  • Cowboys acquire Roy Williams from Lions

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that the Cowboys have acquired Roy Williams from the Lions for "at least" one first-round pick.
Because the one thing they are missing is a diva wide receiver. This move smacks of desperation on the heels of an ugly weekend in Dallas. Williams' contract ends after this season, so the move only makes some sense if they extend his deal.

The Dallas Cowboys are close to a deal to acquire wide receiver Roy Williams from the Detroit Lions, a source told ESPN.com Tuesday. The trade would involve multiple draft picks but would not involve the Cowboys' first-round pick.

The Cowboys are also trying to negotitate a long-term deal with Williams before completing the deal. Williams has expressed unhappiness playing for the winless Lions and can become a free agent after the season unless the team places the franchise tag on him.

        Wow!!!!!

        Yeah for my fantasy team?

Patrick Crayton owners can't be happy??

        Austin Miles??

That is a tough offense when Romo is healthy. You have T.O. and Williams on opposite sides with Witten at TE and Barber in the backfield? Pretty scary!

I think this will backfire even more...this team is going to rip each other apart in the locker room and whatever remains are left will choke in the playoffs, AGAIN..

I didn't say it would work. It just looks good on paper!

1st, 3rd, and 6th round pick??? For a WR?? I like Roy Williams as a WR, but this seems steep. I mean is he one of the greatest ever?? You would think so by what they gave up. I mean he isn't a QB, he is a WR! They already have a #1, so how much is he gonna do over their other #2 or #3???

AMoutindallas called this a month ago! Nice call!

A lot to give up for a #2 receiver. And they have bigger issues than offense....

I think this is too much too, but are any of these picks the ones they got back from Tennessee because of PacMan's suspension? How many draft picks is a team this good going to sign each year anyway? Especially considering the 1st rounder would likely be in the high 20s or more. Look at the deal as you would a fantasy football keeper league deal, Dallas uses multiple 3rd round picks to; A-get a deep threat opposite TO B- have someone on place to be the #1 when he retires C- keep him away from a division rival (Eagles) all while giving up something they have a lot of (draft pick & $$$)
Of course, all this depends on TO not mucking it up as a prima donna. As a Boys fan, I will wait and see---I still don't like TO, but I am happy to see him still throwing blocks in a game they are losing and in which he has not gotten the ball, so we will see how much this helps.

It is a stupid trade no matter how you look at it. Maybe they want to part ways with T-O but with salary cap it won't be easy to keep both. Also, look at their problems on defense. They would have been much better off trading for some help on that side of the ball because they certainly don't need it on offense. This causes nothing but problems in the long run. Teams are built in the NFL draft, the Pats make big pickups but always keep their draft picks. I don't understand what the hell Jerry Jones is doing.

Can someone please help me here,,,,How can the Cowboys take on Roy Boys salary, doesn't this effect the salary cap? I guess they know what they are doing, but they have alot of high paid players already, would think they must be close to the cap,,now add Roy.
