  • WHY DID THE A's TRADE HARDEN ANYWAY??

i mean they are still in the ***** of things in the american league and they gave up their ace at the midway point.they are only 4 games out in the west and still very alive in the wild card race.did they just give up or what?i really don't understand the move they made there.

they don't score a lot of runs so you would figure they need all the good pitching they can get and yet they trade their ace away.maybe im missing something but they act like they are in last place and 20 games behind,...oh well i guess we will see what happens from here on in.

Wondered that myself, of course it's not uncommon for Billy Beane to go against the grain. I'm sure there's another plan there somewhere.

All I know is, Billy Beane doesn't make a habit of getting fleeced. His deals may look lopsided when they are made, but they continue to stockpile and keep their budget intact.

If Rich Harden stays off the DL, it will be a great short-term deal for the Blue Bears, but if not....they gave up a lot.
You can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you might find, you get what you need.

I know everybody thought Arizona "stole" Dan Haren in the winter, but Brett Anderson and Dana Eveland are two good starters and Chris Gonzalez gets some playing time as a backup OF, and three other players help with re-stocking the farm system.

Harden was acquired for Mark Mulder three years ago, and I think we all know which GM got the better end of that deal, though it may not have seemed it at the time either.

          We shall see.

It was a move that had to be made by beane. He's been trying to deal Harden for a while now but couldn't get fair value with Harden's injury history.

Also, they have Gio Gonzalez who is supposedly an ace in the making coming up and possibly joining the team after the All-Star break. So in the A's minds they may not feel like they lost any pitching with additions of Gallagher and Gonzalez.

harden had 2 bad starts in a row for Oakland i think this was a time to sell high.If he would have gotten hurt again soon or knocked around by the good hitting american league teams his value would have taken a drastic hit.I think he traded when he knew he could still get something great in return.

They had been trying to work a deal for a while. It had nothing to do with recent outings. Nothing at all.
