Milwaukee at New York (-5.5, 214.5)
The story for the New York Knicks through two games under new coach Mike D'Antoni is more about who has yet to take the court, than about who is actually playing.
D'Antoni has shown he is not afraid to bench the Knicks' high-priced players as he gets ready to coach his third game for New York on Sunday against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Hired to turn around a franchise that has suffered through seven straight losing seasons, D'Antoni has yet to give point guard Stephon Marbury and center Eddy Curry any minutes thus far. Marbury, who will earn close to $22 million in the final year of his contract, was placed on the inactive list for Friday's 116-87 loss at Philadelphia.
"This is the direction we're going and there will be some nights like this," D'Antoni said of Marbury. "If I was playing everything for tonight, you'd do things differently. But we're trying to build a base for going forward."
With Marbury and Curry sitting, the Knicks (1-1) have given players such as Wilson Chandler and Mardy Collins extended playing time. Those two combined for 18 points on Friday, but most of that was after the game was decided as New York shot 32.7 percent (32-of-98) from the field.
"I am not happy about any of this and neither are the players, but you have to be realistic and knowing this year is going to be a lot of work and its our goal to play hard every night and learn from it," D'Antoni said. "It's not going to be a Cinderella story, we are going to have to work and there are going to be nights like this, but we will bounce back and Sunday at the Garden we will be ready."
The Knicks won their first game at home, 120-115 over Miami on Wednesday. They placed six players in double figures, including a 17-point effort by Chandler off the bench.
New York has won five of seven meetings against Milwaukee over the last two seasons, including all three at Madison Square Garden.
Pick: New York - Loss
Minnesota at Oklahoma City (-2, 191.5)
Almost 19 years ago, the Seattle SuperSonics prevented the Minnesota Timberwolves from winning their first NBA game.
Minnesota will try to return the favor on Sunday in Oklahoma City when it faces the Thunder franchise that relocated from Seattle during the offseason.
While their franchise's first regular-season game - a 106-94 loss at Seattle on Nov. 3, 1989 - is just a memory, the Timberwolves' 95-85 loss to Dallas on Saturday is not.
Coming off a 98-96 win against Sacramento on Wednesday where it held off a fourth-quarter rally, Minnesota (1-1) couldn't put together one of their own against the Mavericks.
Rashad McCants, who scored 18 points in 27 minutes off the bench, sank two free throws with 11:41 left to pull the Wolves within 67-65, but Dallas scored 13 of the next 17 points and never relinquished the lead.
"It's just a matter of trusting at both ends of the floor,'' Minnesota coach Randy Wittman said. "And when we do that, we're pretty good. And when we don't, we look really, really bad.''
The Wolves' Al Jefferson posted his second straight double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, but rookie Kevin Love followed his 12-point, nine-rebound NBA debut with nine points and three rebounds in 23 minutes.
Minnesota outrebounded Dallas 42-38, and for a period beginning in the late-first quarter, scored 36 consecutive points in the lane or at the foul line.
Pick: Minnesota - Loss

Pick 'n' Roll: Monday's best NBA bets
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cleveland at Dallas (-3, 191.5)
The Cleveland Cavaliers relied primarily on their defense to win games last season, but an offseason acquisition was expected to provide more offensive help alongside LeBron James.
Right now, it's James who's looking to regain his scoring touch.
The league's reigning scoring champion will try to break out of his offensive funk on Monday night when the Cavaliers travel to Texas to face the Dallas Mavericks, who are looking to build off their first win of the season.
A summer trade for point guard Mo Williams, who averaged 17.2 points last season with Milwaukee, was expected to give Cleveland (1-2) another shooter and potential distributor to feed James, who averaged 30.0 points in 2007-08 to win the league's scoring crown.
Williams is averaging just 13.3 points through three games, but it's been James' struggles that have been the primary reason for the Cavaliers only scoring 91.0 points per game thus far. After shooting a career-high 48.4 percent last season, James is averaging 19.7 points on 43.1 percent shooting.
James went 6-of-15 and scored only 15 points on Saturday in Cleveland's 104-92 loss at New Orleans.
"I never really got into a comfortable zone all night tonight,'' said James, who is 0-for-9 from 3-point range this season. "We still were in the game going into the fourth quarter. But late in the game, I never got into it.'
Pick: Cavs - Win
Chicago at Orlando (-7, 196)
Rookie Derrick Rose is coming off his best game with Chicago (2-1), scoring a career-best 26 points in a 96-86 win over Memphis on Saturday. The point guard, who was 11-of-20 from the field and added six rebounds and three assists, leads rookies with 18.3 points per game.
"All I'm trying to do is win the game," Rose said. "If that takes me to score 20 some points or five points it doesn't matter as long as we win."
Coach Vinny Del Negro said he's looking for more from Rose, who led Memphis to the NCAA championship game last season, as he tries to get the Bulls to be more aggressive offensively.
"He's so athletic and he can get to the basket and finish," Del Negro said. "I told him when he comes off the pick and roll and they let off him to let it fly. He had more control of the game tonight and I think it will continue to get better. He competes."
The Bulls didn't do that against the Magic last season, dropping all four matchups and getting outscored by an average of 22.0 points in the final three games.
To avoid a fifth straight loss, Chicago needs to improve its shooting. The Bulls shot a league-low 43.5 percent from the field last season, and after hitting 50.7 percent in a victory over Milwaukee in their season opener, shot 29.8 percent in a 16-point loss at Boston on Friday and 38.1 percent against the Grizzlies on Saturday.
Pick: Magic - Loss
YTD: 4-8

