        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
        Tips and Trends
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arizona Cardinals at Carolina Panthers [FOX | 1 PM ET]

Cardinals: Wide receiver Anquan Boldin is hopeful of playing on Sunday in Carolina, although the game comes just more than weeks after he underwent surgery to repair facial fractures. If Boldin can’t go, Steve Breaston will start for the third straight game. Breaston has played well starting in place of Boldin. Breaston caught 15 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown in the past two games. The Cardinals are playing in the Eastern time zone this week. They are just 3-8 on the East coast in Ken Whisenhunt’s two seasons.

Cardinals are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games.
Cardinals are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games in Week 8.

Key Injuries - WR Anquan Boldin (head) is questionable.

        PROJECTED SCORE: 17

Panthers (-4.5, O/U 43.5): Wide receiver Steve Smith is coming off a big game against the Saints and he should stay on fire this Sunday. In his last three games against Arizona, Smith has 27 receptions for 354 yards and three touchdowns. The Panthers pass defense will get tested today but it’s played extremely well of late. Drew Brees came into last week’s game as the league’s second-highest rated quarterback, averaging 332.2 yards passing and two touchdowns per game. But the Panthers applied plenty of pressure on Brees and limited him to 231 yards passing and no touchdowns..

Panthers are 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 home games.
Panthers are 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 vs. NFC.

Key Injuries - WR Mushin Muhammad (knee) is probable.

PROJECTED SCORE: 24 (Side Play of the Day)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Dallas Cowboys [FOX | 1 PM ET]

Bucs: Quarterback Jeff Garcia had a breakout game against the Seahawks, passing for 310 yards and a touchdown. The team has now won two straight games with Garcia at the helm and the offense has really picked it up, scoring 47 points in his two starts. The Cowboys could find it tough sledding today against one of the league’s top pass defenses. The Bucs only allow 201 yards per game through the air this season.

Buccaneers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. NFC.
Buccaneers are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games in Week 8.

Key Injuries - WR Joey Galloway (foot) is questionable.

        PROJECTED SCORE: 20

Cowboys (-4): Dallas needs a win in the worst way after dropping two straight to the Cardinals and Rams. The Cowboys are in serious decline. They have lost three of their last four games and six of their last 11 dating back to last season, when they opened 12-1. Quarterback Tony Romo will be a game-time decision for Sunday. Romo missed last week’s game with a broken pinkie. He was ruled out in pregame warm-ups against the Rams because he had problems with his finger and gripping the ball. His timetable might be accelerated this week because the team is in desperation mode.

Cowboys are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
Cowboys are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games.

Key Injuries - QB Tony Romo (finger) is questionable.
S Roy Williams (forearm) is OUT.

        PROJECTED SCORE: 24

New York Giants at Pittsburgh Steelers [NBC | 8:15 PM ET]

Giants: The Giants saw their road winning streak come to end two weeks ago at Cleveland but now they’ll try and get another one started against the Steelers. Expect the Giants defense to take a page out of the Eagles book today and pressure Ben Roethlisberger early and often. The Eagles sacked Big Ben eight times and pressured him on numerous other occasions by blitzing and former Philly and current Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo runs the same aggressive scheme. Quarterback Eli Manning has been sacked only six times in six games. Last year he was dropped 27 times in 16 regular season games.

Giants are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games in October.
Giants are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 8.

Key Injuries - LB Antonio Pierce (quad) is questionable.

PROJECTED SCORE: 17 (UNDER - Total Play of the Day)

Steelers (-3, O/U 42): Outside linebackers James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley are putting the blitz back in Blitzburgh. The Steelers two outside linebackers have combined for 16 sacks after each got two more last week against the Bengals. Harrison and Woodley will have a challenge in front of them this week, taking on a Giants offensive line that’s one of the NFL’s best. The Steelers are hoping they aren’t shorthanded on defense this week. Safety Troy Polamalu left Sunday’s game in Cincinnati with a head injury. He had a history of concussions at Southern Cal and has had one with the Steelers.

Steelers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win.
The OVER is 8-2 in Steelers last 10 games overall.

Key Injuries - RB Willie Parker (knee) is doubtful.
S Troy Polamalu (concussion) is questionable.

        PROJECTED SCORE: 20

            Week 8 NFL games

            Sunday, October 26

Raiders (2-4) @ Ravens (3-3)- Ryan brothers run each defense, so expect lot of blitzing. Oakland off OT win vs. Jets last week; they lost last three visits to Baltimore by 5-3-22 points. Three of four Raider losses are by 10+ points. Ravens allowed only 33 points in three home games (two TDs on 33 drives), with all three home games staying under total. Oakland is 1-3 vs. spread if they score less than 23 points. Raiders are just 15 for last 60 on third down. AFC Eest road dogs are 2-5 vs. spread in non-divisional games; AFC North home favorites are 5-3.

