Pens are 0-8 on power play in series, failing to score in 12:23 with man advabtage. Detroit was 0-8 on power play in Game, 2, despite being man up for 13:20. Detroit vs. Pittsburgh (-140, 5)

The game was barely half a period old Monday night when bettors who had the Penguins began tearing up their tickets and changing the channel.

The Wings jumped out to a 2-0 lead and the Pens hadn't even gotten close enough to Chris Osgood to see what color pads he was wearing. And by the time the game was over, hockey followers were no longer asking who would win the Stanley Cup or even in how many games - they were just wondering if Pittsburgh will even be able to score a goal in this series.

The Wings won Game 2, 3-0, after claiming Game 1 by a score of 4-0, and there hasn't been too much from Pittsburgh?s side that resembles a quality scoring chance. Not surprisingly, the over/under has dropped for Game 3, but what is surprising is that the Penguins are favored.

A change in scenery from the Motor City to the Steel City is clearly the reason for the line shift and perhaps a vote of confidence from hockey personality Don Cherry didn't hurt either. Cherry said he expects the Pens to be a different team Wednesday night and give the Wings a tougher shot.

The crowd at Mellon Arena has helped lift the Penguins to an incredible 8-0 record in these playoffs, while three of Detroit's four playoff losses have come on the road.

The key will be getting some production. Six of Detroit's last seven games have seen only five goals or fewer, giving "under" bettors some extra cash.

The Pens could use some help from their season-leading scorer, Evgeni Malkin, who had no shots in Game 2 and he's now minus-3 in the series. Sidney Crosby, meanwhile, has been playing tough but hasn't had much support in the offensive zone.

Detroit is getting scoring from all kinds of places and the club's third and fourth lines are far outplaying their counterparts on the other side. Brad Stuart scored his first goal of the playoffs to open the scoring Monday night and that's just the kind of spark Pittsburgh could use Wednesday.

If trends are any indicator, the last three games at Mellon Arena have gone over the total.

          Pick: Red Wings

            Monday NHL Playoff Gameday

Detroit Red Wings at Pittsburgh Penguins, 8:00pm ET

Detroit's other winter team also cruised to a victory at home on Monday night, as the Red Wings blanked the Penguins 3-0 in the second game of the Stanley Cup final. The Wings have yet to allow a goal in this series - they got past Pittsburgh 4-0 in the series opener on Saturday night.

Brad Stuart, Tomas Holmstrom, and Valtteri Filppula scored for the Red Wings in their Game 2 victory, while Johan Franzen returned from his head injury and contributed an assist. Chris Osgood stopped all 22 Pittsburgh shots to earn his second straight shutout, while Penguins counterpart Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves between the pipes in the loss.

Pittsburgh scoring star Sidney Crosby managed six shots on goal in the contest but couldn't put one past Osgood. Evgeni Malkin, on the other hand, was held without a shot on goal and was a -2 on the night. Veteran forward Gary Roberts returned to the lineup for Pittsburgh and had a pair of shots and 14 PIMs.

Despite Detroit's domination so far the oddsmakers think the Penguins aren't dead yet - they were opened as -145 home favorites for Game 3. The total was opened at 5 goals.

Hot Lines: Wednesday's best MLB bets
                    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                    Toronto at Oakland (-115, 7)

Here are the facts: These two clubs have a combined over/under record of 36-63-7. Toronto's Roy Halladay (3.11) will get the start against Oakland's Rich Harden (2.93), pitting two of the game's nastiest right-handers against each other. If the bullpens are called on, that shouldn't be a problem either because Toronto has the best bullpen ERA in the bigs at 2.84 and Oakland isn't far behind at 3.10. Neither team is all that impressive at the plate with Toronto hitting .258 as a team and Oakland at .251. At McAfee Coliseum, those numbers aren't likely to improve because, according to ESPN's "ballpark factor", Oakland's ballpark is the fourth toughest park for hitters in the American League. Seven runs is about as low as a total gets, but when absolutely everything is pointing to the under, it's just too hard to resist.

