Ice picks: Monday's best NHL bets
        --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

        Ottawa at Buffalo (-160, 6)

The Ottawa Senators were one of four NHL clubs that opened the season in Europe and haven’t looked right since, but it’s hard to pin down one main problem. Goaltending looks like it will be an issue again this year with Martin Gerber struggling and you can see how much the defense is missing Wade Redden’s puck-moving ability already after he skipped town for the Big Apple in the offseason.

Plus, the coaching staff has already broken up the Spezza-Heatley duo in an effort to jumpstart the offense. Spezza and Heatley aren’t the only offenders, though. Antoine Vermette leads the team with 28 shots on goal, but has only a single goal (his only point of the season) to show for it.

        Pick: Buffalo

        Anaheim at Columbus (+105, 5)

The Ducks finally found some offense on their current road trip. Their top line of Chris Kunitz, Ryan Getzlaf, and Corey Perry broke out against the Canadiens on Saturday, registering three goals and seven points in the 6-4 win.

It was a great sign for Anaheim, which has really struggled to produce consistent offense early in the season, but the Ducks still have some work to do in their own end. They allowed 51 shots against on Saturday and could have been in big trouble late in the game if it weren’t for Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Expect a much tighter effort in their own end against Columbus.

        Pick: Anaheim
