Mets fans and Phillies fans are starting to sound the exact same. Dude, you guys have Cole Hamels and no other starting pitching, would did you expect? 6 games over .500 and in first place? You should be happy with that.

please don't judge Phillies fans by the way Jimmy acts...he is clearly NOT a fan. The only thing he is a fan of is complaining.

Jimmy is your internet broke? I know you aree dieing to get back on that wagon. It's a shame you're not a fan because you sure would have enjoyed watching the Phils beat the Mets with Santana on the hill. Oh did you happen to catch that big 2 out hit Ryan Howard had to tie up the game?????? I think he leads the NL in R.B.I.'s.....man he sucks.
Signed,
Homer

I'm in FL and have missed the last 2 games...I still think their hitting is inconsistent and they need CC...if they do make the playoffs, sorry, but I'm worried they will struggle again against top-notch pitching. And u will never get my pt about Ryan Howard...smply put, no guy making 10 million batting 4th on a supposed WS-contender should be hitting .220 at this pt in the season and strike out as much as he does...u keep bringing up RBIs, but I'll keep bringing up batting average.Last edited by LVJimmy; 07-05-2008, 11:40 AM.

Does BA really matter that much? I mean seriously ... If a guy is hitting .220 with 100 rbi's or .270 with 100 rbi's ....... What does it matter? It shows one thing and that is at least Howard is making the best of his hits and every one of them are usually productive. The guy is on pace for 140 RBI's. That is what a cleanup guy does. If you want a great average hitter, take one and put him at the top of your lineup to set the table for others. The guy produces a TON of runs and that is really all that matters. Sure, he could do that and hit .330 but give the guy a break, not everyone is Ty Cobb!

Ryan Howard batting .223 has
22 HR's (3rd in all of MLB) 73 RBI's (2nd in all of MLB) 54 Runs Scored (24th in all of MLB)
Matt Holiday batting .339 has
12 HR's (60th in all of MLB) 45 RBI's (58th in all of MLB) 47 Runs Scored (62nd in all of MLB)
Would you rather have Holliday based soley on average? He gets the same pay as Howard does so i thought he was a great example. Average isn't making Holliday any more productive than Howard, in fact, Howard is kicking his ass!
Some guys hit for average and steal bases. People do not rip on them for finishing the year with only 9 HR's and 60 RBI's. Why? Because they are leadoff hitters and it isn't what they are paid to do? Well, Howard is paid to hit HR's and drive guys in and he does a great job of it no matter what his average is. Why do we shit on him for average but not others for lack of HR's or RBI's? Guys do some things much better than others and Howard is no different. He has a MVP Award on his shelf too. The guy is a stud and hopefully his average improves a little. Strikeouts and bad average would mean alot more if he wasn't being productive but that clearly isn't the case and his numbers prove it.

Not saying Howard should be anywhere near .339, but imagine his RBI #s if he hit .270...chk his BA since he as a rookie...it's come down a lot every year...sorry, but we can just agree to disagree on this one...high HR and RBI #s or not, I just can't agree that it's ok for a guy to hit .220 and break his own strikeout record each yearLast edited by LVJimmy; 07-05-2008, 06:01 PM.
