        Tips and Trends
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Los Angeles Dodgers at Chicago Cubs [ESPN | 7:05 PM ET]

Dodgers: After four straight no-decisions, Hiroki Kuroda is 1-1 in his last two starts. Kuroda has actually pitched pretty well in his last three outings, allowing seven runs in 21 innings. This is Kuroda's sixth start on the road where he hasn't had much success going 1-3, although he does possess a 3.09 ERA away from Dodger Stadium. The UNDER has been a money making proposition with Kuroda on the mound, cashing in seven of his 10 starts this season.

Dodgers are 13-7 in the last 20 meetings at Chicago.
The UNDER is 7-3 in LA's last 10 games following a loss.

        Key Injuries - NONE

        PROJECTED SCORE: 4

Cubs (-110): Sean Gallagher will be making his fourth start of the season on Tuesday after giving up 10 runs in 14.2 innings pitched during his first three. Gallagher won his only start at Wrigley Field this year, giving up just one run in a 7-4 victory over the Pirates. Gallagher has only experienced two innings of work against the Dodgers in his career but they didn't go well, leaving him with a 13.50 ERA and 2.50 WHIP.

Cubs are 20-6 in their last 26 home games.
The UNDER is 20-8-2 in Chicago's last 30 Tuesday games.

        Key Injuries - NONE

        PROJECTED SCORE: 5

Atlanta Braves at Milwaukee Brewers [8:10 PM ET]

Braves (-145, O/U 8.5): Tim Hudson has been a monster for the Braves this year, going 7-3 with a 2.97 ERA and winning four of his last five starts. Hudson has given up two runs or less in six starts this season. The veteran is 2-2 in five starts on the road, although he's pitched well sporting a 3.21 ERA and 0.93 WHIP away from Turner Field. The UNDER has been a smart investment in games with Hudson on the mound, cashing in his last six starts.

Braves are 7-2 in their last 9 games overall.
The UNDER is 8-0 in Atlanta's last 8 Tuesday games.

        Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 4 (UNDER - Total Play of the Day)

Brewers: Dave Bush has only won one game on the season and Milwaukee has lost six of his eight starts overall. Bush has given up at least five runs in five starts this season, including three of his last four. Not surprisingly, the over has cashed the last three times Bush has taken the hill. Pitching at home hasn't been much of an advantage for Bush, as he's gone 1-1 with a 4.67 ERA there.

Brewers are 9-2 in their last 11 Tuesday games.
Brewers are 3-8 in their last 11 games following a win.
The OVER is 6-2-1 in Milwaukee's last 9 games following a win.

        Key Injuries - NONE

        PROJECTED SCORE: 3

Detroit Tigers at Los Angeles Angels [10:05 PM ET]

Tigers: The Tigers ended a three-game losing streak with Jeremy Bonderman on the mound when they recorded a 9-2 victory over Seattle last week. In that game, Bonderman went six strong innings, allowing just two runs. As bad the Tigers starting rotation has been in 2008, Bonderman has actually performed pretty well, allowing three runs or less in six starts. Bonderman has been tough on the road, going 2-1 with 3.04 ERA. Four of the last five games Bonderman has started came in UNDER the total.

Tigers are 1-9 in their last 10 road games.
Tigers are 1-7 in their last 8 games as an underdog.

        Key Injuries - NONE

        PROJECTED SCORE: 3

Angels (-135, O/U 9): Ervin Santana couldn't do anything wrong during the first month of the season but things have changed for him in his last three starts, all Angels losses. After allowing 12 runs in his first seven appearances, Santana has given up 13 runs over his last 17.1 innings pitched. Even with his recent struggles, six of Santana's last seven starts have gone UNDER.

Angels are 6-2 in their last 8 games overall.
The UNDER is 10-1 in LA's last 11 games following a win.
The UNDER is 20-6 in LA's last 26 games overall.

        Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 6 (Side Play of the Day)

          SCOREBOARD

          Tuesday, May 27

Boston at Seattle (10:10 p.m. EDT). Daisuke Matsuzaka (8-0) tries to stay unbeaten when the Red Sox take on the Mariners and struggling Miguel Batista (3-6).

          STARS

          Monday

-- Chase Utley, Phillies, tied the league lead with his 16th homer and drove in six runs as Philadelphia routed Colorado 20-5.

