Ice Picks: Sunday's best NHL bet
      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Colorado at Edmonton (-125, 5.5)

The Oilers made a number of adjustments in the offseason. Eric Cole, Lubomir, Penner and Gilbert Brule were all brought in. Cole should ramp things up scoring wise for the first line. If Horcoff can stay healthy that will be a potent line indeed. Dustin Penner, picked up from the Ducks will a nice addition in the third line, although I am really surprised he isn’t on the second. I’m sure before things go to far he will make the jump. On the back end, Visnovsky is an offensive minded defenseman and should work well with Souray. All these additions will ramp up the scoring for the Oilers which finished 20th last year. Meanwhile, Mathieu Garon took the starting job from Dwayne Roloson last year, so things might not be settled in goal this year. The Oilers gave up a huge amount of goals last year (251). I don’t see it being much better this year.

The first thing the Avs did in the offseason was let Theodore go and bring Raycroft from the Leafs to tend net. Not sure if this was an upgrade, downgrade or staying the same. From what I have seen so far I would say it’s a wash. Also Darcy Tucker was picked up from the Leafs and I will try to lay off the Leaf bashing right now.

The Avs really didn’t do much in the way of moving players. They can still score but those legs are getting old. The blue was often banged up last year and they will need every bit of that health to help Raycroft and Budaj. It’s going to have to be a pinball machine for the Avs to win most games.

These teams played eight games last year with the OU going 8-2. With what the Avs and Oilers have to offer on the offensive and defensive sides I see no reason not to take another over here.

      Pick: Over 5.5 or 6