Chicago Bulls at Orlando Magic [7 PM ET]
Bulls: Chicago rookie point guard Derrick Rose is coming off the best performance of his young career, scoring 26 points in a 96-86 win over Memphis on Saturday. "All I’m trying to do is win the game," Rose said. "If that takes me to score 20 some points or five points it doesn’t matter as long as we win." The Bulls are hoping Rose can help them avoid a fifth straight loss to the Magic, who won all four meetings last season by an average of 17 points.
Bulls are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
The UNDER is 8-2 in Chicago's last 10 games overall.
Key Injuries - G Larry Hughes (shoulder ) is OUT.
PROJECTED SCORE: 92
Magic (-7, O/U 196): Orlando finally turned in a good offensive performance after averaging 84.5 points in losing its first two games. The Magic exploded in a 121-103 win over Sacramento on Saturday, shooting 55 percent from the field with all five starters scoring in double figures. "This was good for our confidence," Orlando head coach Stan Van Gundy said. "People don’t realize how fragile confidence can be. They think when you hit the major league level, confidence is a given because you have so much success, but a couple of bad nights and all the sudden you’re pressing."
Magic are 2-6 SU in their last 8 games overall.
The UNDER is 8-2 in Orlando's last 10 games vs. Central Division.
Key Injuries - NONE
PROJECTED SCORE: 103 (Side Play of the Day)
Cleveland Cavaliers at Dallas Mavericks [8:30 PM ET]
Cavs: Cleveland star LeBron James is coming off his worst shooting performance of the season and only made it to the free-throw line four times in a 104-92 loss at New Orleans on Saturday. James did dish out a season-high 13 assists, but he still has not made a 3-pointer this year, going 0-for-9 from long range. Another problem offensively for the Cavs is that new point guard Mo Williams continues to struggle with his shot as well. Williams was 5-for-15 against the Hornets and finished with 11 points.
Cavs are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
The UNDER is 15-7 in Cleveland's last 22 games overall.
Key Injuries - F Darnell Jackson (wrist) is OUT.
PROJECTED SCORE: 93 (UNDER - Total Play of the Day)
Mavs (-2.5, O/U 192): Dallas earned its first victory of the season on Saturday at Minnesota, 95-85. The Mavs got outstanding support from their reserves, who totaled 42 points. Jason Terry led the Dallas bench with 19 while Gerald Green added nine, seven of which came during a three-minute stretch in the fourth quarter. Green did not even play in the season opener, and new head coach Rick Carlisle is still working on his regular rotation.
Mavs are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games.
The UNDER is 8-3 in Dallas' last 11 home games.
Key Injuries - F Devean George (hand) is day-to-day.

