  • Rays land Bay for Brignac

A source told MLB.com that the Rays will get Jason Bay from the Pirates for Reid Brignac and Jeff Niemann.
It's a very good trade for the Rays if true. Brignac is one of the game's top infield prospects, but the Rays were able avoid surrendering a second top-notch talent for a player they'd have under control at a very modest price through the end of 2009. If the Pirates trade Bay without getting an outfielder, they could call up Nyjer Morgan to help out. Andrew McCutchen is another possibility, but there's little reason to think he's ready.

Great move by the Rays. This AL East race is going to be verry interesting. Also, the Pirates have turned themselves into a nice team to fade in August/Sept. If McClouth or Doumit are injured sometime in the last 2 months im going to fade the shit out of this team, they actually had a nice lineup before they traded Nady & Bay. But still no pitching.

Not a bad trade trade for the Rays. I assume Cinci was asking for too much to give up Dunn and they probably assume Beckham is their SS of the future anyways. I considered Niemann the 5th best pitching prospect in the Rays system and he'll probably join the Pirates rotation immediately.
