I hope everybody's been watching these games. Two very evenly matched teams that are being well managed (Joe Maddon is a great manager and Manuel is an idiot but I've gotta admit every move he is making right now is working.) Last night's game was just amazing:
---Tampa ties it solely on Upton's baserunning and then Philly wins it without hitting a ball farther than 30 feet.
All that being said....I like a side tonight.
YTD 48-49 +9.46 units
Playoffs 5-1 +6.49 units
3* 1-0 +3.0 units
2* 4-2 +4.44 units
1* 43-47 +2.02 units
Faves 10-7 +5.53 units
Dogs 38-40 +6.08 units
Totals 0-2 -2.15 units
I lost game 2 with the Phillies as a big dog for my first post-season loss.
1* Phillies +100
Philadelphia has been undervalued the entire post-season and that's why I keep playing them. No way should they be a dog at home in a dead even series like this. Blanton has been BETTER than Sonnanstine the last few starts. The bullpens are dead even---both are on fire. Utley and Howard finally hit HRS last night even though nobody was on base but it may be a sign the Phils' big lineup will break out.
Key point: The Phillies essentially get nine innings versus Tampa's eight right now because of Lidge's automatic saves (no blown saves ALL year). In a tight game, that's a nice edge.
One other note:
If Tampa loses tonight, they will be a HUGE dog on a series play being down 3-1 with Hamels pitching game 5. It may be worth a flyer as if they can beat Hamels they will be favored in both games 6 and 7 in Florida. I would only consider this play if Philadelphia wins today as that will produce a huge series underdog number on the Rays
