  • Red Sox add knuckler to replace Wakefield

    MLB.com

CHICAGO -- Tim Wakefield is on the DL, but the Red Sox will still have a knuckleballer pitching on Tuesday.
Right-hander Charlie Zink is being called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to replace Wakefield, who has been shut down for the next couple of weeks with shoulder pain.

In 25 starts for the PawSox this season, Zink has gone 13-4 with a 2.89 ERA.

Is the Sox farm system depleted or do they think this guy is legit?

He was an All Star 2 years ago in AA and a All Star this year in AAA. He deserves a shot. Him being a knuckleball pitcher doesn't make him the best "Prospect" but hey, it's working for him and it worked for Wakefield. He has a tough lineup to face tonight though. We'll see .........

Wow-he is a 160 favorite-thats a pretty big line for someone making his first start against a great hitting team-of course, the Rangers' starter isn't exactly a bargain either.
