  • The only thing that can stop the Phillies is.....

WHO HAS THE BEST BATTING ORDER IN BASEBALL?

    the Phillies

WHO HAS THE BEST STARTING PITCHING IN BASEBALL?

It's close, but I'll say the Phillies (Cubs are close)

WHO HAS THE BEST CLOSER IN BASEBALL?

the Phillies (although the Angels and Red Sox are close)

SO IF THEY HAVE THE BEST HITTING, STARTING AND RELIEF PITCHING HOW CAN THEY NOT WIN THE WHOLE THING????

many here ridicule me for stressing managing but the answer is CHARLIE MANUEL. He's an idiot. Trust me. i watch a lot of games.

The phillies are my pick to win the world series but I haven't pulled the trigger on a futures bet because I have visions of him sitting in one dugot and either Joe Torre or Lou Piniella sitting in the other.

Though I disagree about the lineup and SP, Manuel is definitely a dumbass.

      Jimmy

I'll take a lineup with Howard, Utley, Rollins and Burrell over anybody else in baseball

No way in hell they have the best SP (IMO). You could debate the other 2 but i'll give those to you. Best Starting pitching? That one is WAY off to me.

Out of all the playoff teams, i would have the Phillies starters ranked closer to the bottom than the top. Maybe they would be ahead of ummmm ........ The White Sox or Brewers?

8 Playoff teams total. In the A.L. i would take the Rays, Red Sox and Angels top 3 over Philly in a heartbeat. In the N.L. i would take the Cubs over Philly for sure. That leaves possibly 3 teams below Philly (LA,Mil,CWS) IMO ... and i think many would take the Dodgers top 3 over Philly too!

I agree with you, but I'm saying Moyer is actually decent.

i think lidge proved today he's not even close to being the best closer in the playoffs. he always makes it interesting. GO PHILS!!!

Your out of your mind if you think the phillies have the best pitching in baseball.

Cole Hamels is in an ace i'll give you that...but every team in the playoffs has an ace in their rotation...theres noooo way any manager in baseball would take the phillies pitching over the dodgers, redsox, angels, and even the cubs...
                        hamels
                        myers
                        moyer
                        kendrick

we'll have to re-visit this thread tommorow after brett myers gives up 5 runs to the brewers

as for the hitting... sure you have some of the biggest bats with utley, howard, rollins, burrell but your bats wont out HIT the boston bats, or the angels bats.... phillies were only able to generate 4 hits today, only 1 extra base hit and that was a double which was actually a dropped fly balll by mike cameron.....

im sure phillies fans are happy about this win but I think the phills are a bit overrated, this will be a good series with the brew crew but its too bad that sheets isn't healthy....

Kendrick got booted a couple weeks ago out of the starting rotation

It is too bad Sheets isnt healthy. But I do think Lidge has to be one of the better closers in baseball. He hasen't blown one yet as interesting as he may make it. Brewers need offense no matter what in Sept or Oct your team can't win many games when you put up less then 5 runs a game, esp with out a good bull pen!

I have Phillies for the series against Milwaukee, and am happy they won today; however, if this such a well balanced team, can someone please tell me why in INTERLEAGUE play this year, their record was an "overwhelming" 3-15?
One would think that they would go at least 9-9 as a bare minimum.
