        NY Yankees at Houston
The Astros will look to bounce back from yesterday's loss to New York and build on their 5-3 record as a home underdog between +100 and +125 behind starter Wandy Rodriguez, who comes in with a 0.72 ERA in four home appearances. Houston is the pick (+110) according to Dunkel, which has the Astros favored straight up by 1. Dunkel Pick: Houston (+110). Here are all of today's games.

          Gameday
          --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

          MLB Saturday Gameday

Interleague play returns to Major League Baseball this weekend, but the series to watch may actually be in the National League where the NL East-leading Phillies take on the NL Wild Card-leading Cardinals.

Chicago Cubs at Toronto Blue Jays - 1:07 pm ET
          Jason Marquis (4-3, 4.54) vs. Roy Halladay (8-5, 3.07)

Marquis improved to 3-0 in his last five starts after tossing a gem against the Dodgers in his last outing. Marquis went six 1-3 innings against Los Angeles, allowing one unearned run on three hits in the win.

Halladay won his fourth straight start last week despite a mediocre outing by his standards, in which he gave up four runs on eight hits while striking out seven in seven 2-3 innings. The Jays are undefeated in Halladay's last six starts.

Boston Red Sox at Cincinnati Reds - 3:55 pm ET
          Tim Wakefield (4-4, 4.33) vs. Edinson Volquez (9-2, 1.56)

Wakefield had his knuckleball dancing in his last start when he held Seattle to two runs on five hits in seven innings. That was Wakefield's first win since May 6, but it was also his third straight quality start.

Volquez recorded another win in his last start against Florida after holding the Marlins to three runs on three hits in six innings. However, Volquez didn't have his best stuff in the win as he walked five. In his last eight starts Volquez is 5-1 and the Reds are 7-1 in those eight games.

Philadelphia Phillies at St. Louis Cardinals ? 3:55 pm ET
          Adam Eaton (2-3, 4.62) vs. Kyle Lohse (7-2, 3.92)

After going without a win for nearly the first two months of the season, Eaton is finally figuring things out after going 2-0 in his last three starts. Last time out Eaton picked up a no-decision after allowing three runs on eight hits in six innings.

Lohse is 4-0 in his last four starts and has quickly turned things around again after a few rough outings in May. In his last start Lohse earned the win after allowing three runs on five hits over six innings versus Houston.

Oakland Athletics at San Francisco Giants - 9:05 pm ET
          Rich Harden (3-0, 2.85) vs. Matt Cain (3-4, 4.43)

Harden turned in another quality in his last outing, but he had to settle for another no-decision after allowing three runs on six hits with nine strikeouts over six innings against the Angels. That was Harden's fifth straight quality start.

Cain recorded his first win since May 13 in his last start after pitching six 1-3 innings against Washington and allowing one run on eight hits while striking out six. The Giants were 0-4 in Cain's previous four starts before he finally recorded a win against the Nationals.

            Saturday, June 14

            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
            Tips and Trends
            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Philadelphia Phillies at St. Louis Cardinals [FOX | 3:55 PM ET]

Phillies (-115, O/U 9.5): Adam Eaton is really pitching well of late, going 2-0 with a no-decision in his last three starts, all resulting in wins for the Phillies. Eaton has allowed just five runs in his last 18.2 innings of work. Even though he's pitched well recently, this doesn't appear to be a good spot for Eaton. He's winless on the road this year and has a record of 1-4 with a 6.82 ERA in seven career starts versus the Cardinals. In those seven games, Cardinal hitters are batting a robust .331 against him. The UNDER is 3-1 in Eaton's last four starts overall.

            Key Injuries - NONE

            PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Cardinals: Kyle Lohse is having a strong season for the Cards, going 7-2 with a 3.92 ERA. Lohse has been on fire of late, winning four consecutive starts. In his last 23 innings pitched, He has only allowed a total of five runs and has faired well at home, going 3-1 with an ERA of 3.24 in eight starts. Three of Lohse's last four starts have gone UNDER the total.

Key Injuries - 1B Albert Pujols (.347; calf) is on the 15-day DL.

            PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Boston Red Sox at Cincinnati Reds [FOX | 3:55 PM ET]

Red Sox: Tim Wakefield broke a five-game winless streak his last time out by getting a victory at home against the Mariners. Wakefield pitched seven strong innings, allowing just two runs. Wakefield has struggled away from Fenway Park, going 1-3 with a 4.62 ERA on the road this season. The OVER is 4-2 in Wakefield's last six starts, and the knuckleballer has a lofty 7.80 ERA in two career appearances against the Reds.

Key Injuries - OF Manny Ramirez (.302; hamstring) is OUT.

            PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Reds (-135, O/U 9): There's no hotter pitcher in MLB right now than Edinson Volquez. Over his last 10 starts, Volquez hasn't allowed more than three runs in any outing. He is especially tough at Great American Ballpark, where he's 5-0 with an ERA of 1.69. The only negative with Volquez this season has been walks. He's allowed 43 walks in 81 innings pitched. This will be Volquez's first career appearance against the Red Sox.

            Key Injuries - NONE

            PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Los Angeles Dodgers at Detroit Tigers [FOX | 3:55 PM ET]

Dodgers: Brad Penny is mired in a miserable slump right now. He hasn't won a game since May 2nd and is 0-6-1 in his last seven outings. Penny has actually pitched pretty well in his last two starts but didn't receive any run support in losses to the Cubs and Rockies. In those two games, Penny only allowed five runs in 12 innings of work. The UNDER is 3-1 in Penny's last four starts.

            Key Injuries - NONE

            PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Tigers (-125, O/U 9.5): Eddie Bonine will be making his first career start Saturday after being called up from Triple A Toledo. Bonine was exceptional in the minors with the Erie Sea Wolves and Toledo Mud Hens, compiling a record of 24-7. Bonine was 9-2 with Toledo this season but his ERA was an unimpressive 4.48. He has been described as someone who isn't a hard thrower but gets a lot of ground ball outs. Bonine takes Dontrelle Willis' spot in the rotation after Willis was sent down to the minors earlier this week.

            Key Injuries - NONE

            PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Colorado Rockies at Chicago White Sox [WGN | 7:05 PM ET]

Rockies: Jorge De La Rosa is back in the starting rotation after spending some time in the Rockies bullpen. That's not good news for Colorado because De La Rosa has been awful as a starter. In his five starts this season, De La Rosa has given up a whopping 25 runs in just 23 innings pitched. He's 0-2 on the road with a ridiculous 9.26 ERA. De La Rosa did get the win in his only career start versus the White Sox.

            Key Injuries - NONE

            PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

White Sox (-200, O/U 10): John Danks continues to pitch well but also continues to receive little run support for his efforts. Danks is 3-3-4 in his last 10 starts, despite giving up two runs or less eight times. Danks has actually pitched better on the road than at home, where he's just 2-3 with an ERA of 4.50 this season. The UNDER is 7-3 in Danks' last 10 starts. This will be his first career appearance against the Rockies.

            Key Injuries - NONE

            PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

                SCOREBOARD

                Saturday, June 14

San Diego at Cleveland (7:05 p.m. EDT). Cha Seung Baek and the Padres attempt to slow down Indians left-hander Cliff Lee (10-1, 2.52 ERA), who will try to join Brandon Webb as the only 11-game winners in the majors.

                STARS

                Friday

                - Ryan Howard, Phillies, went 3-for-5 with two homers and five RBIs in Philadelphia's 20-2 rout of St. Louis.

                - Armando Galarraga, Tigers, pitched seven innings of three-hit ball in Detroit's 5-0 win over the Dodgers. Opponents are hitting .173 against the rookie, lowest in the majors for a qualifying pitcher.

                - Ian Stewart, Rockies, had two home runs in Colorado's 5-4 loss to the White Sox. It was the first multihomer game of Stewart's career and doubled his career total.

                - Oliver Perez, Mets, gave up a run and three hits in seven innings and New York routed Texas 7-1. Perez tied his season high with eight strikeouts and walked three.

                - Grady Sizemore, Indians, hit two home runs in Cleveland's 9-5 win over San Diego. Sizemore has four homers in the past three games and has hit in 10 straight games.

                BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK

Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Pat Burrell hit consecutive home runs in the first inning in the Phillies' 20-2 rout of St. Louis. The Phillies tied the major league season high for runs in a game, set by them on May 26 at home against the Rockies.

                EXTRA, EXTRA, EXTRA

The Diamondbacks played their franchise-record third straight extra-inning game, beating Kansas City 1-0 in 10 innings on Chad Tracy's home run. Arizona has won the past two after losing Wednesday to the Mets on Carlos Beltran's 13th-inning homer.

                EYRE TIGHT

Cubs left-hander Scott Eyre worked the eighth, extending his team record stretch of scoreless games to 33, covering 23 2-3 innings. Eyre hasn't allowed a run since Aug. 11, at Colorado.

                NO OFFENSE

The Dodgers managed three hits in a 5-0 loss to the Tigers and have lost three straight, managing to score just one run in those games. Los Angeles is hitting .138 in those games (13-for-94). The problem isn't exactly new; in their past 21 games, the Dodgers have been shut out four times and scored a single run in eight other games. They are 6-15 during that stretch.