Tips and Trends

Boston Celtics at Houston Rockets [8:30 PM ET]
Celtics: Not that they're making excuses, but the defending NBA champs suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday night after playing back-to-back nights at home and on the road. They definitely looked out of sync in getting crushed 95-79 by the Pacers, shooting 35 percent from the field and committing 24 turnovers. It also didn't help that Paul Pierce missed 12-of-15 shots for Boston. This will be the first meeting since the Celtics ended Houston's 22-game winning streak with a 94-74 rout at the Toyota Center back on March 18th.
Celtics are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games vs. Southwest Division.
The UNDER is 8-1 in Boston's last 9 road games.
Key Injuries - NONE
PROJECTED SCORE: 86 (UNDER - Total Play of the Day)- Loss
Rockets (-2, O/U 178): Houston has been able to overcome a slow start offensively by Tracy McGrady thanks to the addition of Ron Artest and more contributions from reserves. McGrady is shooting just 37 percent from the field through three games, but it hasn't mattered too much because others have picked up the slack. For example, Carl Landry totaled 14 points off the bench on 6-of-11 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds in an 89-77 rout of Oklahoma City on Saturday. Landry was the only Rocket who shot better than 50 percent against the Thunder.
Rockets are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games cs. Atlantic Division.
The UNDER is 10-1 in Houston's last 11 home games.
Key Injuries - F Shane Battier (foot) is questionable.
PROJECTED SCORE: 88
Dallas Mavericks at San Antonio Spurs [8:30 PM ET]
Mavs: Dallas clearly is not the same team that went to the NBA Finals three years ago, as the players are still searching for an identity with new head coach Rick Carlisle. Insiders expected a more exciting offensive system under Carlisle, but the Mavs are averaging less than 93 points through three games. That includes two losses at home after losing 100-81 to the Cavs there on Monday. The lone win for Dallas this season came at Minnesota on Saturday.
Road team is 12-4 ATS in the last 16 meetings.
The UNDER is 10-4-1 in Dallas' last 16 Tuesday games.
Key Injuries - F Devean George (hand) is day-to-day.
PROJECTED SCORE: 92
Spurs (-3.5, O/U 190): San Antonio should have C Fabricio Oberto back for this game after he sat out the first two with an irregular heartbeat. That would allow Matt Bonner to go back to the bench and take some pressure off Tim Duncan inside. Bonner got the nod at Portland on Friday and totaled just five points and two rebounds in 12 minutes. More good news is that the Spurs did not lose consecutive games at the AT&T Center last season, and they are traditionally one of the best home teams in the NBA.
Spurs are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
The UNDER is 8-2 in San Antonio's last 10 games overall.
Key Injuries - C Fabricio Oberto (irregular heartbeat) is expected to return.
G Manu Ginobili (ankle) is OUT.

Pick ‘n’ Roll: Best NBA bets
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoenix at New Jersey (+5, 203)
So much for the idea that a new coach would slow the Suns down a bit to start this season. Phoenix has won two out of three with Terry Porter at the helm, beating the Spurs at San Antonio to open the year, losing a tough one at New Orleans, and then pounding an upstart Trail Blazers team at home.
The supposed commitment to defense under Porter hasn’t kept total numbers down either, with all three of the Suns’ games checking in above the posted total.
So far, Phoenix is getting it done with depth. The Suns have six players averaging at least 10 points, with Amare Stoudemire leading the way at 23.2, while five guys are grabbing at least five rebounds a game so far.
Pick: over - Loss
Dallas at San Antonio (-3.5, 190)
The Spurs don’t lose three straight very often, but they’re staring an 0-3 start in the face with the Mavericks coming to town on Tuesday. And after losing their first two by a combined total of six points against Portland and Phoenix, the Spurs will be fired up coming back home.
The problem hasn’t been with San Antonio’s big guns. Tim Duncan dropped 32 points in the opener and added 27 points and 10 boards against Portland, while Tony Parker is averaging 28 points and chipped in with 11 assists his last time out.
San Antonio heads into this one having beaten the Mavericks in each of their last three meetings.
Pick: San Antonio - Loss

Pick 'n' Roll: Wednesday's best NBA bets
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Detroit Pistons at Toronto Raptors (NA)
If the Pistons ever had an excuse to pack it in for a night, it would have been Wednesday night after Chauncey Billups, their captain, and Antonio McDyess were shipped to Denver in exchange for Allen Iverson. Instead, they stuck together and put in what is likely their best effort of the season, a 101-83 win at Charlotte.
The reality of the deal will hit home on Wednesday when Iverson is expected to make his first start with Detroit against the Raptors. Iverson will definitely create a different dynamic on the floor than Pistons fans are used to and it will take some time to iron the kinks out. In the meantime, looking above the total may be your best bet.
Pick: over - Win
Philadelphia 76ers at Miami Heat (NA)
There’s no doubt the Miami Heat are ecstatic to have a healthy Dwyane Wade back on the floor, but right now the 6-foot-4 sharpshooter is having a hard time adjusting to everything that has changed around him.
Rookies Mario Chalmers and Michael Beasley are the future in Miami and both are playing more than 30 minutes a night already. The Heat want to work the two young gunners into the NBA game as quickly as possible, but it’s causing problems early on. Wade says he doesn’t feel comfortable in the offense and Shawn Marion is only averaging a dozen points per game so far.
This new wave may take a while in Miami.
Pick: Philadelphia - Loss

