        Update

        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
        Tips and Trends
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chicago Cubs at Toronto Blue Jays [WGN | 1:07 PM ET]

Cubs: Ted Lilly is 6-2 with two no-decisions in his last 10 starts, with the Cubs coming out on the winning end in seven of those games. Over that stretch, Lilly has allowed three runs or less eight times. He hasn't had much success on the road this year, going 2-3 with an ERA of 5.22 in seven starts. Lilly is 1-1 in his career versus Toronto, allowing Jays hitters to bat .280 against him. The OVER is 5-1 in Lilly's last five starts.

Cubs are 25-10 in their last 35 games overall.
Cubs are 6-2 in Lilly's last 8 starts.

Key Injuries - OF Alfonso Soriano (.283; broken hand) is out at least 6 weeks.

        PROJECTED SCORE: 4

Blue Jays (-120, O/U 8.5): The Blue Jays are on a two-game losing streak with Jesse Litsch on the mound after dropping close decisions to the Mariners and Yankees. Litsch wasn't sharp in either outing, giving up 20 hits and six runs in 11.1 innings of work. Litsch is perfect at home on the season, going 3-0 with a strong 2.97 ERA in six starts. The UNDER is 3-1 in Litsch's last four starts.

Blue Jays are 8-1 in their last 9 Sunday games.
Blue Jays are 6-2 in their last 8 interleague games.

        Key Injuries - NONE

        PROJECTED SCORE: 5

Boston Red Sox at Cincinnati Reds [NESN | 1:15 PM ET]

Red Sox (-155, O/U 9): Josh Beckett has had a hard time getting into the win column recently, going just 1-1 with two no-decisions in his last four starts. Over that span, Beckett has only allowed nine runs over 25 innings but hasn't received much run support. Beckett can't be thrilled about the prospects of playing the Reds. In two career starts against Cincy, Beckett is 0-2 with an unfathomable 14.14 ERA. The UNDER is 3-1 in Beckett's last four appearances.

Red Sox are 11-4 in their last 15 games overall.
Red Sox are 45-10 in their last 55 interleague games.

Key Injuries - DH Manny Ramirez (.301; hamstring) is questionable.
C Jason Varitek (.257; strep throat) is questionable.
SS Julio Lugo (.268; upset stomach) is probable.

        PROJECTED SCORE: 5

Reds: Homer Bailey has had a tough time since being called up from the minors. He's lost both of his starts and didn't pitch well in either outing. Bailey has allowed seven walks, 12 hits and 10 runs in just 10 innings of work this season. Bailey's last start was at home against the Cardinals but he only lasted 3.2 innings before he was pulled. Surprisingly, both of the games Bailey started went UNDER the total.

Reds are 14-4 in their last 18 home games.
Reds are 6-14 in their last 20 games as an underdog.

        Key Injuries - NONE

        PROJECTED SCORE: 4

New York Yankees at Houston Astros [YES | 2:05]

Yankees (-135, O/U 9): After going six consecutive starts without recording a win, Chien-Ming Wang finally got over the hump in his last outing versus the A's. Wang got the victory after allowing just one run over seven innings. Wang's problems this season have all taken place at Yankee Stadium. He's a perfect 4-0 on the road to go along with a strong 2.38 ERA. Despite Wang's recent inconsistency, the Yankees have won the last four games that he's taken the mound.

Yankees are 21-7 in their last 28 Sunday games.
The UNDER is 15-7 in New York's last 22 road games.

        Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 6 (Side Play of the Day)

Astros: Roy Oswalt isn't having a Roy Oswalt-kind of season so far in 2008. He's just 5-6 with an ERA over 5.00. After going 0-3-1 over a four-game stretch in May, Oswalt pitched well in his last outing. He got the win over Milwaukee after striking out 10 and allowing just one run over seven innings. Oswalt is 3-1 at home this season, although he does posses an ERA of 5.59. The UNDER is 4-1 in Oswalt's last five starts.

Astros are 3-13 in their last 16 games overall.
The OVER is 7-2 in Houston's last 9 interleague home games.