                CUT

Reliever Juan Rincon rejected Minnesota's request to outright him to Triple-A Rochester and the Twins designated him for assignment. Minnesota asked Rincon on Thursday to accept the assignment, and his agent, Ed Setlik, said Friday he refused. The Twins cut the struggling right-hander before their game at Milwaukee. They have 10 days to trade Rincon or he will become a free agent.

                REHABBING

Cardinals left-hander Mark Mulder, recovering from two shoulder operations, will begin his second rehab stint on Saturday for Double-A Springfield, while Chris Carpenter experienced a setback. Carpenter was seen by team physician Dr. George Paletta on Friday for discomfort in his surgically repaired right elbow. The results of the exam were not immediately made available. Mulder appeared to be back on track for a mid-July return. ... Athletics designated hitter Frank Thomas was told to back off all baseball activities while he recovers from right quadriceps tendinitis. The A's 40-year-old slugger had hoped to rejoin Oakland next week but those plans were put on hold after Thomas showed little progress in his rehabilitation.

                OUCH

Braves third baseman Chipper Jones, who leads the majors with a .414 batting average, was scratched from the lineup against the Angels after a freak accident during batting practice. Jones fouled off a pitch, and the ball ricocheted off the crossbar at the top of the batting cage and struck him near the left eye. The five-time All-Star suffered a contusion and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Orange for a CT scan. The results came back negative, a team spokesman said.

                SNAPPED

Marlon Anderson of the Mets snapped an 0-for-25 slump with a base hit and also had a pair of RBIs in New York's 7-1 win over Texas. ... The Braves beat the Angels 5-2 to win in their first-ever visit to the Big A. It snapped a six-game road losing streak for Atlanta, which improved to 8-24 on the road, worst in the majors.

                SPEAKING

"That's why we projected him as a starter. He's not a one- or two-pitch guy. He's a four-pitch guy with a power arm.'' - Yankees manager Joe Girardi, commenting on Joba Chamberlain's split-finger fastball after Chamberlain pitched six strong innings in New York's 2-1 victory over Houston.

                SEASONS

                June 14

1952 - Warren Spahn of the Boston Braves struck out 18 Cubs in a 3-1, 15-inning loss to Chicago. Spahn also homered.

1963 - Duke Snider hit his 400th career home run to highlight a 10-3 triumph by the New York Mets over the Cincinnati Reds at Crosley Field.

1965 - Jim Maloney struck out 18 and no-hit the New York Mets for 10 innings, but Johnny Lewis' leadoff home run in the 11th inning gave the Mets a 1-0 win.

1969 - Reggie Jackson of Oakland knocked in 10 runs with two homers, a double and two singles against the Red Sox in Boston. In the eighth, he drove in three runs with a single when he easily could have made second base. Oakland won 21-7.

1974 - Nolan Ryan struck out 19 batters in 12 innings to give the California Angels a 4-3 win over the Boston Red Sox in 15 innings. Cecil Cooper of the Red Sox struck out six times in the game.

1978 - Pete Rose of the Cincinnati Reds had two hits in a 3-1 triumph over the Chicago Cubs to start his 44-game hitting streak.

1995 - Mike Benjamin went 6-for-7, setting a major league record with 14 hits in three games, and drove in the winning run in the 13th inning as the San Francisco Giants beat the Chicago Cubs 4-3.

2002 - Aaron Boone hit a pair of homers - one in the ninth inning to tie the game and one to win it in the 11th - off Pittsburgh closer Mike Williams as Cincinnati beat the Pirates 4-3.

2002 - With all 14 interleague games - and one NL game - taking place in National League parks, the DH was not employed anywhere throughout Major League Baseball.

2005 - Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki became the third player since 1900 to reach 1,000 hits in fewer than 700 games when he singled in the bottom of the first inning in Seattle's 3-1 win over Philadelphia. Suzuki's 1,000th hit came in his 696th game. Chuck Klein reached the mark in 1933 in 683 games, and Lloyd Waner reached it in 1932 in 686 games.

2005 - Chris Carpenter pitched a one-hitter and struck out 10 to lead St. Louis in a 7-0 win over Toronto.

2007 - Craig Monroe tied the major league record for strike outs in a nine-inning game when he whiffed five times in Detroit's 6-5 loss to Milwaukee.

Hot Lines: Saturday's best MLB bets
                    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New York Yankees at Houston (+111, 9 1/2)

When did Wandy Rodgriguez get so good? Houston's No. 3 starter has a career 4.91 ERA and has never had a winning season, but somehow he's turned into the second coming of Pedro Martinez this season. Rodriguez has hasn't allowed more than three earned runs since his first start of the season and as a result, the over/under is 1-5 when he takes the mound. He's not known as an efficient pitcher, so it helps that the Houston bullpen has been playing well.