                    Pick: Under

                    Atlanta at Milwaukee (-120, 9 ½)

Jeff Suppan hasn't fared well against the Braves throughout his career. As a Cardinal and as a Brewer, Suppan is 0-4 against Atlanta with a 7.96 ERA, but he'll get a chance to break that trend today as he makes his first start against the Braves in Milwaukee, where he's had good results since arriving last season. Overall, the Brewers are performing much better at home, while the Braves are awful on the road with a 6-17 record. Atlanta's awesome .282 team batting average dips to .250 on the road, which should benefit Suppan who went 9-3 with a 3.87 ERA in Milwaukee last season.

Jo-Jo Reyes will start for the Braves. The lefty hasn't looked good in his five starts, particularly on the road, where he's got a 6.75 ERA.

                    Pick: Brewers

New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles [YES| 7:05 PM ET]

Yankees (-130, O/U 9): After losing four games in a row, Andy Pettitte righted the ship against the struggling Mariners. In that game Pettitte went six strong innings, getting the win after striking out nine and allowing just two runs. Pettitte already owns a win over the Orioles this season. In a dominating performance, Pettitte pitched seven innings of shutout ball. Overall, Pettitte has owned Baltimore in his career, going 23-6 with a 3.77 ERA in 33 starts.

                            Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 6 (Side Play of the Day)

Orioles): Jeremy Guthrie is only 2-5 on the season but he does have a respectable 3.62 ERA. Guthrie has given up three runs or fewer in seven starts this year but he's suffered from a lack of run support. In Guthrie's four losses, the Orioles have only scored four runs over 26.1 innings. Not surprisingly, the under has been a smart wager with Guthrie on the mound, cashing in seven of his 10 starts.

                            Key Injuries - NONE

                            PROJECTED SCORE: 3

Los Angeles Dodgers at Chicago Cubs [ESPN | 8:05 PM ET]

Dodgers: Derek Lowe has lost two outings in a row and four of his last five overall. In his last five starts, Lowe has given up 24 runs in 28.1 innings of work. Lowe has been horrendous on the road in 2008, going winless and possessing a 6.61 ERA in six appearances away from home. Lowe has faced the Cubs six times in his career but has only factored in the decision twice, going 1-1 with a 3.72 ERA.

                            Key Injuries - NONE

                            PROJECTED SCORE: 3

Cubs (-160, O/U 8): Carlos Zambrano has been toying with hitters this year. The Cubs ace hasn't lost a decision since April 11. In 10 starts, Zambrano has only given up more than two runs three times. He's also helped out Chicago's bullpen by eating up a lot of innings. Big Z has pitched at least seven innings in seven of his 10 starts. Despite Zambrano's dominance this season, his last three starts have all gone OVER the total.

                            Key Injuries - NONE

                            PROJECTED SCORE: 5

Toronto Blue Jays at Oakland Athletics [10:05 PM ET]

Blue Jays: The Blue Jays starting rotation has been so impressive this year, Roy Holliday is no longer the clear-cut ace of the staff. Still, Holiday is one of the AL's top pitchers and despite a 5-5 record he has a strong 3.11 ERA in 2008. Toronto has come out victorious that last three times Holliday has taken the hill, thanks to him giving up just five runs in 18 innings pitched. Even though he's been on top of his game, two of Holliday's last three starts have gone OVER the total.

                            Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 2 (UNDER - Total Play of the Day)

A's (-120, O/U 7): Oakland has won all of Rich Harden's three starts since he came off the DL. Harden has pitched poorly in just one game all season against Texas but allowed a total of four runs in his other four starts combined. Harden has been virtually untouchable at home this year, sporting a 1.59 ERA in 17 innings of work. The Blue Jays give Harden a lot of trouble. In five career starts, he's 0-3 with 5.59 ERA against Toronto.

                            Key Injuries - NONE

                            PROJECTED SCORE: 3
