  • Buckeyes' Wells now doubtful for Saturday's game at USC

    Updated: September 11, 2008, 12:55 PM ET

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State coach Jim Tressel says it's doubtful that starting tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells will play Saturday night against top-ranked USC.

Wells injured his right foot in the No. 5 Buckeyes' opener against Youngstown State, did not play last week against Ohio and has not had contact in partial practices this week.

Tressel said Tuesday that Wells would play in Saturday's game at USC after missing last week's game with an injury to his right big toe. He said how much Wells would play would depend on his progress in practice.

But Tressel said Thursday there was lingering soreness for Wells after he worked out the night before. Wells did not practice with the team Thursday morning.

Tressel said team officials would monitor Wells' condition before deciding whether to rule him out for the game in Los Angeles.

Lou Holtz said the other day----If it is Turf Toe, he won't be back that fast....He sid it takes 4-5 weeks of no workouts for it to go away, and even then it has a tendency to come back....

Holtz said it is highly painful....I don't know, I've never had it....

USC will Roll regardless of who plays for OSU IMO

I'll bet it's worse thaan he is letting on:

News: Tomlinson (toe) said X-rays were negative and he should not miss any time, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. [-]
Impact: "I think it's too early to tell, but I don't think it's anything serious," said Tomlinson, who has never in his career missed a start due to injury. "It's something I've had before ... early in my career." The injury occurred on the third-to-last play of the Chargers' final scoring drive, when someone fell on Tomlinson and jammed his toe into the ground. Tomlinson will be playing on Sunday at Denver, so this does not appear to be anything to be worried about at this point.

10.5 points with a good defensive team ranked 3rd in the nation, isn't a terrible play for Greek

I just don't understand why everybody is so convinced Southern Cal is better than Ohio State, with or without Wells.

Ohio State was better than USC last year and has virtually everybody back (18 starters, not counting Wells). Southern Cal has far fewer players back and has an unproven QB. I still believe Ohio State plus all these points is a steal and they may win straight up.

Experience is huge early in the season and Ohio State has it. They also have great depth at RB so missing Beanie isn't the nightmare some believe.

Maybe people are reacting to SC's win over Virginia (52-7). Virginia is way worse than people realize.