The Yankees will put Mike Mussina on the hill and Moose been heating up lately with a 2.25 ERA in his last three starts. The under looks good with these two pitchers in the starting roles, but if you're worried about the Yankees' bats getting in a rhythm, don't be. New York is hitting just .255 on the road and they've played under in 24 of 35 away games this season.

                    Pick: Under

Oakland at San Francisco (+115, 7)

How's this for an understatement from Bruce Botchy: "We're in a rut right now and we know it, here at home," the Giants manager said.

A bit of a rut? They're 13-20 in their own park this season and they've lost 10 of their last 12 there. That's the Grand Canyon of ruts. And it's not going to get any better this weekend with Oakland visiting. The A's have won six of their last seven games against the Giants and with Rich Harden and his 2.85 ERA getting the ball today, that rut is probably going to get a little deeper.

                    Pick: A's

Phillies are 10-2 in the last 12 meetings at St. Louis.
The UNDER is 10-1 in Philadelphia's last 11 games overall.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

                      PROJECTED SCORE: 5

Cardinals: Kyle Lohse is having a strong season for the Cards, going 7-2 with a 3.92 ERA. Lohse has been on fire of late, winning four consecutive starts. In his last 23 innings pitched, He has only allowed a total of five runs and has faired well at home, going 3-1 with an ERA of 3.24 in eight starts. Three of Lohse's last four starts have gone UNDER the total.

Cardinals are 3-10 in the last 13 meetings overall.
The UNDER is 8-3-1 in St. Louis' last 12 games as an underdog.

Key Injuries - 1B Albert Pujols (.347; calf) is on the 15-day DL.

                      PROJECTED SCORE: 4

Boston Red Sox at Cincinnati Reds [FOX | 3:55 PM ET]

Red Sox: Tim Wakefield broke a five-game winless streak his last time out by getting a victory at home against the Mariners. Wakefield pitched seven strong innings, allowing just two runs. Wakefield has struggled away from Fenway Park, going 1-3 with a 4.62 ERA on the road this season. The OVER is 4-2 in Wakefield's last six starts, and the knuckleballer has a lofty 7.80 ERA in two career appearances against the Reds.

Red Sox are 4-11 in their last 15 road games.
Red Sox are 21-5 in their last 26 Saturday games.

Key Injuries - OF Manny Ramirez (.302; hamstring) is OUT.

                      PROJECTED SCORE: 3

Reds (-140, O/U 9): There's no hotter pitcher in MLB right now than Edinson Volquez.

Reds are 14-3 in their last 17 home games.
Reds are 10-1 in Volquez's last 11 starts.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 6 (Side Play of the Day)

Los Angeles Dodgers at Detroit Tigers [FOX | 3:55 PM ET]

Dodgers: Brad Penny is mired in a miserable slump right now. He hasn't won a game since May 2nd and is 0-6-1 in his last seven outings. Penny has actually pitched pretty well in his last two starts but didn't receive any run support in losses to the Cubs and Rockies. In those two games, Penny only allowed five runs in 12 innings of work. The UNDER is 3-1 in Penny's last four starts.

Dodgers are 2-10 in their last 12 road games.
The UNDER is 16-7 in LA's last 23 games overall.

Key Injuries - OF Matt Kemp (.294; suspension) is probable.
SS Rafael Furcal (.366; back) is on the 15-day DL.

                      PROJECTED SCORE: 5

Tigers are 38-16 in their last 54 interleague games.
The UNDER is 8-2-1 in Detroit's last 11 Saturday games.

Key Injuries - OF Clete Thomas (.292; sprained ankle) is on the 15-day DL.

PROJECTED SCORE: 3 (UNDER - Total Play of the Day)

Colorado Rockies at Chicago White Sox [WGN | 7:05 PM ET]

Rockies: Jorge De La Rosa is back in the starting rotation after spending some time in the Rockies bullpen. That's not good news for Colorado because De La Rosa has been awful as a starter. In his five starts this season, De La Rosa has given up a whopping 25 runs in just 23 innings pitched. He's 0-2 on the road with a ridiculous 9.26 ERA. De La Rosa did get the win in his only career start versus the White Sox.

Rockies are 2-9 in their last 11 interleague games.
Rockies are 6-20 in their last 26 road games.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

                      PROJECTED SCORE: 4

White Sox (-200, O/U 10): John Danks continues to pitch well but also continues to receive little run support for his efforts. Danks is 3-3-4 in his last 10 starts, despite giving up two runs or less eight times. Danks has actually pitched better on the road than at home, where he's just 2-3 with an ERA of 4.50 this season. The UNDER is 7-3 in Danks' last 10 starts. This will be his first career appearance against the Rockies.

White Sox are 20-7 in their last 27 home games.
The OVER is 10-3-1 in Chicago's last 14 games on grass.

Key Injuries - DH Jim Thome (.219; back) is questionable.

                      PROJECTED SCORE: 6
