Hot Lines: Saturday's best MLB bets
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Philadelphia Phillies at Chicago Cubs

While Aramis Ramirez's slam in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday pushed the run total to ten, amazingly the two NL teams in the top four in total bases, runs, and diggers have only had one other half inning where more than one run was scored. Both teams should feast on the average starting pitching taking the mound today, especially with the late afternoon start and perfect softball slugging weather at Wrigley. Ted Lilly's ERA is a half run worse at home (4.48) and he was shelled by the Phillies for five runs in just over four innings in his only appearance against the Phils this season. Some see Brett Myer's (1-7, 6.35 on the road) return from the minors thru rose-colored-glasses after 16 scoreless innings. The former curveball phenom has allowed more than a hit per inning in those last two starts. Philly fans argue he's been clutch, but it's more likely he's simply living dangerously. Overall, both line-ups are due and both should put-up a crooked number more than once as the fireworks start early in Chi-Town on Saturday.

      Pick: Over

      Minnesota Twins at Oakland Athletics

How often does a squad see three-straight southpaws (all with an ERA over four) from the same team's starting staff? Saturday, the Twins face this scenario by stepping to the dish against Dallas Braden (4.35 at home). Expect Minnesota hitters to look much more comfortable, especially after their 20-hit, 12-run performance last night. Facing a freakish lefty themselves (Francisco Liriano in August – 4-0, 1.21), Oakland can not feel as confident. The club is one of the few teams in the Majors with a lower batting average when compared to facing righties…and did we mention they bat .242 versus righties? If you're following the race in the Central, the White Sox have lost their mojo of late out East and did not capitalize on the Twins lousy opening to their road trip. With its swagger restored and Gardenhire's even keel approach with his overachievers, look for Minnesota to start pilling-up the wins again and take control of the Central by early next week.

      Pick: Twins

        Tips and Trends
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Philadelphia Phillies at Chicago Cubs [FOX | 3:55 PM ET]

Phillies: Brett Myers has been outstanding since returning from a stint in the minors, going 4-1 in seven starts with three no-decisions. The biggest difference for Myers has been keeping the ball in the park, as he has served up just two homers during that stretch after giving up 24 in his first 17 starts. Myers has been especially strong in winning his last two outings, pitching 16 scoreless innings with four walks and 17 strikeouts. However, both of those starts were at home, and he remains 1-7 on the road this season with a 6.35 ERA.

Phillies are 2-7 in their last 9 road games.
The OVER is 7-2 in Philadelphia's last 9 Saturday games.

Key Injuries - OF Geoff Jenkins (.246; hip) is on the 15-day DL.

        PROJECTED SCORE: 4

Cubs (-160, O/U 9) (NA): Chicago has gone 6-1 in Ted Lilly's last seven starts. Like Myers, Lilly has gone 4-1 during that stretch, although he has struggled a bit both at home and against the Phillies. Lilly is 6-4 in 13 starts at Wrigley Field with an inflated 4.48 ERA, and he is 1-2 in three career starts vs. Philadelphia with an even higher 5.19 ERA. He has also clearly benefit from strong run support in his last four wins, as the Cubbies have averaged 9.5 runs in those games.

Cubs are 7-0 in their last 7 games overall.
The OVER is 9-3 in Chicago's last 12 games vs. NL East.

        Key Injuries - NONE

        PROJECTED SCORE: 5

Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays [FOX | 3:55 PM ET]

Orioles: Daniel Cabrera faces a team he has never lost to in the Rays. Cabrera is a perfect 6-0 in 14 career starts vs. Tampa Bay to go along with a 3.63 ERA. He has faced the Rays three times this season though and did not get a decision in any of those games despite the Orioles going 2-1. Cabrera has struggled away from home this season with a 4-6 mark and 4.47 ERA in 16 starts.

Orioles are 8-21 in their last 29 games on field turf.
The OVER is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings at Tampa Bay.

        Key Injuries - NONE

        PROJECTED SCORE: 4

Rays (-175, O/U 10) (NA): Andy Sonnanstine will try to earn his third straight win at home and bounce back from a road loss at Chicago last time out. Sonnanstine gave up four runs and nine hits - including two homers - in 6.1 innings against the White Sox to snap a personal three-game winning streak overall. He is just 2-2 in four career starts against the Orioles with a 5.70 ERA.

Rays are 46-12 in their last 58 home games.
Rays are 21-7 in their last 28 games overall.

Key Injuries - C Dioner Navarro (.290; leg) is day-to-day.
3B Evan Longoria (.278; wrist) is on the 15-day DL.
OF Carl Crawford (.273; hand) is OUT for the season.

        PROJECTED SCORE: 6

Chicago White Sox at Boston Red Sox [WGN | 7:05 PM ET]

White Sox: Mark Buehrle has struggled on the road this season with a 3-7 mark and 4.16 ERA, and he will be making his first start away from home since August 2. Buehrle has made his last four starts at home, with his team emerging victorious each time. However, in his last two road starts, he has surrendered a combined 13 runs and 22 hits in 9.1 innings. Buehrle is 5-4 lifetime vs. Boston with a 4.16 ERA and earned a win against the Red Sox on August 8 during his recent run at home.

White Sox are 11-5 in their last 16 games overall.
The OVER is 12-5-2 in Chicago's last 19 road games.

Key Injuries - OF Dewayne Wise (.288; groin) is on the 15-day DL.

        PROJECTED SCORE: 5

Red Sox (-110, O/U 11) (NA): David Pauley will make just his second start of the season and first in the majors since back on April 22. Pauley pitched 4.1 innings against the Angels in that game, giving up five runs and seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts in an eventual 7-6 victory. He has gone 14-4 with a 3.55 ERA in 25 starts for Triple-A Pawtucket this year.

Red Sox are 10-2 in the last 12 meetings.
The OVER is 7-2-2 in Boston's last 11 games overall.

Key Injuries - OF J.D. Drew (.280; back) is on the 15-day DL.
3B Mike Lowell (.270; oblique) is on the 15-day DL.

        PROJECTED SCORE: 6
