Cubs wrap up first perfect seven-game homestand since '70

CHICAGO (AP) -- The Friendly Confines have never seemed friendlier, and that's a big reason why the Cubs are the best team in baseball entering June for the first time in 100 years.

Alfonso Soriano homered, Jim Edmonds drove in two runs, and the Chicago Cubs beat the reeling Colorado Rockies 5-3 on Sunday to complete a perfect seven-game homestand.

The Cubs entered June with the best record in baseball for the first time since 1908, when they last won a World Series. They started the new month by finishing a four-game sweep of the defending National League champions and sending them to their seventh straight loss.

Chicago is 26-8 at Wrigley Field after wrapping up its first perfect homestand of at least seven games since April 14-26, 1970. Now, they'll try to establish some momentum away from home.

The road has been far less friendly, and one concern is that they've played 11 more games at home than they have on the road.

That is unbelievable! Wonder if they still want to run Soriano out of town? I'd love him on my team! And Edmonds has been solid, surprisingly!

The cubs are playing well I guess. They beat the hell out of two teams that are collectively 19 games under 500.

Theyve beat the pirates 9 times this year also. Their schedule so far this year has been easy. Not meaning to take any credit from them though, their playing great ball.

Dont pop bottles yet cub fans its june 1.

What do you suggest they do MM? Show up to Fenway and make Boston play them every night?

You play the schedule you are given - I didn't hear to many of the Patriots fans complaining about their weak schedule last year...

I think Edmonds will prove to be a big pickup for them!

how many of the other teams have lost to the Pirates, and related teams on the Cubs schedule........

Give em credit...they're playing well, and try to hold back controversial statements.....IMO

Keep things smoothe, so people can "relax in here"...

Hey, the Cubbies have always been my favorite N.L. Team and Soriano has always been one of my favorite players. I hated the Yankees but i always loved his game even when he was there. I know what the pain feels like suffering forever waiting for that elusive WS Title too. If the Red Sox don't win it, the Cubs are always my 2nd choice!