Chargers (3-4) vs Saints (3-4) (London)- This is a night game in London, as Brees faces team that gave up on him and kept Rivers, so you know this game has special meaning to him. Both teams are disappointing, loser here is in big trouble. Chargers are 1-3 on road, and they trailed 15-0 at half in the only win. Saints are 0-3 on road, allowing 29-34-30 points. AFC West teams are 5-11 vs. spread in non-division games, 2-5 as favorite. NFC South teams are 13-4 vs. spread, 2-0 as underdog. Real concern in this game is the field- the grass wasn't strong enough in LY's Giant-Dolphin game (ton of slipping).

Chiefs (1-5) @ Jets (3-3)- Chiefs' two best players are unhappy, they have no QB, and Jet fans despise Herm Edwards since he bolted on them three years ago; KC lost its last two games by combined score of 68-10, giving up 332 rushing yards to Titans last week- their last four losses are all by 15+ points. Not crazy about laying 13 with 3-3 Jets squad that lost in Black Hole last week, but they did score 82 points in winning last two games in Swamp (nine TDs/22drives). AFC West road dogs are 2-5 out of division. AFC East home favorites are 5-3. Over is 3-1 in last four games for both sides.

Bills (5-1) @ Dolphins (2-4)- Trap game for Buffalo team that won seven of last eight vs. Miami, including last four by 10-21-3-21 points- they won three of last four here, with seven of last ten series totals 34 or less. Fish allowed 13-10 points in their two wins, 20+ in losses (average of 26.8)- they ran ball for average of 72 yds/game in the losses, 216-167 in the wins. Bills allowed 167-123 rushing yards in last two road games, only times this season they've allowed more than 85. Home team is 0-3 vs. spread in AFC East divisional games in '08. Over is 4-1 in last five Miami games.

Bucs (5-2) @ Cowboys (4-3)-Dallas lost three of last four games, gave up 180 rushing yards in St Louis last week, figure to get blitzed often by Kiffin's defense that helped Brad Johnson win Super Bowl six years ago.- here, he is 40-year old suspect (17-34/217, three sacks, four TOs last week). NFC South teams are 13-4 vs. spread out of division, 5-2 as a road dog. Cowboys score 32 peg at home (2-1) but that was with Romo- their secondary is also messed up, with Jones-Newman-Williams all out. All three Tampa road games were decided by four points or less.

Rams (2-4) @ Patriots (4-2)- New England just played two games in pimetime, has another one with Colts next week, letdown very possible vs. improving St Louis team that beat Redskins, Dallas in last two games. Haslett's Rams forced seven turnovers in last two games, are playing with confidence; every stat has turned 180 degrees for them since coaching change. Cassel was sacked 19 times in last four games but has turned ball over just five times; Pats are 1-2 as a home favorite. NFC West road dogs are 2-7 vs spread out of division; AFC East home favorites are 5-3.

Cardinals (4-2) @ Panthers (5-2)- Carolina is 4-0 at home, winning last three by total of 88-16; they won last four games vs. Arizona by 3-25-4-15 points. Cardinals are off bye; they scored 30+ points in four of last five games (averaged 35.3 in last three), but lost last two road games, giving up 24-56 points. Last six Carolina games stayed under total; four of last five Redbird games went over. Panthers scored 10-3 points in their two losses- Arizona allowed average of 30.3 pg in last four contests. Carolina averaged 8.4+ yards/pass attempt in three of last four games. NFC South home favorites are 6-2 in non-divisional games.

Redskins (5-2) @ Lions (0-6)- Detroit allowed 48-34 points in losing only two home games (by 23-27 points); bad teams have very little home field edge, and Lions don't have competent NFL QB. Washington won five of last six games, but none of wins is by more than seven points- they were held to 17-14 points in last two games, after they averaged 25.5 in four games before that. Skins have only two takeaways in last four games. NFC North teams are 7-9 vs. spread out of division, but 6-5 as underdogs. Four of last five Redskin games, three of last four Detroit tilts stayed under the total.

Falcons (4-2) @ Eagles (3-3)- Home side won seven of last eight series games, with Falcons losing last four visits here, by 28-14-17-7 points. Both teams off bye; Atlanta rookie QB Ryan comes home to face team he rooted for as kid- Eagles figure to greet him with variety of blitzes. Both Falcon losses were 24-9, averaging 3.5 yds/pass in both games; they scored an average of 30.3 pg in their wins. Philly allowed 24.3 pg in last three games, but are 2-1 at home, giving up 3-6 points in the wins. After giving up just 53.8 rushing yards/game in first four weeks, Philly allowed 203-131 in last two games. Falcons are going to try and pound ball.

