  • Red Sox acquire RHP Byrd from Indians

Red Sox acquired RHP Paul Byrd from the Indians for a player to be named later or cash.
With Tim Wakefield hurting and Clay Buchholz struggling, the Red Sox went out and got a veteran starter for the stretch run. Byrd is 7-10 with a 4.53 ERA and the 37-year-old will be a free agent after the season. With Charlie Zink scheduled to start in Wakefield's place Wednesday, the Red Sox could either bump him from the rotation after one outing or replace Buchholz, who's scheduled to pitch Friday. For the Indians, Aaron Laffey is the obvious choice to replace Byrd in the rotation after having some success earlier this season.

I would hate this signing if I was RedSox fan, but he does have 4 good outings in a row.

All I have to say is he really must suck if the Yanks didn't try and block this with their stellar rotation

They have no starting pitching, they're just throwing out scrubs daily
Posada, Matsui, Chamberlin, Wang, and they're old

I think TB is done also, losing Crawford and Longoria is too much, the RedSox should be able to run them down.

TB has 2 big series @ Oakland and @ Texas and then they come home to play Anaheim. After Anaheim, they go on the road again and play 3 at the CWS. We'll see where they are after those 4 series. It's a tough time and tough stretch to lose Crawford and Longoria though!
