            Vancouver at Chicago (-115, 5.5)

Roberto Luongo struggled at the beginning of last season for Vancouver before going on an outstanding run. Now struggling early again this season, the Canucks captain has a chance for a boost in a matchup with the disappointing Chicago Blackhawks.

After getting a game off, Luongo is expected to be back in net on Sunday night when Vancouver visits the Blackhawks in new coach Joel Quenneville's home debut.

Luongo was given the night off in a 5-2 loss to Buffalo on Friday after he allowed 12 goals in his last three starts following a shutout of Calgary in the season opener. Curtis Sanford, Luongo's replacement, didn't fare much better in his first start of the season, giving up three goals in the first 13:10.

"Anytime you spot a team ... a three-goal lead right off the bat, you're obviously not giving yourself a chance to win," Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said.

Having dropped two of three after opening a six-game road trip with a win over the Flames, Vancouver (3-2-0) is likely to turn back to Luongo. He went through a similar start last season, going 1-2-0 with a 4.21 goals-against average in his first three games before he went 8-6-1 with a 2.13 GAA in his next 15 contests.

If he starts against Chicago (1-2-2), Luongo will be facing a team arguably in disarray after it fired coach Denis Savard four games into the season.

Luongo is also 7-5-0 with one tie and a 2.14 GAA in 13 career starts against the Blackhawks. He'll also need some offensive support with the Canucks having scored two goals or less in two of their last three games, both losses.

            Pick: under

            Carolina at Anaheim (-150, 5.5)

The Ducks look to make it two in a row as they conclude a three-game homestand with a matchup against the struggling Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.

Anaheim (1-4-0) has reached the playoffs three straight years - winning the Stanley Cup in 2006-07 - and entered this season with similar expectations. But the team lost its first four games to inch closer to the worst start in franchise history - an 0-4-1 stretch to open 2003-04.

The Ducks, though, avoided a five-game slide with a 4-0 home victory over San Jose on Friday. Francois Beauchemin, Chris Pronger, Travis Moen and Samuel Pahlsson each provided a goal, while Rob Niedermayer contributed two assists to back Jean-Sebastien Giguere's 38-save performance.

The goaltender also helped kill off seven penalties for Anaheim, which had surrendered seven power-play goals in 25 chances during the losing streak.

"We got our first win and we're happy with it," Giguere, who gave up 13 goals through the first three contests, told the Ducks' official Web site. "The last game (a 3-2 loss to Edmonton) was a starting point. Now we just have to keep going forward and try to put some good games together."

To pick up back-to-back victories, however, Anaheim must resume its strong play at the Honda Center, where it went 28-9-4 last season for the second-best home record in the league. The Ducks established a franchise-best 10-game winning streak there from Feb. 17-March 26.

            Pick: Ducks

Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a college football Saturday

                13) This was the first college football Saturday without an underdog of 10+ points winning a game. Army and Ole Miss came close, but lost at the end. UTEP didn't come close, giving up 49 points in the first half of the worst defensive performance I've ever seen.

                12) Clemson turned ball over six times in their loss to Georgia Tech, in their first game since Tommy Bowden got fired; what a mess, as the benched QB said the coach "got what he deserved." At least the inmates aren't running the asylum.

                11) ESPN's Andre Ware ripped the Clemson AD pretty good as he was standing on sidelines during final minutes of Tigers' home loss to Georgia Tech. "If you want to coach, then coach the team; otherwise, stay upstairs and entertain the alumni."

                10) UConn hit right upright with FG attempt with 1:12 left to play, giving Rutgers 12-10 win, their first this year vs a Division I team.

                9) Wisconsin is now 0-4 in Big 11, getting thumped 38-16 at Iowa, which also happens to be coach Bielema's alma mater. Not good.

                8) Boston College's 28-23 win over Virginia Tech is misleading; both Hokie TDs were scored by the defense. BC scored on a punt return. Eagles won despite turning the ball over five times.

                7) This Washington State team is probably the worst in the history of the Pac-10; they've given up 60+ points in four of their five games in league play. Supposedly they have a really good freshman QB that is being red-shirted, should be easy to recruit, since they can sell kids on the chance to play right away. This is a horrible football team.

                6) Kentucky scored two TDs in last 4:15 to erase a 20-7 deficit and beat Arkansas 21-20, making Wildcats 5-2 and keeping their bowl hopes very much alive. Razorbacks had a 14-0 lead at halftime.

                5) Southern Mississippi fired successful coach Jeff Bower after last year because they wanted a better offense; well, their offense is a lot better, but..........Southern Miss is 2-5. Bower wasn't 2-5 very much.

                4) Huge win for Mike Stoops and Arizona late Saturday night; they scored pair of TDs in 0:17 span of third quarter, erased 24-14 deficit and ran away from the Cal Bears, 42-27. At 5-2, Arizona looks good to go to a bowl and save Stoops' job.

                3) San Jose State ran two INTs back for TDs in first 16:00, as the Spartans won easily at New Mexico State, improving to 5-2. Tomey has won before at Hawai'i, Arizona, now he is quietly doing it again.

                2) Before last week, last time Texas, Penn State and Alabama were all ranked in the top 5 in counry was January 3, 1978.

                1) How good is Texas? To score 101 points in consecutive weeks vs Oklahoma and Missouri, wow, thats impressive.