        Key Injuries - NONE

        PROJECTED SCORE: 3

Atlanta Braves at Los Angeles Angels [ESPN | 5:05 PM ET]

Braves: Jorge Campillo has been fantastic for the Braves since entering their starting rotation in mid-May. In his 24.1 innings pitched as a starter, Campillo has allowed just seven runs. The Braves are 4-1 over that span. In nine appearances as a starter and relief pitcher on the road this season, Campillo possesses a nearly unhittable 0.47 ERA. The UNDER is 4-0-1 in games Campillo has started this year.

The UNDER is 8-3 in Atlanta's last 11 Sunday games.
The UNDER is 20-8-1 in Atlanta's last 29 interleague games.

Key Injuries - RP Rafael Soriano (3 saves; elbow) is on the 15-day DL.

PROJECTED SCORE: 3 (UNDER - Total Play of the Day)

Angels (-145, O/U 8.5): Joe Saunders was cruising along this season until he ran into the Rays his last time out. Tampa hammered Saunders to the tune of nine hits and eight runs in just 4.2 innings. Actually, after starting the year on fire, Saunders is just 1-2 in his last three appearances. During that three-game stretch, Saunders has allowed 17 runs in 16.2 innings of work. The OVER has cashed in each of Saunders' last two starts.

Angels are 18-6 in their last 24 interleague games.
The UNDER is 21-7-1 in LA's last 29 home games.

Boston Celtics at Los Angeles Lakers [ABC | 9 PM ET]

Celtics: Boston is definitely proving that defense wins championships, although the team's job isn't done yet. The Celtics had outrebounded an opponent in eight straight games until Game 4 on Thursday, as the Lakers held a 41-40 edge. With center Kendrick Perkins and point guard Rajon Rondo still nursing injuries, they must find a way to continue their stellar defense if they hope to close out this series in LA. If they can do that, Paul Pierce and his teammates will finally get to celebrate an NBA championship, which would be extra sweet for him considering he grew up in Inglewood. "I think I was too hyped for (Game 3)," Pierce said. "I think I got caught up in the opportunity of playing at home and having a chance to go up 3-0 in the series. I've got to calm down if I want to do well here."

Celtics are 6-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings.
The UNDER is 7-0 in Boston's last 7 road games.

Key Injuries - G Rajon Rondo (10.6 ppg; sprained ankle) is questionable.
C Kendrick Perkins (6.9 ppg; shoulder) is questionable.

          PROJECTED SCORE: 92

Lakers (-7, O/U 190.5): While no team has ever come back from being down 3-1 in the NBA Finals (0-for-28), half of those teams did bounce back in Game 5 to force at least a Game 6. This could be Phil Jackson's toughest coaching job ever, trying to convince his team that this series is not over. "I'm a realist; it happened,"Jackson said. "It is what it is. At the same time, there are a lot of positive things that we did." Of course he was referring to his team's historic collapse, building the biggest first-quarter lead ever in the NBA Finals only to watch it all slip away. LA star Kobe Bryant took another approach. "Whine about it tonight," he said. "A lot of wine, a lot of beer, a couple shots - maybe 20 of them. ****** it. Get back to work (Friday). Nothing you can do."

Lakers are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games as a favorite.
The UNDER is 8-1 in LA's last 9 games overall.

          Key Injuries - NONE

            SCOREBOARD
            Monday, June 16

Boston at Philadelphia (7:05 p.m. EDT). Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez and Phillies slugger Ryan Howard face off as these two first-place teams meet in interleague play.

            STARS
            Saturday

            - Kevin Youkilis, Red Sox, singled, doubled and hit a tiebreaking homer in the 10th inning, rallying Boston to a 6-4 victory over Cincinnati, the team he adored as a local prep and college star.

            - Kevin Kouzmanoff, Padres, hit a grand slam in a five-run 10th inning, and San Diego beat Cleveland 8-3.

            - Mike Aviles, Royals, had four hits, including a homer, and Kansas City beat Arizona 12-3.

