  • Hot Stove - Holliday to A's

    A bit of a shocker...

Matt Holliday appears headed to the Oakland Athletics in a deal with the Colorado Rockies, baseball sources have told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick and Buster Olney.

Final details are being finalized, though the teams have agreed to terms, a baseball source told Olney.

The deal isalso pending completion of physical exams.

Although the package coming back to Colorado has yet to be determined, it's believed that pitcher Greg Smith was one of the players under discussion.

How are they going to pay for him? The A's aren't a team that keeps high salaried players....

I just saw this link on espn and my jaw dropped....does anyone think the A's will turn around and deal holliday elsewhere for a package of prospects they've had their eye on? I just dont see how holliday fits in with the A's ..

who cares about your pay pal 3J what the fuck are the rockies and a's up too here ?

Pitcher Greg Smith, who was 7-16 with a 4.16 ERA last season for the A's, is one of the players in the deal, a source confirmed to Crasnick. Among the other players who have been discussed were left-handed pitcher Brett Anderson and outfielders Ryan Sweeney and Carlos Gonzalez

No doubt. These are the guys Billy Beane typically gets rid of for prospects, not the other way around. Maybe he turns around to send him to the Cards? Thought that was his likely landing spot...

So true...except I blew Wayne off and that's unacceptable for someone who puts all these pools and leagues together.

No clue...I know nothing about any of the prospeects the A's ar ementioned as giving up but I know Holliday can hit....

No one knows their own prospects better than Billy Beane and the A's...I'd love to see Holliday moved to LA now that he's out of the NL west, but I highly doubt that will happen...Pujols would be un-pitchable with Holliday protecting him in the lineup...but imagine all the stats jack cust can produce with holliday in oakland

Sometimes Beane makes trades like only to unload prospects he has that he doesn't like and than he trades that player away to another team for prospects he does like. He knows his shit, and he's a smart business. Holliday has huge value, even if he's only a month away from being a free agent, say at the end of this year, and Beane knows that.

A source told Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown that the Rockies would get Carlos Gonzalez, Huston Street and Greg Smith from the A's for Matt Holliday....
