We will update when projected scores are available.

      Tips and Trends
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays [FOX | 3:55 PM ET]

Yankees: Darrell Rasner hasn’t tasted victory since July 12. In his last two starts, Rasner has allowed 10 runs in just 9.1 innings of work. Being on the road won’t help Rasner’s slump. He’s just 2-6 with an ERA of 5.53 away from Yankee Stadium this year. Rasner has had success facing the Rays as a relief pitcher, going 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA. The OVER is a smart bet with Rasner on the hill. The OVER is 7-2-1 in his last 10 starts.

The Yankees are 0-5 in Rasner’s last 5 road starts vs. a team with a winning record.
The Yankees are 5-11 in Rasner's last 16 starts.

      Key Injuries - NONE

      PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Rays (NA): The Rays have won seven of the last eight games that Scott Kazmir has started. In his last 10 outings, Kazmir has allowed three runs or less eight times. Kazmir has been money at home, going 6-1 with a minuscule 2.30 ERA. Kazmir has been unlucky against the Yankees. He has an impressive 2.76 ERA in 10 starts versus the Bombers, yet his record is just 3-4. The OVER is 2-0-1 in Kazmir’s last three starts.

The Rays are 16-5 in Kazmir's last 21 starts.
The Rays are 10-2 in their last 12 during Game 3 of a series.

Key Injuries - OF Carl Crawford (.273; hand) is OUT indefinitely.
3B Evan Longoria (.278;wrist) is on the 15-day DL.

      PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Major League Baseball – Streaking Pitchers

        MLB

        Thursday, September 4

        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
        Streaking Starting Pitchers
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

        Thursday’s streaking and slumping pitchers

        Streaking

        Ervin Santana - Angels (14-5, 3.31)

Santana's performance this season is amazing considering he was in the minors this time last season. Now he's the ace pitcher for the AL-West-leading Angels.

The righty has accumulated 48 strikeouts compared to just six walks over his last six starts leading Los Angeles to victory in four of those contests.

        Slumping

        Brian Bannister - Royals (7-14, 5.75)

For all the promise Bannister showed last season you'd think the Kansas City pitcher wearing number 19 this season was an imposter. The former Met prospect was 12-9 with an ERA under 4.00 for the last place Royals in 2007.

This season has been a complete nightmare for the Arizona native. You could make a strong argument that if Bannister was pitching for any other team, he would not have only lost his position in the rotation but also his spot on the big club's roster.

The 27-year-old righty hasn't won a game since late June and his team has won just twice in his last 11 appearances.

Hot Lines: Thursday's best MLB bets
                ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pittsburgh Pirates at Cincinnati Reds (-120, 9 1/2)

The Pittsburgh Pirates' latest miserable season has included only three series sweeps. One of those sweeps came at the expense of the nearly-as-miserable Cincinnati Reds.

On Thursday afternoon, the Pirates go for their second sweep of the Reds in 2008, as the bottom two teams in the NL Central conclude their three-game set at Great American Ball Park.

Runs could be plentiful in a series finale pitting two struggling starters. Among NL hurlers with at least 75 innings pitched this season, the Reds' Josh Fogg (2-7, 7.29 ERA) owns the highest ERA, while Pittsburgh's Tom Gorzelanny (6-9, 6.61) has the second-highest.

                Pick: Over

San Diego Padres at Milwaukee Brewers (-230, 9)

Jeff Suppan may not be the biggest name on Milwaukee's staff, but the way he's pitched of late, he could be the right person to help the Brewers end their losing skid.

The veteran looks to win his sixth consecutive decision and help the wild-card leading Brewers avoid a fourth straight loss in the opener of a four-game home series with the San Diego Padres on Thursday night.

"You always want to contribute, and sometimes regardless if you win or lose, just going out there and throwing quality innings up there gives your team a chance," the 33-year-old Suppan said. "For whatever reason, that's where the streak has come from."

The Padres (53-86), who lost two of three to Milwaukee from Aug. 12-14, also enter this contest after being swept in three games. They lost their series finale 6-4 at Los Angeles on Wednesday.

                Pick: Brewers

                    PROJECTED SCORE: 4

Rays (-170, O/U 9): The Rays have won seven of the last eight games that Scott Kazmir has started.

Washington Redskins at New York Giants [NBC | 7 PM ET]

Redskins: Jim Zorn begins his coaching career on the road against the defending Super Bowl Champions. He’s installed a new West Coast offense that had mixed results in the preseason. Young quarterback Jason Campbell will have to orchestrate that offense behind a reshuffled offensive line. Veteran Jon Jansen has been benched in favor of Stephon Heyer, an undrafted free agent in 2007. Zorn has said that he wants his offense to play fast, so don’t expect any pre-snap motion from the Redskins this year, something that former coach Joe Gibbs used a lot. The Redskins defense should be stout once again, especially with the addition of future Hall of Famer Jason Taylor. The Giants may get a break though, as Taylor is a game-time decision after spraining his knee in the preseason.

Redskins are 28-11 ATS as a road underdog of 3.5 to 7 since 1992.
Redskins are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. NFC.

Key Injuries - S LaRon Landry (hamstring) is probable.
DE Jason Taylor (knee) is questionable.
WR Malcolm Kelly (knee) is OUT.

PROJECTED SCORE: 20 (Side Play of the Day)

Giants (-4.5, O/U 41): The Giants defense that tormented Tom Brady and the mighty Patriots in the Super Bowl won’t look the same in their opener versus the Redskins. Michael Strahan retired, Osi Umenyiora is out for the year, while LB’s Kawika Mitchell and Reggie Torbor, along with S Gibril Wilson, signed with other teams this offseason. Mathias Kiwanuka was moved from linebacker back to defensive end to replace Umenyiora. Justin Tuck, who had 10 sacks as a reserve last season, will replace Strahan. Expect the Giants to blitz a lot early in the year to get more pressure on the quarterback. While the Giants have won 11 straight games on the road, they need to learn how to win at home. New York has gone 3-5 at home in each of the last two seasons.
