MLB Relief Pitching

Understandably, there's been lots of bitching about the poor late inning pitching in MLB. In reality, the pitching has improved over the last few seasons.

I used the following criteria: pitchers blowing a 2 or more run lead in the 8 inning or later through the month of July in their respective season.

2008 68 blown leads
2007 74
2006 76
2005 56
2004 77

Over the complete season for each of the last few seasons:

2008 78 thru 8/23
2007 120
2006 117
2005 89
2004 120

In 2008 the Mets and Cards are the worst teams blowing 8 leads each using the above criteria. No other team has 6 blown leads.