-- Steve Kazmir, Rays, struck out 10 Rangers in seven strong innings in Tampa Bay's 7-3 win over Texas.

-- Ryan Dempster, Cubs, pitched seven strong innings and gave the Chicago bullpen some much needed rest after the Cubs combined to use 11 relievers in consecutive extra-inning losses at Pittsburgh. He allowed one run and seven hits in Chicago's 3-1 victory over Los Angeles.

-- Bartolo Colon, Red Sox, improved to 7-0 in his last eight starts at Safeco Field with a 5-3 win over the Mariners. He has not lost in Seattle since Aug. 24, 2001.

          SAD PASSING

Former major league pitcher Geremi Gonzalez, who won 11 games for the Chicago Cubs in 1997, was killed by a lightning strike in his native Venezuela on Sunday. He was 33. Emergency management official Herman Bracho said Monday that Gonzalez was struck by lightning at a beach. Gonzalez pitched for five major league teams from 1997-06. The right-hander appeared in 131 games with 83 starts, compiling a 30-35 record.

          STRUGGLING

Brandon Webb's 9-0 start was rare. So was his second straight loss. Webb (9-2) gave up a season-high 10 hits in his shortest start since 2006, a 7-3 loss to the Braves. He allowed seven runs - four earned. Since the end of the 2004 season, the only other time Webb failed to finish the fifth inning was when he lasted four innings against San Diego on Oct. 1, 2006.

          VOTE OF CONFIDENCE

If Willie Randolph was worried about losing his job, he never showed it. He walked confidently into a packed news conference Monday, still the New York Mets' manager after a much-anticipated meeting with team ownership that lasted about two hours.

          SAVIOR

Bobby Jenks became the second-fastest reliever to notch 100 career saves, doing so in 187 games with Chicago's 6-3 win in 12 innings over Cleveland. Kazuhiro Sasaki did it in 160 for Seattle in 2000-02. San Diego's Trevor Hoffman is the all-time leader with 533 saves.

          STATS

Scott Elarton, called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, made his first relief appearance in the majors since Sept. 6, 2003, with Colorado. He had started 154 times in 155 outings since 1999. He took the loss for Cleveland in a 6-3 defeat in 12 innings to the White Sox. ... The Angels played their first extra-inning game of the season, a 1-0 victory in 12 innings over Detroit. Los Angeles was the only team in the majors that hadn't played an extra-inning contest this year. It finally happened in the 53rd game, the longest such streak in club history from the start of a season.

          TURNAROUND

The Tampa Bay Rays are just the second team in 105 years to have the best record at Memorial Day a year after they finished with the league's worst mark. They joined the 1903 New York Giants.

          SPEAKING

"Willie's job was never in danger going into this meeting. Willie has my support. He has the support of our ownership. ... There is no limbo period. Willie is the manager.'' - Mets GM Omar Minaya after manager Willie Randolph had an afternoon meeting with owner Fred Wilpon and his son Jeff.

            Tuesday MLB Gameday

Daisuke Matsuzaka will be looking to run his season record to 9-0 on Tuesday night when the Boston Red Sox take on the Seattle Mariners. Here is your MLB Gameday . . .

Florida Marlins at New York Mets, 7:10pm ET
Andrew Miller (4-3, 5.33 ERA) vs. Johan Santana (5-3, 3.36 ERA)

Miller had a rough start to the season, but he's turned in four quality outings in a row to improve his record to 4-3 and lower his ERA to 5.33. The lefthander held the D-Backs scoreless over seven innings last time out, allowing just five hits and fanning nine. Back on April 2 against the Mets, Miller was knocked around for five runs over 4 1-3 innings.

Santana had a modest two-game winning streak snapped by the Braves in his last start, as he gave up three earned runs on 12 hits in seven innings of work and only struck out one batter. The lefthander last faced the Marlins way back on March 31, and he picked up the win after allowing just two earned runs on three hits over a seven-inning outing.

San Francisco Giants at Arizona Diamondbacks, 9:40pm ET
Tim Lincecum (6-1, 2.17 ERA) vs. Dan Haren (5-3, 3.39 ERA)

Lincecum continues to roll for the Giants, having given up three or fewer earned runs in each of his 10 starts so far this season. The righthander hasn't been tagged with a loss since April 29, when he fell to the Rockies. Last time out, against the Rockies again, Lincecum gave up three earned runs on five hits over six innings of work, fanning six.

