The best satire (and the best internet lies) are the ones that are just believable enough for people to bite.
The reason this is beautiful is because you can just imagine Favre actually saying something like this.

The Onion has been doing this stuff for years. A few years ago they did a piece quoting Monica Lewinsky as saying she was using Bill to get to Al Gore. Somebody took the Onion logo off the story and plastered on the web and a bunch of talk show hosts ran with it.
