The NBA is very hard early and to be honest I tend to struggle the first few weeks of the year. Nonetheless, I have some opinions on which teams are undervalued because their improvement hasn't been accepted by the betting public. My plays tonight are on this angle.
1* Heat +3
Miami is the most improved team in the league but that's stating the obvious. To go from the worst record in the league to a likely playoff team is a huge step up. They are essentially adding Dwyane wade and Kevin Beasley and now have Shawn Marion with a full camp behind him. As for the Knicks, they will be much better too but they are making a radical change in offense to D'Antoni's style and it may take awhile
1* Bucks +3
Milwaukee has a game under its belt (a loss last night to the much imrpoved Bulls). The Bucks are tons better than last year with a much better coach, a point guard who understands his role and a massive upgrade from Yi to Richard Jefferson. Skiles' teams historically start slow but they should be able to win this one against an Oklahmoa City team with a bad coach and the same talent as last year's miserable Seattle team.
1* Jazz -7 1/2
Here's your NBA champions, in my opinion. Utah has a great coach and a lineup filled with players who have now worked together for several seasons. Denver, in the meantime, is a disaster with the same malcontents. George Karl's teams tend to disintegrate after a few years and the Nuggets are unlikely to be a playoff team. While Deron Willaims starts the year on the DL, denver is without Carmelo Anthony so it's a wash.
Opinion only:
Spurs (Suns will be much worse with a huge dropoff in coaching)