Haren struck out a season-high eight batters last time out against the Marlins, but he still picked up the loss after giving up four earned runs on eight hits over 6 1-3 innings of work. The righthander has only won once over his past four starts, but his outing against Florida marked the first time he'd given up more than three runs since back on April 23.

Detroit Tigers at Los Angeles Angels, 10:05pm ET
Jeremy Bonderman (3-4, 4.58 ERA) vs. Ervin Santana (6-2, 3.24 ERA)

Bonderman picked up his first win since April 30 last time out, holding the Mariners to two earned runs on eight hits over six innings of work. The righthander had gone 0-2 with a no-decision in his three outings prior to that game, surrendering 12 earned runs over 16 innings pitched. Bonderman has fanned 32 but walked 35 so far on the season.

Santana has now lost two games in a row since beginning the season with a 6-0 record. The righthander gave up four earned runs on nine hits over six innings versus the Blue Jays last time out, striking out seven batters. Against the Tigers back on April 25, Santana earned the win after allowing just three earned runs over 6 1-3 innings pitched.

Boston Red Sox at Seattle Mariners, 10:10pm ET
Daisuke Matsuzaka (8-0, 2.40 ERA) vs. Miguel Batista (3-6, 6.47 ERA)

Matsuzaka wasn't overly sharp versus the Royals last time out (three earned runs on six hits and six walks over 5 2-3 innings), but he still managed to earn the win and run his record to 8-0. The righthander has given up more than three earned runs in an outing just once this year (on April 13 versus the Yankees), and his ERA is now down to 2.40.

Batista has pitched poorly in three of his past four starts, which has boosted his ERA to 6.47 on the season. The righthander was tagged for five runs (four earned) on seven hits over just three innings pitched last time out against the Tigers (with two strikeouts), and he's managed to allow four or more earned runs in six of his 10 starts this season.

Los Angeles Lakers at San Antonio Spurs [TNT | 9 PM ET]

Lakers: The key to Game 4 will be whether or not LA can get forward Lamar Odom back on track. Just as in years past, star Kobe Bryant can not win games as this level on his own. Odom has been an important contributor throughout the playoffs and was limited to just seven points on 2-of-11 shooting in Sunday's Game 3 loss. “I got to the point where I couldn’t make a shot,” Odom said. “But then I got to the free throw line and I wasn’t making free throws. That can’t happen.” Lakers head coach Phil Jackson remains optimistic as long as Odom doesn't get too down on himself. “Once it gets going bad for him, there’s a lot of times he can’t turn his game around in the course of the night,” Jackson said. “So that’s one of the things we keep talking about, finding a way to recapture your ball game even though things haven’t gone well for you early.”

Lakers are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 Tuesday games.
Lakers are 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 games overall.

                    Key Injuries - NONE

                    PROJECTED SCORE: 94

Spurs (-4, O/U 192): San Antonio did exactly what it intended to in Game 3, letting Bryant get his points and holding everybody else in check. That remains the main goal for the Spurs again in Game 4 while they also need to stay hot offensively. “We have to contain them, limit what they do,” San Antonio's Tim Duncan said. “They have the best scorer in the league. He can get off in stretches. We have to be able to contain the rest of their team and understand that defense is what’s going to get us over the hump.” Home has treated the Spurs very well in the playoffs, as they are averaging 103.3 points per game there while going 5-0-1 ATS in their last six at AT&T Center.

Spurs are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 home games.
The UNDER is 8-1 in the last 9 meetings at San Antonio.

                    Key Injuries - NONE

                    PROJECTED SCORE: 98

                      L.A. Lakers at San Antonio (-4 1/2, 192)

Don't count the grizzled San Antonio Spurs out just yet. After two frustrating losses to open their series against the Lakers, San Antonio bounced back with a huge 19-point win in Game 3.

Perimeter defense was a big problem for the Lakers throughout the game. Manu Ginobili, who is playing through a sore ankle and a torn fingernail, led the charge by drilling five of San Antonio's 10 treys to finish with 30 points. Meanwhile, Tim Duncan was a handful inside as he finished with 22 points and 21 rebounds.

Outside of another day at the office (30 points, five assists) from Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles didn't have much of an answer for the Spurs all night long.

"It's a good experience for us to play against the defending champs and have them kick our butts the way they did," Kobe Bryant told reporters. "I think we grew up a lot tonight."

                      Pick: Lakers
