          SCOREBOARD

          Sunday, July 20

Toronto at Tampa Bay (1:40 p.m. EDT). Scott Kazmir (7-5), the winning pitcher in the All-Star game Tuesday, faces the Blue Jays.

          STARS

          Saturday

-Erick Aybar, Angels. The pinch-hitter hit a bases-clearing triple to highlight a four-run seventh, and Los Angeles rallied for a 4-2 victory over Boston.

-Evan Longoria, Rays, hit his first career grand slam to help AL East-leading Tampa Bay past Toronto, 6-4.

-Justin Morneau, Twins, had a three-run double and a two-run homer in Minnesota's 14-2 win over Texas.

-Luke Scott, Orioles, homered in the bottom of the 10th, and Baltimore rallied from a six-run deficit to beat Detroit 11-10.

-Albert Pujols, Cardinals, had three hits and four RBIs, helping St. Louis rally from five runs down to beat San Diego 6-5.

-Dan Haren, Diamondbacks, threw seven scoreless innings and struck out seven in Arizona's 3-2 win over the Dodgers.

          INJURY

Houston Astros ace Roy Oswalt was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained hip and a herniated disk in his back. Oswalt (7-8, 4.56 ERA) underwent an MRI that confirmed a strained left hip abductor and revealed the disk problem. But manager Cecil Cooper said Oswalt should be ready to start again on July 28 for the opener of a three-game series with Cincinnati.

          SWINGING BACK

David Ortiz homered for the third straight game during a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket. The Boston Red Sox slugger has been sidelined since May 30 because of a partially torn tendon sheath in his wrist. He went 1-for-4.

          NEW JOB

Orioles left-hander Adam Loewen has abandoned his career as a pitcher because of a stress fracture in his left elbow, the same injury that sidelined him last season and twice put him on the disabled list this year. Loewen, 24, intends to return to the majors as an outfielder.

          THE AGONY OF VICTORY

The Yankees beat Oakland when Jose Molina was hit by Lenny DiNardo's pitch with the bases loaded. The last time New York won on a game-ending hit by pitch, it was Clete Boyer who was plunked on July 15, 1965, against the Washington Senators.

          BULLPEN SESSION

Atlanta's Tom Glavine threw off the bullpen mound for the first time since landing on the disabled list in early June because of a strained left elbow, and said he was encouraged by his work. Glavine said he threw about 40 pitches at about 60 percent effort and said "it went all right.'' He said he tried all his pitches.

          PAYBACK

One-time Seattle prospect Shin-Soo Choo homered and had two doubles and three RBIs for Cleveland in a 9-6 win over the Mariners. This weekend is Choo's first trip back to Safeco Field since the trade that sent him east and brought Ben Broussard to Seattle.

          PENNANT FEVER

The Phillies at Marlins game drew 26,520 fans, giving the Marlins home crowds above 20,000 in consecutive games for the first time this season. They're last in the majors in attendance.

          WHEW

The Indians beat the Mariners 9-6 to snap a 10-game road losing streak.

          HOMER STREAK

Prince Fielder hit his 20th homer of the season for Milwaukee. It marked the 15th consecutive game in which the Brewers have homered, tying the third-longest streak in franchise history. The club record is 19, set in 1996.

          STATS

Yankees pitchers had 18 strikeouts in all Saturday against Oakland, their most since fanning 19 on April 29, 2001, in a 17-inning game at Toronto. ... The Orioles' 11-10 victory over Detroit ended Baltimore's string of nine straight one-run losses. ... After winning 10 in a row and moving into a first-place tie with Philadelphia in the NL East, the Mets have dropped two in a row.

          MILESTONE

Ken Griffey Jr. doubled for the 1,133rd extra-base hit of his career, tying Tris Speaker for 11th on the career list. Ty Cobb is 10th with 1,140.

          SPEAKING

"It does resemble a softball game a little bit. We've got some guys going up there taking healthy hacks, and the Phillies are the same way. The game is never over.'' - Cody Ross, Marlins, on the back-and-forth game that Florida won 9-5 behind three home runs.