            - Rich Harden, Athletics, pitched one-hit ball for six innings and matched his season high with nine strikeouts, leading Oakland to a 4-0 win over San Francisco.

            - Charlie Morton, Braves, allowed three runs and five hits in six innings to win in his major league debut, a 9-4 win over the Angels.

            MILESTONE

Mike Mussina pitched six solid innings for his 10th win, the Yankees' 8-4 victory over the Astros Saturday night. Mussina (10-4) allowed three runs and six hits to reach 10 wins for the 17th straight season, extending his American League record. It's the third time in his career and the first time since 2003 he's done it within 15 starts.

            PAYBACK

St. Louis' Kyle Lohse pitched a season-high eight innings of four-hit ball against the Phillies, the team that failed to re-sign him after last season. Lohse (8-2) was hurt only by Pat Burrell's two-run homer in the fourth as the Cardinals beat Philadelphia 3-2. The Phillies offered Lohse a three-year contract for around $21 million after he helped them make the playoffs last fall, but he held out for a better deal before settling for a one-year, $4.25 million free agent deal with the Cardinals in mid-March.

            REPLAY

Prince Fielder thought he had ended the Brewers' extra-inning game against the Twins in the 10th inning with a drive off the center-field wall that highlighted the discussion for instant replay. Fielder's shot appeared to hit the yellow line, but not go over the wall after Carlos Gomez attempted a leaping catch. According to the ground rules at Miller Park, a ball that goes over the yellow line on the top of the outfield fence in flight is a homer, if it strikes the line and bounces back it is not. Fielder pumped his fists before hurrying for a triple. After a short discussion by the umpire crew, the call stood. Minnesota went on to win 9-4 in the 12th.

            UP AND DOWN AND UP

Tyler Clippard (2-0), who started Monday, was sent to the minors Tuesday then recalled for Saturday, got the win in the Nationals' 5-2 victory over Seattle. He went six-plus innings, allowing seven hits and two runs.

            STRONG START

Jason Marquis (5-3) faced one batter over the minimum during the first four innings and didn't allow a hit until Lyle Overbay led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to right-center. Marquis departed after seven-plus innings having allowed one run on four hits while striking out one in the Cubs' 6-2 win over the Cubs on Saturday.

            SLUMPING

The Dodgers' 12-7 loss to Detroit was their fourth straight defeat. They have lost 16 of their last 22.

            WELCOME BACK

Jonny Gomes homered in his first at-bat since serving a five-game suspension for his part in a bench-clearing brawl, leading the Tampa Bay Rays to a 4-1 victory over the Florida Marlins on Saturday night.

            SNAPPED

The Colorado Rockies ended Chicago's nine-game home winning streak with a 2-0 win over the White Sox on Saturday night.

            SHELLED

Arizona's Randy Johnson (4-4) gave up eight runs-seven earned-and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings of a 12-3 loss to Kansas City on Saturday.

            QUICK FEET

Colorado's Willy Taveras stole a career-high five bases and the Rockies beat the White Sox 2-0.

            STAT

The Orioles rallied for an 8-7 win over Pittsburgh on Saturday and improved to 15-9 in one-run games after going 13-31 in that situation last season.

            SPEAKING

"I've done this before. It's a good thing we stuck around. We had some good routines going. It was awesome. We’re just having fun tonight. We haven't had any rain problems this year, so we might as well have some fun."-Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler on his headfirst dive across the wet tarp at Shea Stadium. The Rangers and Mets game was rained out.

                  NBA Games

Celtics will try to win the NBA title in Game 5 tonight; so far in this series, they've outscored Lakers 116-73 in third quarter, so you have to give coaching edge to Rivers and his staff for any adjustments made during halftime. Lakers led 35-14 after first quarter in Game 4, the largest first quarter lead in Finals history and they lost, so you figure series is over, since 28 teams have been down 3-1 in NBA Finals before, and none of them won a title, but you never know. Eddie House was +20 in Game 4, so Lakers outscored Boston by 14 while he was on bench; will be interesting to see how much he plays tonight.
