I was just thinking that exact thought when I saw the title of your thread. They are going to have a long 2nd half.

He does have 11 hr's.
I will say this-I think getting him is a better move for Yankees than picking up Bonds all things considered.
If Ortiz wasn't healthy, I wouldn't mind having him as a player on the Sox for the same reasons as stated in first line.

Well I guess all 30 GM's of the baseball teams who are a lot "savvier" than me must all be wrong too;they don't want him even though he agreed to accept the MINIMUM salary!

You lose 2 big left handed batters in Damon and Matsui and you sign Sexson over Bonds ... who has said he would play for the league minimum? Are they freakin' serious. Wouldn't Bonds be the best fit to replace lefties and in Yankee Stadium???

They did it because they can't hit lefties (something like .240 Avg .versus lefties, .275 Avg versus righties). Even on a small sample Sexon hit like .340 against lefties. Matsui was a beast against lefties (like .350). So they will split time with Giambi at first, but Giambi will still most likely play full time (between first and DH. Most time lost will be Betemit.

It solves none of their big issues. Cost them $350K for the rest of the year. They are just not budging on deals this year. Oh well

I think the problem is that when each owner looks around and sees that no other owner interested in Bonds' services, it makes him also very wary;there is a snowballing effect so to speak.
He is regarded as damaged goods at this point, and the fear of the possible negative impact he would have on the team and how he would be regarded by the fans far outweighs any positive impact he would have(I am not saying this is true but is just my perception as to how he is regarded and why no one has signed him and probably will not).
