snapped five-game skid by winning at Minnesota last week- six of their last eight games went over the total. Big 11 home teams are 12-22 vs. spread, 8-11 if favored.

Wisconsin won its last four games vs. Minnesota; Gophers lost last two visits to Madison, 38-14/48-12- Badgers had 325 rushing yards in this game LY. Minnesota scored 17-17-6 points in last three games, after averaging 29 pg in six D-I games before that. Badgers won last two of last three games and blew 4th-quarter lead at Michigan State in the other- they have 724 rushing yards in last two games, a good sign.

Navy ended 43-year losing streak to Notre Dame LY, go for two in row here; Weis will call plays for Irish, since OC will miss time this week (funeral)- they've lost three of last four games, were shut out in Boston last week, after averaging 24.5 pg in four games before that. Navy won five of its last six games, but needed OT to beat Temple in last game- in their three losses, Middies allowed 35-41-42 points, so Clausen better have good day.

Vanderbilt was once 5-0, is now 5-4, still needs sixth win that would make them bowl eligible for first time in 26 years, but, they've lost four games in row vs. Kentucky, losing last two visits here, 14-13/38-26. Wildcats are 2-4 in last six games, with both wins by a single point- they're 2-4 vs. spread in last six tries as a favorite. Vandy is 5-1 vs. spread as a dog this season. SEC home favorites are 6-13 against the spread.

Texas' defense has allowed 30 pg in last five weeks, so tough schedule may have worn them down some, but Kansas has allowed 45+ points in three of last four games, so they aren't much better. Longhorns won last visit here 27-23, but that was in '04- they're 3-1 away from home TY, winning 45-13 at UTEP, 38-14 at Colorado, 45-35 vs. Oklahoma in Dallas, losing 39-33 in Lubbock. Big 12 home dogs are 6-10 vs. the spread.

Visitor won last five Cal-Oregon State games, with Bears winning last two visits to Corvallis, 49-7/41-13; Cal lost its last three road games (Maryland-Arizona-USC)- they go back to Riley as starting QB here, as Tedford can't seem to get quality play out of either kid. Beavers won last four games, covered six of last seven; they're 4-0 at home TY, 4-1 vs. spread in last five tries as favorite. Pac-10 home faves are 12-5.

Arizona got its sixth win last week, is bowl eligible, so Stoops is probably off hot seat; that said, they'd just as soon keep winning. Wildcats are 2-0 as dog this season, 2-2 on road- their losses are 36-28 at New Mexico, 24-23 at Stanford, 17-10 vs. USC- in last three games, they've allowed just 115 rushing yards/game. Oregon is stressing the run with backup QB's playing- they've run ball for 267.5 ypg in last four contests.

Air Force won its last five games, holding last three foes to 10-7-17 points; they've run ball for 227+ yards in five of last six games, but lost last four games vs. BYU, as Cougars won last two visits here, 41-24/33-14. Since getting waxed at TCU, BYU won its last three games, scoring 42.7 pg, but struggling to beat Colorado State (45-42), UNLV (42-35). Mountain West home dogs are 10-5 against the spread.

South Carolina won six of last seven games, actually alternated QB's by play last week, an old Spurrier tactic; Gamecocks are 2-1 on road, with all three games decided by exactly seven points. Florida won, covered five in row since Ole Miss loss, winning by average score of 48-11- they've outscored opponents 195-23 in first half this season, even leading Ole Miss 17-7 in game they lost. SEC home favorites are 6-13.

Tulsa pounded Houston 56-7 LY, after losing previous two games vs. Cougars- Tulsa has had two weeks since losing at Arkansas, its first loss of year- they're 5-0 in C-USA, with only one win by less than 23 points. Houston won four of last five games, scoring 41+ points in all four wins; they're 0-4 this year when scoring less than 41, but they're -6 in turnovers the last two weeks, with no takeaways. C-USA home dogs are 9-5 vs. spread.

Stanford upset USC LY in greatest pointspread upset (42 point dog) in college history; they were +4 in turnovers in game they trailed 9-09 at half. Cardinal had lost previous four series games by average score of 42-17. Stanford covered six of last seven games overall; their losses this year are by 24-17-7-3-7 points (5-2 vs. spread as dog. ) USC is 2-2 as road favorite this year. Pac-10 home dogs are 7-6 vs. spread.

Boston College shut Notre Dame out last week, Bobby Bowden's Seminoles beat the team that fired his son, so both sides due for flat spot here; road team won all three series games, with BC winning last visit here, 24-19 (+7). Florida State won five of last six games, is 3-1 as home favorite this year. Eagles are just 6 for last 32 on 3rd down, and had allowed average of 31.5 pg in four games before shutting Notre Dame out last week.

LSU lost to Nick Saban's Crimson Tide last week, now has makeup game vs. hungry Troy squad that won four of last five games since getting smoked by Oklahoma State (Les Miles' old team) 55-24 (Troy also lost 28-10 at Ohio State). Tigers completed just 39% of passes in last two games, need to work on that here. SEC home favorites are 11-10 as non-league home favorites. Troy covered seven of last nine vs. SEC teams.

Quick-hitting knowledge for rest of card

-- Indiana lost seven of last eight games, didn't cover any of the losses. Penn State ran 15 plays in red zone at Iowa last week, gained just 39 yards, which is why they lost.

-- Home side won four of last five Purdue-Iowa games, with Boilers losing last two visits to Iowa, 23-21/47-17. Purdue covered one of last five games as the underdog.

-- Wake Forest won four of last five vs. NC State (dog 4-1 vs. spread); Deacons are 4-0 if they score 28+ points, but scored total of 10 points in losing their last two road games. Wolfpack covered four in row, six of last seven games.

-- Arizona State won 39-19 at winless Washington week ago, their first win in last seven games. Washington State is winless in Pac-10, losing by 63-49-25-53-69-58-31 points. You can make case for them as the worst team in the history of Pac-10 football.

-- Western Kentucky won 20-17 at Middle Tennessee LY; Hilltoppers are 0-8 vs D-I opponents this year, losing home games by 17-4-11 pts. MTSU is 0-5 on road this season., allowing 33.5 ppg in last four games on foreign soil- they've only turned ball over once in last three games.

-- Florida Atlantic lost last three games vs UL-Lafayette, 28-10/6-0 and 39-32 in OT LY; Owls won last three games, scoring 33 ppg; they have shot to go bowling despite a -11 turnover ratio this year. ULL won four of last five games, covering its last four conference contests.

-- UL-Monroe beat Alabama LY, so Ole Miss better not sleep on them, with trip to LSU on deck. At 5-4, Rebels need this win and win in Egg Bowl to go bowling. Monroe covered its last three games, which were won by combined total of five points.