Browns (2-4) @ Jaguars (3-3)- Distractions on both side of ball; Winslow opened his yap, got suspended by team for this game; Jags' Jones (drugs) was suspended by NFL. Visitor won five of last seven in series, with Browns winning last two visits here- they covered last three games but are 1-2 on road, losing by 18-3 points. Anderson averaged less than 5.2 yds/pass in four of last five games; absence of Winslow here won't help that. Jags are 0-3 as home favorite (only win 20-17 vs Texans) but are off bye. figure to improve. AFC North road underdogs are 5-3 vs. spread; AFC South home favorites are 2-5.

Giants (5-1) @ Steelers (4-2)- Jersey Giants traded for Manning rather than drafting Big Ben, which adds little juice to this tilt. Steelers scored 38-23 points in winning first two home games this is their first home game in four weeks. Big Blue's first visit to Steel City in 17 years; they scored 26+ points in last four wins, are 1-1 on road crushing Linehan Rams 41-13 in Week 2 (-8), losing 35-14 in Cleveland two weeks ago (-7.5). This is first game this year an NFC East team is underdog outside its division, as Plaxico Burress goes up against his first NFL team for the first time. Over is 4-1 in last five Giant games, 3-0 in last three Steeler contests.

Bengals (0-7) @ Texans (2-4)- Re-scheduled from Week 10 because of Hurricane Ike; Bengals are 0-4 on road, losing by 7-3-9-12 points- they gave up 31.7 pg in last three games- Steelers averaged 10 yards/play against them in second half last week. Houston had 21-0 lead last week, won 28-21, their second win in row, fourth straight game they scored 27+ points, with dogs covering all four games. All six of their games this season have gone over total, as have last three Bengal games. Third straight home game for Texans, who are improving, but their wins are by just 1-7 points.

Seahawks (1-5) @ 49ers (2-5)- Two teams in turmoil; there is decent chance that Holmgren will return to work for 49ers next year. In meantime, Singletary makes debut as 49er interim coach, while Holmgren is lame duck without decent QB. Seahawks lost last three games, scoring 6-17-10 points (three TDs on 31 drives); they're 0-3 on road, losing by 24-38-10 points in non-competitive efforts. Seattle swept series in '07, winning 23-3/24-0; they won four of last five visits here, losing 20-14 in '06. 49ers lost last four games, are 0-5 if they score less than 31 points. Over is 4-1-1 in Seahawk games.

            Monday, October 27

Colts (3-3) @ Titans (6-0)- NFL's last unbeaten hosts struggling Colt squad that lost two of last three vs. Tennessee, after winning previous seven meetings. Indy has had only one game this season where they didn't either lose or trail by double digits in second half, but they're 4-1 in last five visits here, with average total in those games 45.2. Colts yielded average of 163.8 rushing yds/game in first four games, improved to 83.5 in last two. Titans ran ball for 332 yards in first game after bye last week- they give up just 12.3 pg at home (4-0). Over is 3-1 in the last four games for both teams.

Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans [ESPN | 8:30 PM ET]

Colts: The Colts will be looking to bounce back after an awful loss at Green Bay. Sitting at 3-3, this isn’t the Indy team we’re used to seeing. The Colts have struggled on both sides of the ball this year and are lucky to be sitting at .500. However, history is on the side of the Colts for the most part tonight. Indy has won eight of the past 10 meetings and three of the past four meetings have been determined by three points or less. The Colts have a 4-2 record at LP Field in Nashville since 2002. Indianapolis has a 29-9 record in AFC South play since 2002.

Colts are 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings.
Colts are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 Monday games.

Key Injuries - RB Joseph Addai (hamstring) is doubtful.
S Bob Sanders (ankle) is OUT.

PROJECTED SCORE: 23 (OVER - Total Play of the Day)

Titans (-4, O/U 41): The Titans haven’t just won all of their games this year, they are also 6-0 ATS. Tennessee has arguably the best front seven in the NFL but they haven’t had a great deal of success sacking Indy QB Peyton Manning over the years. They got to him twice in the first meeting last year, but have not sacked him at all in five of their past six games against the Colts. Overall, Tennessee has just 11 sacks of Manning in 13 meetings with Indianapolis. Look for the Titans to run the ball tonight. They average 154.5 yards per game rushing, while Indy gives up 153.5 yards per game on the ground.

Titans are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 vs. AFC South.
Titans are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

Key Injuries - DE Kyle Vanden Bosch (groin) is probable.

              PROJECTED SCORE: 27
