  • LPGA to require English

    No this isnt a Rant

They are hoping this will save their sorry product. The Asian domination will continue and many of them dont speak English. They interview poorly and are probably not much fun during the Pro-Am for the Amateurs who pay the fees to play with them.

LPGA to mandate Koreans speak EnglishFrom correspondents in Portland, Oregon
August 27, 2008 THE LPGA Tour is going to force its burgeoning South Korean contingent of players to learn to speak English or risk losing their playing privileges.

Starting next year, the Tour announced that players who have been on the tour for two years must pass a oral English test or face suspension.

“This should be a priority in their professional development just the way working on their short game is a priority,'' LPGA Tour deputy commissioner Libby Galloway said.

“We just wanted to be clear about our expectations.

“What we would do is work with them on where they fell short, provide them the resources they need, the tutoring. And when we feel like they need to be evaluated again, we would evaluate.''

While the move is not specifically directed at the South Koreans it is obvious they will be heavily affected. There are 121 international players currently on the tour, including 45 South Koreans.

The new language rules were also discussed at a South Korean player meeting on August 20.

Five-time major winner Se Ri Pak agrees with the policy but favoured a fine as opposed to a suspension, according to Golfweek.com.

“We agree we should speak some English,'' the South Korean said. “We play so good overall. When you win, you should give your speech in English.

“Mostly what comes out is nerves. Totally different language in front of camera. You're excited and not thinking in English.''

They are a privatley run entity. They can do what they want.

It is all about the sponsors. If they think it will increase any revenue, they'll do it. More revenue means possibly larger purses...

A similar thing took place when NOW, National Organization for Women, took on August and the Masters.

            In the end Augusta prevailed.

It's an American organization. The players should speak English.

wow what a great step towards getting our country back to where it needs to be.Anyone country can take a 3yr old teach it to play a game 12 hrs a day at age 15 be better than any kid in america.Thing is Kids here go to school and alot of other activities that take away from thier main goal.Koreans can take a girl teach her golf 14 hrs a day and then everytime an american reporter ask's her a question she cant speak english.Problem is she probably cant count to 20 or read or write but all they are worried about is the machine {person}they are trying to make.
