  • NFL Pet Peeves?

What are some of your pet peeves while watching a football game?

For me my biggest pet peeve is short yardage and goal line offense. Offenses cram 7 lineman in a small area. Then insist on running between the tackles. It becomes a massive pile of bodies. The backs have nowhere to run. Why not run the same offense on the goal line that they run normally? Spread them out as an offense normally does on 2nd and 5 from the 50.

Prevent Defense is another pet peeve. A defense attacks for 58 minutes then changes their philosophy with the game on the line. I give kudos to Giants d-coordinator Steve Spagnuolo in yesterday's game vs. Steelers. With the game on the line he kept attacking. He kept blitzing.

Coaches calling pass plays on BOTH 2nd AND 3rd and 1 yard from the opposition 40 yard line down by a FG or less and then fucking punting...

Mine would be teams that burn through all 3 timeouts before the second quarter. How in the world do teams do this? They seem to function fine without them after they've burned them all. What is so critical and perplexing to a QB, especially a veteran that forces him to burn all TO's before even getting close to halftime? I've seen Jeff Garcia and Marc Bulger do this to name 2 this season. The other thing that kills me is they come back from these timeouts so often only to run the ball up the gut for a yard or throw a horrendous pass while the O line collapses around them.

or sometimes they come back on the field after a meaningless Timeout and get a delay of game penalty

when an offensive co ordinator is playing a team with real fast defenders, and they continue to try and go wide, try end arounds, trick plays, for three quarters (to no avail), and then realize running right at em, or throwing quick passes down the middle works....

Takes em 3 whole quarters to figure it out.....and that's what they're getting paid for.....

or, when you're moving the ball 5-9 yds every time, whether running or passing, and then instead of taking what they give ya, go for the bomb 3 straight times, and then Punt....I know you have to keep em honest, but as long as you're getting that kind of yardage, take it, make the D make adjustments, not you...

In essence, I'm saying the play selection from some of these offensive co ordinators pisses me off....

That's my pet peeve and opinion

Unreal Frank you hit the nail on the head as this is something that truly pisses me off. I got into a fight with a friend of mine who is a coach on the Texans and he says that if you spread out on the goal line it creates an easy blitze situation which I say is BS......why these fucken morons insist on cramming 15 people on the goal line and then hope the back can still get through is beyond me.

The best way to score from the 1 yard line is to do line up in a regular formation with 2 or 3 WR and create more space.....not jam it up with 7 lineman on offense and 9 guys on defense......these coaches sometimes can be the stupidest people on the planet......nothing pisses me more in the world then what you just said. If you notice its the smart teams (Colts, Pats and a few others) who do not always use this damn goal line formation for short yardage.

              PEACE

One of my favorite plays is when teams ar eon the goal line, line up 5 wide and pull a QB draw...don't tell me Eli couldn't have pulled that off!

And, the 15 yd penalty for barely breathing on the QB when they have stopped the team on 3rd down.

And, the amount of Punt ****** which are called back for the block in the back. Do players ever learn.

Pet Peeve #1- Defenders who pick off balls on 4th down and hurt their teams field position by not knocking it down.

Pet Peeve #2 - Players that don't understand the rules and hurt their team, i.e. the gunner on the point team, who gets knocked out of bounds, and downs the ball at the 2...great move, accept that you can't be the first one to touch the ball. Or on a punt, the punting team will touch the ball but not down it, meaning the receiving team can pick the ball up and run with it without risking a fumble...well, they fumble and the punting team is diving all over the loose ball and celebrating because they recovered...

Kenny Philips on Sunday. I agree. He's got to knock that ball down.

3 great pet peeves. Especially the last one. Same with Shockey catching a 5 yard pass for a first down then getting up like he just won the SB.

If they want to cram everyone between the tackles then run play action to the tight end or fake up the middle with a quick pitch to the half back. How about a quick slant to the WR in motion. There has to be better and more effective plays than running no where between the tackles.

or hit the wideout on a quick slant