Chicago Bulls at Cleveland Cavaliers [ESPN | 8 PM ET]
Bulls: Chicago has played extremely tough so far this season despite the fact that they will be playing three of last year's four Eastern Conference semifinalists in eight days to start the seson. The Bulls have split four games and are coming off a 96-93 loss at Orlando on Monday. The Bulls have won two of the last three meetings at Cleveland because they have not let other Cavs beat them besides LeBron James, who averaged 35.8 points against them last season. Chicago will be looking forward to a five-game homestand after this game.
Bulls are 5-2 SU & ATS in the last 7 meetings.
The UNDER is 9-2 in Chicago's last 11 games overall.
Key Injuries - G Larry Hughes (shoulder) is OUT.
PROJECTED SCORE: 87 (UNDER - Total Play of the Day) - Loss
Cavs (-8, O/U 186): Cleveland begins a stretch of playing five of six games at home after playing three of their first four on the road. The Cavs lost two of those games even though they went 2-1 against the spread. LeBron James is coming off a season-high 29 points in a 100-81 victory at Dallas on Monday and feels good about his team after they went on a 13-0 run to start the fourth quarter. “We took a stand,” James said. "When they tied it up, we buckled down and worked defensively. Then we made some shots. I didn’t shoot the ball particularly well, like I know I can. I was in attack mode all night, but I missed some shots I know I can make.”
Cavs are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall.
The UNDER is 20-6 in Cleveland's last 26 home games.
Key Injuries - F Darnell Jackson (wrist) is OUT.

Denver Nuggets at Golden State Warriors [ESPN | 10:30 PM ET]
Nuggets: Denver will be without PG Chauncey Billups, who was traded for Allen Iverson on Monday. Billups could not travel to California in time and will not make his debut until Friday at home against Dallas. Until then, the Nuggets will count on J.R. Smith to fill in for Iverson's scoring. Smith is certainly capable, as he has averaged 17 points in two games so far and could break out in this game. Carmelo Anthony will also be playing his second game this season after scoring 13 in a 104-97 home loss to the Lakers on Friday.
Nuggerst are 7-2 SU in the last 9 meetings.
The UNDER is 9-2 in Denver's last 11 games overall.

G Sonny Weems (hernia) is questionable.
C Steven Hunter (knee) is questionable.

Warriors (-3.5, O/U 203.5): Golden State returns home following a 1-2 road trip that was concluded by a 90-79 loss at Memphis on Monday. The Warriors totaled just 12 points in the fourth quarter against the Grizzlies and shot just 34.4 percent from the field. "I think this was one of those games where we were getting a lot of open shots," Golden State G DeMarcus Nelson said.
" They were the same shots we’ve been getting, but tonight we just didn’t convert and complete a high percentage of them."
Warriors are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games vs. Northwest Division.

Pick 'n' Roll: Thursday's best NBA bets
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Philadelphia 76ers at Orlando Magic (-5.5, 191.5)
The 76ers haven't played well enough to match their preseason hype, but they look like a team eager to improve. The acquisition of Elton Brand is paying dividends for the Sixers with the former Dukie averaging nearly 19 points and 15 rebounds per game. Philadelphia should start playing better once point guard Andre Miller shakes off some early season rust.
When Miller’s playing his best he finds open shooters and cutters heading to the hoop. Don’t be scare off of Philly’s 31-point second half against the Hawks on Saturday night. Atlanta is a much better defensive team than Orlando.
The Magic are capable of putting up some big numbers themselves too. Dwight Howard is arguably the most powerful player in the league.
"He is the strongest guy I've ever played against,” Kobe Bryant said about his Team USA teammate.
Howard had 22 points, 15 boards and 5 blocks Monday against the Bulls. Philly center Samuel Dalembert is a good defender but he’ll have trouble matching Howard strength. Look for both clubs to shoot a high percentage and finished above the total.
